So sad! Popular dancer Kemi Omotoyinbo dies during child birth

Popular dancer, choreographer and part actress Kemi Omotoyinbo has died. The beautiful lady who danced for several popular musicians including Pasuma, KWAM 1 and Shina Peters, died during childbirth in a private hospital in Lagos yesterday October 1st exactly 20 days after her wedding to husband Godwin Eloanyi, which was on September 13th.

According to her friends, Kemi was in and out of labour for several days in a private hospital and when she couldn't give birth the natural way, doctors said she would have to do a C&S. The doctors told her the operation would cost N450k and demanded an initial deposit of N300k before they do it.

According to Kemi's friends, the husband couldn't come up with the money immediately but begged the hospital to carry on with the operation that he would pay the next day (October 1st) but the hospital insisted on the deposit and refused to carry out the operation. Sadly, Kemi passed away last night.

How one of her friends told the story of what happened to Kemi
"Kemi wouldn’t have died if the doctors did pay attention to her. She was in labour for several days and was asked to pay certain amount of money before she could be operated upon. The truth is that Kemi was in labour for over one week. She tried in vain to give birth the normal way but the baby just didn’t come.
Eventually the doctor told her she would have to go through C&S. It was termed emergency C&S. The hospital told her husband that they would have to pay a sum of 450,000 for her to be operated upon. He also said that before anything could be done they would have to make a deposit of 300,000. The husband made several efforts to raise 300,000 but deposited all he had. He begged the doctors to please go ahead with the operation and would pay before the next day. That was on October 1st , the night she died."
"Kemi's husband said he would pay the money the next day but the doctor refused and stated categorically that he would not move an inch else he pays 300,000. It was at that point Kemi decided to forward messages to people she knows so she could get help. She got responses that money would be made available to her the next day. On hearing that the husband went to beg the doctors again, still they refused. No bank was opened and nothing could be done until Thursday October 2nd but unfortunately she gave up the ghost that night. My point is, the doctors knew she had to go through emergency C&S. they could have saved her life and get the money later.  Nigeria is a very bad country I must confess." one of her friends said
Truly sad! May her soul rest in peace...amen.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Well, Nigeria is bad sha BUT she wanted to force herself to give birth the regular way until it became such an emergency;;; those who don't have cash go to govt hospitals so what stopped her from going there? Doctors are placed on call, consultants included or are they on strike in Lagos?;;; even though banks were not opened, ATMS worked for those who wanted to offer money for such an emergency. In the end anyway, the doctors should have treated, at least it is in that their whatever oath to save lives.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Nigerian doctors are fond of this....they will protest and strike because they want to earn like senators...

  67. What's c&s? More proof that Nigeria needs a social safety net system. In the US, hospitals are required to deliver life saving care. The hospital would be sued and face sanctions if it withheld care that could have saved the life of a patient.

  105. Our society value money over human lives. They killed an innocent baby and mother because she could not make good on initial deposit...omg! Why are we so heartless and evil in our ways? Shame on the medical director, doctors and nurses in that hospital.

Meanwhile, AIG Mbu can investigate and probably arrest someone for negligence resulting in the death of two people instead of detaining a journalist for referring to him as controversial.

However, if only government officials entrusted with providing essential health care facilities had delivered maybe the mother and child could have survived.
This is the ripple effect of corruption in our society!

NIGERIA INDEED IS A JUNGLE!!! Material things are placed above human lives.

I hope that hospital is situated in the highbrow of Lagos, if not, I foresee hoodlums going to vandalize the hospital because with the caliber of people you mentioned she danced for, she sure will be very popular among the miscreants and NURTW folks.

Hmmm!!! We must all have a little savings set aside for emergencies such as this. Buying iPhone, S5, highlander, and paying N2m for a 2bed room apartment in lekki annually when we barely have N100, 000 in our account isn't just fair for ourselves, children, and future.

  155. God! What sort of rotten doctor is this one now? Did he forget the oath he took to save lives 1st? At least he should have performed the operation. There is no how the hospital would have allowed them leave without paying their bills. Her death was very avoidable. It shall never be well with this so called doctor for wasting two lives! May her soul rest in peace.

  156. This is really sad, the hospital should be sued, in this age I can't believe stuff like this still happens...while not even go to a public hospital in the first place.

  170. And we all condemn Abubakr Shekau when we are worst them him. In as much as we all hate General hospitals and feel they are worthless, They are the best options. CS is less than 50k, the nurses are a blend or nice and rude but they will never allow a pregnant woman go through a week of labour pains. The doctors should be charged, ijust hope the husband recorded the conversations he had with the doctors.

  175. Linda "Nigeria is a very bad country" that I agree but not as bad as Doctors becoming murder. I dont want to believe hospitals in Nigeria actually prefer money to saving lives. In a country where Doctors protested for the cancellation of police report for gunshot of an armed robbers before the victim could be treated. I dont see a reason why such doctors could not safe a pregnant woman bringing in a new life to the world. I don't want to believe hospitals in Nigeria are that cruel to the level of sacrificing 2 lives (mother and kid) for the money. I will like Linda to get more info on this matter including the hospital name and if it's true then all LIB readers should follow this up and get to the bottom through justice. This is not the Nigeria I was born in; it was much better than what it is now...... Da Sugar

  179. OH GOD!!! Why are humans soooo MEAN??? GOD WHY??? I used to think Medicine was a noble, humanitarian, almost "missionary" profession. What happened to saving a life FIRST!? Why not save this lady, possibly even detain her after delivery, till you get your money in full? Why not? Human beings-or is it Nigerians-why are we soooo wicked??? WHY??? Now what of the (unborn)baby?-dead too? RIP, dear. May you find rest in The Lord...
