Pres. Jonathan appoints Bode George’s wife, Roli, as new NDLEA boss

President Jonathan has appointed Mrs. Roli Bode-George as the new Director-General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The appointment was announced this evening by Presidential Spokesperson, Reuben Abati.

Mrs Bode-George takes over from Mr Olufemi Ajayi, who is now the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF). The appointment is with immediate effect.

Bode George was arrested and jailed for fraud and abuse of office when he served as chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority, but his conviction was later upturned by the Supreme Court.

  52. .. It's for real. Wake up guys and smell the coffee. The ship is capsizing under Captain Jona. Of all the 40 million adult Nigerians its an ex convict's wife that's most qualified. And some people still think Captain Jona is being insulted unfairly........... Technically, Bode George is DG of NDLEA. That's the type of decisions our president takes. We sit around and complain that Keshi picked Rahmon Azeez, Yobo and Babatunde somebody for World Cup but we never argue that much about wrong choices in the president's team. Even if somebody drinks to stupor all the time, there must be a brief moment of sobering or sanity when you consider the effect of some of your decisions on the sensibilities of the people. When the president said he didn't give a damn, I thought it was just limited to a particular incident. I was wrong. He surely doesn't give a damn about anything...... When a "head" has lost his headship, he plays "I don't give a damn". The scenario here is that Jona doesn't understand it at all. That has been my own concern since 2010. Pardon me to say here again that this man is a mistake. He has always been in position by circumstance, not by merit. What do you expect of a "lecturer" that cannot educate his own home. We haven't seen anything yet. Let's watch out for the reason charges were dropped against Abacha's son. These decisions only show panic and desperation. Which way Nigeria? ‎

  117. @Tony Eze and others :NDLEA has a Chairman & a DG who also doubles as secretary to the Board. Both positions are critical;these persons represent their Agency within Nigeria on various assignments and also externally to the world. Further, there both have endless opportunities to influence major policy decisions of their boss as well as the operational direction of the Agency. Therefore selection of person to such visible & sensitive agencies should be done with a careful examination of candidates for fit and politics should not be the main or sole consideration.
