NIS test tragedy: FG offers victims families automatic employment

President Jonathan this morning ordered three employment slots be left open for the families of those who died during the Saturday recruitment exercise conducted by the Nigerian Immigration Service.

The president also directed that immediate employment be offered to injured victims who are still receiving treatment in various hospitals across the nation.

Disclosing this after the Federal Executive Council meeting that held this morning, Minister of Information Labaran Maku said President Jonathan directed that one of the three beneficiaries must be female. Today's FEC meeting was devoted to the poorly conducted NIS recruitment exercise. Continue...
The President also ordered that the last ill-fated exercise be cancelled and set up a new panel which would conduct a fresh screening test for applicants. The Panel is to be headed by the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Deaconess Joan Ayo and would have as members, a rep from the Inspector General of Police as well as the Heads of Immigration, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp, Nigerian Prison Service, State Security Service and the Federal Road Safety Commission.
The House of Reps has also summoned the Interior Minister and the DG of NIS to appear before it to explain the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident at recruitment exercise on Saturday.

      Are you for real?
Those people getting employment as a compensation are they qualified?
Is that how people are employed? No wonder we have no professionalism at work!
They can be given financial compensation...that's what should be done.
Why are they not investigating the people behind this...why should they charge applicants 1000k for job application? NOBODY PAYS TO APPLY FOR A JOB ESPECIALLY GOVERNMENT JOB.

and transportation money esp for those in
adamawa, borno and yobe who had to travel to
other states for the exercise? Jonathan may
have good intentions but the poor youths
always bear the brunt of his action.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Great job my dear President. Even though that won't bring the dead, it is very thoughtful of you.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The truth is Nigeria, we think backwards.
In a modern country, first thing first the DG of NIS should have resigned, but no he still has guts to pass the blame. What were the health and safety precautions he had in place? is that a normal way to conduct exams? where candidates were busy spying??? that aside.
We have seen incidents like this happen before, people die and they offer the family positions. to some extent its good but overall its poor. Because it would happen again as the root cause of incidents like this are not been examined and scrutinized.
Jobs are been offered to family members, good! but the question is would they be tested to ensure they are capable? what if the person that died was the only educated person in the family (Assuming)?
simple decision like this shows why the public sector would always be in decline and people would continually see it as a money making venture.
I just feel decisions like this from the President himself are not good enough.
God bless the dead. God bless Nigeria

  86. That is a silly decision...trying to score cheap political points. How can you give slots to people u have not tested if they qualify to get the job? and tomorrow we will say officials in Immigration are not good enuff to occupy positions e.g "OGA AT THE TOP"that is why Nigeria is where we are today, this is silly and sentimental, you don't get emotional with such things. You could recruit Terrorists or Criminals into the Immigrations. It is wrong to compromise process...Rubbish!!!

I think the families should be contacted for the way forward and see the best way they can relief them a bit. nothing can compensate for the loss though but a good decision is better than none.

  97. I find more reasons to dislike this president daily!! So all the spilled blood is for nothing! So much efforts people put into dis just for it to b cancelled!! People traveled, were under the sun for hours, starved, spent our hard earned money, barely cud breathe etc The fact the rest of us survived didn't mean we had d fun of our lives to go for another! + organizing another exam doesn't guarantee it to be free and fair also! Its just shifting who has the "runs" to another hand! Is it not the same civil service where we applied last year and have not heard a single word from! By JR

  101. I am sorry to say, i think an average Nigerian is mentally weak. These comments are sick, why would he be called a good man because he is dashing out jobs to injured victims regardless of their test grade. It is sad they are injured, give them free medical treatment and sack the people involved so it wont happen again and it will be a lesson. we like patching things and raising sentiments. Pay compensation to teh families of those that died. Its not so difficult to do the right thing.

  107. I think the first thing should be done first. What happened to the minister and the boss of Immigration? I thought they should have sacked before this. For how long will this continue...someone has to die before his siblings will get a job. God forbid. What happened to the recommendation of the committte set up when this nonsense happened the other time. May God save us in thius country. I applaud GEJ for at least giving a little succor to those families BUT THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION TO JOBLESSNESS IN THIS COUNTRY. Thanks.

  110. Why are some people reasoning like fools !!! The state of poverty in the country is to be blamed tho ....u offer automatic employment for d deceased family?? Nt knowing if they are qualified, so what's the essence of the test ...why do we enjoy suffering ourselves , this exercise could be better after necesary requirement have been met...now people are to come from different parts of the country to write the test again not considering what they went through previously.....advice to you brothers and sister , wake up ur spirit and minds...if you don't get a job, CREATE 1 yourself ....always know it is possible don't register yourself with the bad history of Nigeria ....make a change in yourself first and stop complaining about the state of d economy....if everyone makes a way for himself , I believe no one would have problems , be it fuel @144 or 200 you would definately afford it comfortably co you have what it takes.....its in u

  118. The same thing that happened to those dangote phd drivers who were sacked is what will happen to those who get those 3 slots in each family. And the excuse given would be that they were not qualified. Except the jobs are not the same as the ones that were advertised. It's all politics. Any intelligent person know's the game GeJ is playing. But it's a cheap and dum game just like him!

