Coup d’ etat rumours unfounded – CDS

The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, has refuted rumors of a possible coup d' etat by the military, stating that the rumour was unfounded.

ACM Badeh stated this on Tuesday June 18th while receiving the Director General of the National Orientation Agency , Dr Mike Omeiri in his office. He said the Military would always work to protect the democracy of Nigeria and not destroy it.
"Rumours in some quarters of a possible coup d’état in the country are unfounded. Why should anyone be thinking in the negative fashion? Tell them we will not do it. Those spreading rumours of coups must be living elsewhere and not in Nigeria. The Armed Forces are defenders of democracy. We are an arm of democracy, so how can an arm of democracy work against the democracy that we are part of?” he said

  19. A coup even a military one is not necessarily or even always a bad thing. Thailand, for example has in the past benefited from a military coup. Even the coup of 1960s Nigeria in hindsight was not such a bad idea based of the principles behind it.

  26. A coup would have been a welcome development. At least the military won't take this whole Boko Haram shit likely.

  27. Who is he fooling? The military has never and will never be a protector of democracy... Rather the Military is a protector of the State and if the military feels The State {even if its democracy/President (GEJ) is a threat to its very existence}. So Oga, please reassure us that the military isn't planning a coup.
By the way, since when did the military become an arm of democracy????
or since when did the 'military' ever have anything to do with the concept of democracy?
People, the military is an agent of the state charged with the responsibility of protecting it at all cost... This guy is confused

  28. Who does he think he is fooling? Since when did the military become an arm of democracy?
When did the military become 'defenders of democracy'?
The military is ultimately the Defender of the State. So it is in their duty to carry out a coup against any government (even a democratic or dictatorial or whatever type of govt.). This (coup), however, can only be done on the grounds of the incompetence of the incumbent govt. in tackling issues that threatens the state like Corruption, Insecurity/terrorism (as in the North-Eastern Nigeria), etc...
Oga, tell us the truth abeg and you don't want to tell us the truth (of which i don't expect him to go around announcing the coup). At least stop calling us complete idiots by telling us that the military is an arm of democracy.
people the military is an agent of the state charged with the responsibility of defending its integrity at all cost(even if it means a coup).

  35. Badeh snubs Gusau and calls Obanikoro an idiot.
Army officers are killed by Boko Haram and nothing is being done to give them Honorable Burials.
There are loud rumblings that the Army is ill equipped to fight Boko Haram.
Chibok girls are still missing, one month after.
Politicians are harrasing themselves over elections.
Oil theft has become so rampant that you must be an idiot not to do it.
DAM has been proposed for OPEC Secretary General.
Many probes and enquiries have led to nothing.
Intelligence reports are saying a transistional government to be headed by Mark is in the works.
Each and every time the Military has come out to deny a Coup, there has been a Coup. FACT.
Babangida is silent. Obasanjo has withdrawn from the PDP. Gowon, Abdulsalami are all over preaching peace. WHO IS THE MUGU?
    Buhari has gone noticably quiet.
My friends, expect martial music soon. Dont be deluded.
The world powers have realised that to protect Nigeria, there has to be a military intervention otherwise, Rwanda would be childs play. The cost to them would be much more than the oil and who controls it. The US already has shale oil. So they dont need any conflict that they would need to provide aid at the expense of lives.
Possible dates? Shortly after the outcome of the coming elections and before the next general elections.
Chai. Chai. Chai. Nigeria. We have entered one chance again o. The military would do at least four years, and the foreign powers would support them once they give a terminal date for another transistion. By the way, Egypt is an example. They would get away with it. Infact, the people shouting Democracy would be the first to congratulate them. Chai. Nigeria. Chai.

  36. The ongoing terrorist insurgency in nigeria is led by Northern Nigerians and their foreign collaborators. The puppet masters are HAUSA / FULANI plutocrats and oligarchy (Boko Haram, SATANIC, BLOOD SUCKERS, PARASITES, thieves, promiscuous, mafia criminals, LEECHES, treacherous, kidnappers, murderers and warmongers). One of their front organisations is sharia law sponsoring Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF). It's a well known fact that Boko Haram killers are the military wing of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF). Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (Emir of Boko Haram & the WRONG Emir of Kano), Muhammadu Bakindo Aliu Musdafa (stupid, condescending & secession threatening Lamido of Adamawa), IBB, Atiku, Buhari, El Dwarf Rufai, are part of their prominent members. They also have members in high ranking positions in the Nigerian military, especially in the Nigerian army. Northerners dominate the highest ranking and most lucrative positions in the Nigeria Army (who are often corrupt, routinely bribed by Boko Haram / ACF and even colluded with HAUSA / FULANI plutocrats and oligarchy to coordinate Boko Haram attacks).

For the sake of "keeping Nigeria together," the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh is NOT telling the truth. Alex Badeh is lying on behalf of the Nigerian President, the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Federal Government of Nigeria. He's doing what he was instructed to do: lie and deceive the public.

There was an attempted coup d’état. It was by the terror-sponsoring king-pins of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and it's members. FACT. Individuals were arrested and are currently being detained by the Federal Government of Nigeria for attempting to overthrow the civilian led administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Arewa Consultative Forum (members, sponsors and sympathizers of Boko Haram) and it's members are parasites and must be disbanded and held accountable for the havoc it wrecked on Nigeria and Nigerians. Arewa Consultative Forum (sponsors of terrorism in Nigeria) and it's members must do the honorable thing, free Nigeria from their "born to rule" motivated treachery and murderous insurrection and join their hopeless ancestors and stupid people in Chad, Mali, Cameroon, Niger, Sudan, sahara desert and HELL FIRE.

If President Goodluck Jonathan made a televised live broadcast right now and tell the Nigerian people and the international community the truth about what those HAUSA / FULANI leaders and their politicians have been doing to Nigeria and Nigerians with Boko Haram and within the Nigerian Army, Nigeria will descend into civil war and disintegrate within 72 hours.

  38. A coup is the best thing that can happen to Nigeria right now. Our so-called Democracy is a corrupt system that is incapable of producing good leaders. U cannot win any elected position without pledging loyalty to some corrupt group or the other. Even our citizens r too hungry/ uneducated to make rational voting decisions. We need to reset the system and eliminate bad forces.

  41. The only agenda of hausas is to rule by all means.
although me as a person am too ashame to call Jonah my president
but any coup that will make an Hausa man to rule Nigeria now will be bloodily resisted.Especially now that we know say soldiers are not supermen the way we thought before the different is uniform nothing more.
Boko harram has open our eyes
Hausas will not rule us again either in uniform or democracy.
Jonathan too will not rule us .if pdp must give us Niiger delta let them look for real man from that region they can even give us Asari Dokubo the ex Armed Robber or militant
    nonsence.we,are waiting.
    nan by,force to stay together.

  42. Who interviewed this man? The person is a fool. If he is planning coup will he say he is? You guys are getting me fraustrated rather than annoyed with your level of stupidity. Why will anybody know if coup is been planned? Is it some birthdayparty? Please ifsome people are planing coup you and I will not know until they make announcement. But the rumor is a wake up callfor the President who will be the first victim if such should happen. A word is enough for the wise.
