Comedian Basketmouth apologizes after rape joke enrages people

The popular comedian broadcast a joke highlighting the difference between a white girl and an African girl and included rape in his list (above) on his Facebook page which enraged a lot of people ...and they came after him.

Basketmouth has since taken down the post and apologized to his fans on his Facebook page. His apology after the cut...

    1. My dear, I personally see this joke through the eye of the joker which is intended to leave a message. I wonder why it generated so much heat this time around while some blasphemous jokes receive the credit of being funny. I admire Bright for being civil to apologise. But with all due respect, am dissappointed at people's reaction. Here's my take.

    2. Esther has obviously been raped before otherwise she wont take it so personal. Dis is a joke and does not in anyway encourage rape infact it's a warning to materialistic girls. Why wud u receive all those gifts from a man without using ur tongue to count ur teeth, is he ur papa.

  2. RAPE is clearly not funny. Even as a man, I can imagine the pain and trauma of it all and I wish it for no body.

That said, if Comedians were to make apologies for every single joke and issues they trivialize, they would totally be out of business. Totally!

  5. Most of the jokes from Nigerian comedians towards girls have a common theme and I find them all unfunny if not offensive.

This "joke" in particular is both sexist and racist.

Nigerians, stop going to their shows if they won't change their misogynistic material.

  30. Nigerian men are the problem. LEts STOP spending unnecessary money on this women as a pre-condition to sleep with them, whether demanded or not.

American girls respond to game, swag and if they like you. Nigerian girls respond primarily to money.

We need to buck this evil trend. Imagine a 300 level Babcock girl telling me that I need to drop 50k if i want to sleep with her.

Who knows whether she has an STD or not?

We are the ones spoiling these girls!!!

From my own understanding he never encouraged rape, your are the one over blouting it. The function of that rape there is for emphasis. So don't confuse the message. God bless you.

  60. I'm glad he was called out on that. I hear too many Nigerian men use the term "sleep with" or "have sex" when they are talking about rape. Its important they understand the gravity of such an act. You do not joke about rape or make excuses for it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. But if we all just looked the other way , (especially since no one was in danger of being raped),I would not have had to come to give a lecture.

  100. The joke is a highlight of what is happening in our society more especially Nigerian girls if you don't like a guy discipline yourself not to like his money and anything he is coming with, tell him no from the start... Stop acting too smart. Basket mouth would have looked for a better way to send this messenger across than ending a beautiful piece of our everyday societal problem with rape. Rape is bad to encourage it in anyway is inhumane I know Basket Mouth is not encouraging rape but this tells us how sensitive how society has become. be careful about what you say.

  108. Some pple you over flog issue biko. This was only a joke which pple are just meant to laff at. Some of these comedians crack worse jokes when you go to their shows. I think he was just trying to create the impression that an average nigerian is very demanding yet she won't give in to sex easily.Besides any woman that follows a man home after all these outings and money spendings obviously has made up her mind to expect anything from the guy. Its a 50/50 chance that she comes out untouched though.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I will never support rape. Basketmouth has a point against women, though as a comedian, he was frivolous about it. The emotional, physical & psychological effects of rape against women is highly traumatic. But Nigerian women need to have a rethink; why should a woman date more than one man, after ripping them off, decide to abandon all of them only for her to run away with another? I do not believe that Basketmouth supports rape, but Nigerian women definitely needs a reorientation concerning what relationship is all about.

  163. They should free basketmouth.. That joke is even recycled and he has apologized.

Rape is a serious problem and the way the joke is a show of where we are as a people. Poverty in this country has turned a process that should be used to know each other better, to a poker game between someone thinking he can buy a woman's body and someone else who feels she can use her charm to feed herself. And this is just because of the poverty stricken society we are in.

The poverty which continues to spread due to the actions and inactions of politicians and so called political activists.

Funny how they are quick to use Basketmouth's mistake to score cheap popularity points amongst the concerned and affected people who all know that the joke is inappropriate.

Well its a world of hypocrites out there and those who love the praise of men are the worst of them

  164. Whosoever this joke doesn't go down well with should go and hug transformer joor. For God's sake, since when did it become a crime for a comedian to crack a joke? They even crack worse jokes than this on stage and we all laugh and clap to it in encouragement. so what is so bad about using the word "RAPE" in a harmless joke. He even went as far as apologizing publicly, yet some persons still act like he has committed the worst sin on earth. Haters should go hug transformer joor. Rubbish!!!! bASKET MOUTH RIDE ON DEAR, YOUR FANS STILL HAVE 100% LOVE FOR YOU AND I'M NUMBER ONE

  165. IF U LIKE E GOOD. IF U NO LIKE U HANG. IF U HANG, U GO DIE, AND U GO DIE FOR NOTHING. OBY EZEKWESILI FEEL FREE TO BUY A ROPE FOR UR NECK COS IT SEEMS LIKE HAVARD DID NOT TEACH YOU THE MEANING OF THE WORD JOKE. YOU EMBEZZLER OF PUBLIC FUNDS. YEP THAT'S RIGHT.

  166. Some jokes are just plainly distasteful. Indeed, the kind of 'jokes' we 'enjoy' is merely indicative of the depths we have sunk to as a people. How can a normal society see any humour in something as unfortunate as rape? Trivializing such violence is simply normalizing depravity!

    ReplyDelete
  167. nigerians are dramatic i swear! i have seen this joke before so why is it now a case? we like chasing shadows and leaving d real objects, see rapists and politicians marrying 14 yr old , see half of our girls turmning into high, mid or low class prostitutes and someone is seriously making a case that a comedian said something... for Gods sake he is a comedian and shouldnt be taken seriously

    ReplyDelete
  168. Please people should let basket mouth be. I'm a woman and I understood the joke. It's funny. It's a joke and people should stop taking things personal. But come to think, when a lady keeps eating a guys money and he had attempted to have sex with the lady twice and failed. Yet she still went on to be eating his money selfishly, what else should she expect???,.... It's Rape. Such information is even educating to those that are fond of "chopping men's money". Lots of people have preached on how ladies should live a decent life and be careful whom they relate with but they don't listen. They want to eat their cake and have it at the same time. Please, their is nothing wrong with the joke. He never intended to promote rape. He only gave instances were rape could result from.... So to the ladies that are fond of using guy's heads and making them look like fools... My message is that they stop, respect yourselves and others

  169. *hiss! The world has lost its sense of humor! This joke is nothing but colorful! We are just obsessed with not facing the obvious! The fact that Nigerian women have turned dating to a market! He didn't say 'go and rape', he just simply made a valid point and a simple joke. Please y'all need to go America and see jokes. The joke is not anti-semetic, it's just a simple joke! I have seen a billion jokes targeting the Igbo community, why hasn't anyone spoken up? Abi na when person point out the obvious una go stand attention? Make una tell girls to sabi something. Daz all!!

  170. wait o, nigerians can just like to take a hit on any celeb or so at a slightest opening.....most if not all basket mouth jokes on girls is just emphasizing d way naija babes bill guys all for dating sakes...dis particular one, d rape is just a saccarsm to the frustrated guy who had spent so much...abeg abeg let some peeps just goan sleep