  120. Kudos to everyone who commented on this pathetic issue, am not a regular commenter on this blog but i have to do these today,i just need to make some few points and am out.
    1. 60% of the applicants are actually working class hence they were there for two major reasons; Job security or in-satisfaction cause they are majorly private firm workers. If you doubt it, i have a proof cause 1 of the deceased at the Abuja center works in a bank and confirmed these before he passed out.
    2. It is an established fact that the exam was woefully conducted, but you will agree with me that Nigerians has never been patient, "wait for your turn" is never in Nigerians dictionary, everybody wants to get it done fast and leave @ the same time. Hence the rushing and stampede.
    3. Nigerian youths and everybody needs to wake up and realize that Government cannot provide for everybody. if you doubt me i have a proof most household name today did not wait for Government to provide Job for them. Linda Ikeji, House of Tara, Ben Murray Bruce and a host of others are true example of these.
A Popular comedian/activist though late ( Gbenga Adeboye) once describe NIGERIANS in the best way ever that "we are like a widow, if taken care of she will say my husband was never these caring, to hell with him in heaven and if she is badly treated she will scream my husband never treated me these ill how i wish i can bring him back." meaning no Government Administration can satisfy Nigerian there must be complains. its high time we started saying good things about these country, if you give birth to a child or start a business and already have a negative mind set or speak ill about it daily, it can never bring forth positive result. i don't think Americans or other developed countries curse their President the way Nigerians do and its so pathetic.
There is a saying that we have 3 categories of people in the world; The Whites, The Blacks, and The Nigerians. We are so different with everything we do! as if many of us can stand to abuse Mr President in person, if you are given 5min to speak with him (Mr President) what will be your wish? I believe the best of this country is yet to come and it will start when we learn to be realistic and face issues with out a biased mind and stop blaming every issue of the country on the Govt, we also need to contribute our quota.
I pray God give the deceased family fortitude to bear the loss,RIP to the deceased and a quick recovery to the injured, may God heal our land. God Bless Nigeria!

    1. You think every1 has the opportunities that you have? Okay since you are so financially buoyant , I guess you should provide jobs for those unemployed youths now. Or do you want them to steal, commit fraud or prostitution to get funds? Mcheeew!! Wicked, self centred somebody!!!

  121. The problem we nigerians have is that we are already drentched in negative criticism of the government so much that we can not even differentiate between compensations and 2015. Does your fresh degree from the university without any work experience qualify you for the job? You get experienced and qualified by 'hands-on'. An SSCE holder can do what a Master degree holder can do if trained... Thank you so much Mr President but please ensure the culprits are brought to book. God bless Nigeria! Adewalms says so!

  122. People will be on LIB commenting rubbish. I don't know about d koran, but I know d bible says we should pray 4 our leaders. How many of us calling Jonathan "stupid & clueless" has ever taken out time to pray 4 him? If we pray 4 Nigerian leaders d same way we curse them, pls tell me why our country won't grow. Truth be told, most of us will do worse if we're given d same opportunity. Jonathan has done what he feels he can do @d moment & let's not concentrate on what he didn't do. House of Reps has summoned d NIS boss & co, why not wait to hear d end & we're already cursing & shouting "sack him". Yes d 3 employment slots can't be compared to human life, same as sacking d NIS boss. How will they get d details of everyone to refund d N1000? It won't be that easy, it might even lead to another stampede. Pls let's try to stop raining curses on our leaders, there's power in d tongue. I know Nigeria will be good one day & my only prayer is 4 God to keep me alive to see that day & I know He will do it. God Bless Nigeria.

  123. Those condemning this humane gesture are dumb fools.what if no compensation at all was giving ? Are u going to flog Jonah.those asking if the beneficiaries are quallified don't know jack.In Nis there are even vacancies for attempted waec/sssce.so it's not abt rushing to write rubbish when most of u don't understand d issues at stake.
Our president has consistently proven to be a humane & listening president.but some of u will still come here & write bull crap on things u know nothing abt.
For Nigeria to be great it's gonna be a collective affort of all.not sit down & do nothing but criticize every & anything.

  128. This must be wisdom from above on our leader. Painful as their death is, this act of care should offer some comfort no matter how little to all of us as a grieving nation, especially the families concerned. I pray for more wisdom on our leaders and may this horror never occur again in Jesus Name.

  129. MEDICINE AFTER DEATH! SO THERE ARE JOBS BUT THE INGRATES JUST LOVE SITTING ON THEM SO INNOCENT PEOPLE SUFFER FOR NO REASON. NONSENSE!

    ReplyDelete
  130. Oh lordy, not even sure what to say aside from the fact that this is pure and total nonsense. Compensating families is the least Jonathan can do but the President just decided to insult millions of hardworking and educated Nigerian youth by offering jobs to people whose competencies have not been tested. This is nepotism at its extreme!!! Corruption at work, in broad day light!!! In addition, the president offers no concrete solutions for resolving the problems faced on Saturday nor does he seek to address the huge issue of youth unemployment. In his mind, give people money or jobs and expect Nigerians to keep quiet. But Nigerians are far from stupid, they never were. It's about time we fought to put truly educated and rational leaders who put Nigeria first in power. Jonathan and his crew are a bunch of illiterate & unimaginative thieves. A total disgrace to the black race.

  132. The president of the federal republic has just declared a promo on Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS)job opportunities. The promo goes thus:
-Lose one member of your family and get 3 slots free(3 job opportunities in NIS).
-Lose an eye and get an immediate employment.
-Lose one leg and get an immediate employment.
-Lose one hand and get an immediate employment.
-Provide one dead person in your family to get 3 slots free.
-Pay N1000 as a job seeker who has no income, come for a job screening exercise, make sure you lose at least one part of your body to get immediate employment. Better still, die in the process and secure 3 job slots for your family.
This is the kind of country we live in.
