Oshiomhole said that he now regretted the comments which had become the subject of discourse in the social media. The Governor said that he made the comments in anger.
The governor’s apology was made when the leadership of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), paid him a courtesy visit in Benin. Continue...
He noted that though the challenge of modern times had bestowed on the shoulders of some women and single mothers the status of bread winners of their homes, such should not be used as an accuse to flout the laws.
The Governor urged the Muslim women leaders to use their offices to propagate the essence of healthy living among children and women in the nation and the need to maintain proper sanitary conditions in their neighbourhoods.
Oshiomhole lamented that the challenge of widowhood had also exposed children to different temptations, adding that there was the need for society to be careful, to avoid unwittingly creating more problems for the nation.
He noted that money was not the best thing that guaranteed ones happiness, “but honesty and selfless service.
The Governor added that if Muslims and Christians were adequately committed to their religious doctrines, the world would be a better place.
He urged the women to propagate the message of Islam through the nooks and crannies of the nation, and to also inculcate the values of honesty in their followers.
Oshiomhole, however, assured the association of government’s support in ensuring that its present leadership made remarkable progress and also consolidated on the successes of their predecessors.
Earlier, the FOMWAN National President, Hajia Amina Omoti, urged the state government to look into the issue of the teaching of Islamic Religious Studies in public schools in the state.
Omoti also solicited for government’s moral and financial support for the effective running of the association.

ReplyDeleteMedicine after death.that is so unacceptable to our former labour leader.made the poor widow cry.u betta use your power to assist her o.
ReplyDeleteWell done Adams....
ReplyDeleteI can imagine how infuriated he must have been when the said event occured- he lost every sense- anger is short madness.
DeleteI hazard that, not only will he reinstate the woman of all he took from her, but he's also under some 'unspoken' obligation to do good by her.
And I trust he will.
Infact, I know he will.
Unlike most people, I truly think this man is a good leader and. Anyday, my vote's for him.
Do the right thing sir and quiten your adversaries!
How can a man speak from both sides?
ReplyDeleteThough his statement was wrong,at least he has shown remorse.Better!
ReplyDeleteAm loving this country, now our leaders are mindful of their actions and utterances, now there actions are called to question and the wise ones are quick to show remorse for their actions instead of resorting to twitter to support their faults.
ReplyDeleteI see light at the end of the tunnel, thank God this light won't be coming from PHCN coz it has been privatized.
~BONARIO~says so via NOKIA3310
STFU !!! Dry ass
DeleteDats true no twitter justification of acton.....
DeleteOk. No one is above mistake. Apology accepted Sir.
ReplyDeleteHe's human after all, in as much as the words can't be taken back, with a sincere apology, the pain it caused can be pacified. It takes a mature leader to do this, especially in a society like ours.

ReplyDeleteApology accepted. He should watch it next time
ReplyDeletemedicine after death, d sad truth is that he is not fit to be a governor with such words in public and also he is not a leader but a ruler. In a normal advance country/society he sud hv been force to resign by now bcus he was voted to serve the people and not the other way round by claiming to be demi-god. rubbish man i must say and a widower for that matter enjoying public funds
ReplyDeleteGood for you...when next you are angry, use a lifeline..."walk away".
ReplyDeleteMake all these "yeye" bloggers no come dey insult you again.
u are a fool
DeleteLooooL!!!
Delete@Bobo_Edo
Better Comrade Governor. That's more like it. It can happen to anybody when you are angry. This goes to show that our leaders are also human and ordinary, not in any way demigods as they portray themselves or their sycophantic aides will profess.
ReplyDeleteThere's no use crying over spilt milk! The harm has already been done...he should have thought twice before talking carelessly. In his years as a labour leader, didn't he see situations like this? The masses keep suffering; God dey sha!

