Malam Aminu Sa’ad, the presiding judge, handed down the sentence after the women pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of criminal force and assault, use of abusive language and public nuisance.
Sa’ad ruled that on the first count of criminal force and assault, the convicts shall serve a jail term of one month each without an option of fine. Continue...
He, however, gave them an option of N20,000 fine each for the other two counts charge including the use of abusive language and public nuisance, and declared the terms would run consecutively.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Momoh Ibrahim, had told the court that on June 14, 2014, the convicts were arrested for using insulting language on the person of a police officer, one Cpl. Abraham Omageni of Deidei police station.
Ibrahim said the convicts also slapped Omageni.
The prosecutor told the court that their offences contravened the provisions of the Penal Code.

ReplyDeleteThe prosecution (persecution) of Binta Mamman and Safiya Aliyu is nothing but double standards. Set them free immediately. Those police got slapped because they most likely deserved to be slapped. Ordinary citizens get stiff jail terms while those thieving plutocrats and oligarchs get away with all sorts. If that was Mohhamad Abacha that slapped those same boy scouts, he'd have no case to answer and the case won't even make it court, thanks to the CORRUPT Nigerian (Bribe Taking) Force and the CORRUPT Nigerian (Bribe Taking) Judiciary.
If anyone should be jailed right now, it should be Goodluck Jonathan, all PDP politicians, all APC politicians, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, El Rufai, Buhari and Mohhamad Abacha.
