UNIPORT students also protest hike in School fees

University of Port Harcourt students yesterday took to the streets to protest the recent hike in their school fees. The students engaged the police but there was no violence and no one was injured. The students vowed to continue protesting everyday until something is done about the fees. See more pics after the cut...

  33. That ajienka is just MAD. Ever since he became our VC every year our school fees is increased. To think uniben students pay less than 20k. Uniport students are not even allowed to stay in the hostel, we have to go outside school paying rents of over 160k for house rent. We still transport our selves into school everymorning to learn in classrooms that lack basic amenities. No public address systems, licking roofs, no teaching materials etc. We students still make provisions for all these and pay class dues. Even the year 1 students that stay in the school hostels complain of zero maintenance, no renovations and our school fees are always on the increase. Even light is an issue. Despite all these, even the security is a BIG ZERO. Students are constantly been robbed and rapped and nothing is been done about it. All what they care about is to drain us till There's nothing left in us. How can Nigeria go forward with all this wickedness.

  35. Its time you all realize that the cost of education has gone up all over the world; they are increasing it to 70k some of the students use phones and gadgets that are more expensive than that and would join the ptotest. The way you have been getting money to buy those expensive phones and gadgets use it to pay your school fees if you value your education. The so called developed countries we look up to, a lot of people are still paying for their university education 10 years 20 years after graduation. If u know the value of what you have ; you would accept it. No need to ptotest over simple things; three quarter of them that are protesting wont go to class and would still sort Lecturers at the end.

  44. In abroad, things are done with genuine reasons and purpose. Increase in school fees abroad means high education standard and conducive learning atmosphere and more importantly it is done in consultation with all those involved in the education sector. But here in Nigeria the reverse is the case...they are all educated tyrants......they do things with no reasons and purpose...school fees increment means impoverished standard of education...no light, electricity, hostels, basic learning material, security and to crown it all no hope job after graduation from school. As a former uniport student I do not understand the sole mission of Ajienka in Uniport...his policies are anti-students...God bless Unique Uniport

  45. Hike in price in all APC state na so we go dei dey. Hike price does it change quality of education. Hike in price does it affect increase in standard of graduants. There should be a balance to show the students why U̶̲̥̅̊ want to increase the fee.

  49. Hmmm everything is so complicated, the mistakes started when New (year1) students sch fee, acceptance fee and accommodation fee were increased no old student protest over it, all of them went asleep even the so called SUG Executives. Now it has bounce back to them (old student), please u pple should try and pay this time around, for the sake of academic programme
because it is affecting year 1 students. Moreso,Uniport Academic and Non Academic Staff should please plead on behalf of we students.
