Photos: Child labour - Young girl made to wash truck everyday

Child abuse is not only when you hit a child, giving them hard labour is also part of child abuse. And I consider asking a young girl to wash a truck this big every day as hard labour.

According to a LIB reader, one of her neighbours makes a young girl who lives with them who she says is between 12-15 years, to wash their truck either at night or in the morning...every single day. She says passersby only watch and complain but nobody has done anything about it. They believe her life is at risk because she tries to manage her space as other vehicles pass. This is happening at Kings Avenue, Ben Mill Road, Ogodu Berger, in case the authorities want to look into it.

Or are there people who think this is OK? See more photos after the cut...

  11. Linda I don't think it's right for u to put that address up there. And the person who sent this in is being silly. I'm not in support of making a child do this, but u shud have tried to correct the people making her do so, and if they are adamant only then can u go this extreme. Saying people only pass and complain within them doesn't cut it

    2. Identify yourself let's be sure you're not the culprit here, or you're not into the same game with your helps. Because, if you're not, you should feel bad and strive to expose this steel blooded couple who find it enjoyable to watch the fruit of another person's womb suffer this way while (I believe) their kids are at the oak dinning table chewing at delicacies for breakfast, prepared by the same poor kid, who's likely to enjoy only the aroma. Remember the world doesn't belong to one person alone. Tables turn. Linda has done nothing wrong in going straight to expose them, because they're likely to even attack her and call her names on the street "for not minding her business"

  33. 100% sure the owner of the house shown in the pictures is NOT actually the owner of the truck. Somebody just parked his/her truck in the available place on the street. Blogger should render apology to whoever owns the house because the pictures made it look like the owner of the house owns the truck in question and tarnished his image as child abuser.

Have you asked the girl if she would prefer washing that truck every morning and eating 'Indomie' or going back to her village and carrying firewood every morning...which in your definition is also 'child-abuse'

The problem with Nigerians that argue on matters like without Context! If this is Child Labour to you...then, I think 90% of Nigerian Children are under Child Labour...and don't for once think i support it...it just the way life is in Third World Nations...we have to learn to deal with it

Let me give you a run down of activities and please, let me know if it is Child Labour
    1) Carrying 10 KGS of Firewood every morning
    2) Waking Up 4am every morning to go to the Stream and fry Garri before going to School
    3) Hawking tomatoes in residential areas...
    4) Hawking 'stuffs' in Traffic Jam (known as Go Slow)...
    5) Massaging you madam's legs every morning

  80. it is not ok. child labor has been with black people for many years and history teaches that this was the reason Slave trade thrived hugely in our society. 100. Not too sure if I would agree that this is child abuse, we don't know the livign arrangements of the child, are her needs taken care of? Also if this is child abuse, then during my parents age and even know children that have to work on the farm for hours to help their parents is also child abuse. My father had to do just that until her finished high school. Please note, though he worked on a farm, he STILL attended school and when he was done he was free to pursue higher education.

So before we label this situation child abuse more things need to be known.

Please focus on what will help the country, someone married a 7 years old, what do u have to say?

All those people sweeping 3rd mainland bridge, are they ment to be there? Can't the government buy machines to do that?

U think age counts? Pls go to obalende In lagos n see under age girl selling their body for six to make a living,

If washing that truck will keep her off the stress, n she meets up with school n play with friends, then it's her duty.

Pls blame the government. And make sure u don't buy news papers, gala or anything from
The stress. wait for it to come to ur door step or go to the mall n get them, until then lev that family alone, we re worst in Nigeria n let's keep praying things changes for Good.