ReplyDeleteGovernor Oshiomole
ReplyDeleteThis is what you get for failing to control your temper.
If you had been able to bridle your tongue, you would have no business making such an embarrassing apology and you wouldn't be the subject of this negative discussion.
Next time, if you know you can't control your anger, stay in your car and wave your hand at your country men...or bark out orders( that's what most of ye politicians are known for).
Words re like eggs..if broken..is broken...we av heard ur apology..dont do dt again!
ReplyDeleteMedicine after death. His true state of heart has been revealed

ReplyDeleteD deed has bin done,d woman will continue to place a curse on him,am sure it was cos of pple's remark abt his statement not dat he felt remorse
ReplyDeleteI said in my comment that he should apologize, And he has done just that. We all make mistakes. He is a good Governor.
ReplyDeletelong story...apology not accepted,Anyway not my business because I'm not from edo state.
ReplyDeleteThe question now is should we accept the apology or not. so if not because of the ways social media carried the news, it wouldn't have been a problem
ReplyDeletesee the right way to use your laptop batteries to preserve its lifespan
Too late, damage done.
ReplyDeleteHe's appologizing bcos its on media. What abt the things he does in d dark. Unrepentant womanizer. That was why he neglated he's wife till she died.
DeleteMtchewww! After the deed has bn done! Thanks to d social media, d lady can now get some real cash as compensation, hehe!
ReplyDelete~D great anonymous!
this is very sad, am actually dumbfounded that this comment came from my most loved governor. what must have come over him, this apology is belated, he should call the woman and apologise properly before the press and empower her too so that God Almighty can be happy with him.
ReplyDeleteBIG tym rubbish he has said it and its known that is just who he is, so he should just 4get BIG ASS grammer cos the shit is done fuck him i still say.

ReplyDelete*Awaits
DeleteI saw the video and was totally disappointed at Adams Oshiomhole who at a point in time was the N.L.C president that was fighting for peoples rights and governments hostilities to the average Nigerian. Power really intoxicates man. Instead of managing the situation properly, he showed the world his lack of feelings to a human. This is terrible leadership...........................
ReplyDelete*Drops mic and walks away
Calm Down!!! at least he appologized... The Niigga is still flesh and blood and trust me, most market women nor dey hear word..
Delete@Bobo_Edo
Apology not accepted.
ReplyDeleteLets learn to think before we act.
He has lost my respect.
To me, i call that molestation.
She doesn't look like a street hawker in the video. She was probably waiting for a vehicle to convey her.
Posterity will judge us all.
She went to buy some provisions 4 her oga who's a police officer and was waiting 4 a vehicle.
DeleteHim get luck cos na thunder with lightenin 4rm above 4 come re-arrange dat in face way alrdy dey like play ground 4 baboons.
ReplyDeleteThat's the definition of leadership for me..acknowledging one's error and remediating it. We're not infallible. That's why a portion of the holy writ states that he who does not stumble in words is perfect man. We stumble always with our mouth, and it is only with the instrument of the mouth that such missteps can be corrected. He has acted right and this should stem the tide and flow of vituperations.
ReplyDeleteMay God help us! Linda post my comment ooooo
ReplyDeleteDear Linda, pls let's help find this woman, people have raised money for her on twitter namely japheth omojuwa @omojuwa and some well meaning nigerians, pls let's extend a helping hand to this widow. Hipsy!
ReplyDeleteHe's a classy personality...made a mistake, then apologised; unlike most public officers...I will always respect the man!
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to the portion of the Bible that says "care for the widows and orphans" which is what God considers as true Christianity... Smh! God save us and our leaders.
ReplyDeleteApology not enough. He should look for a way to help the poor widow
ReplyDeleteSometimes situation drags people into doing what they dont want too, i can understand him. its all good. am happy he apologized let him return the lady's stuff before i will forgive him.
ReplyDeleteWhat celebs do to get famous in Nigeria now in the open my God
nice! that's what a good leader does. admits that he is wrong and take responsibility for it.
ReplyDeleteWho eats their vomit? He's showed his true colour, shame! He too is a widower let him "go and die"
ReplyDeleteThe damage has already been done
ReplyDeleteDude u said it already.words lyk dat dnt jst disappeaer frm ones heart jst coz u say u regret sayin it..gud tin u aware of d harm done by ur words...
ReplyDeleteThats shows maturity!!
ReplyDeleteunlike some nonchalant egocentric governor's wunt dare to do that!!
Atleast he apologized thats whot matters, he may have said it out anger!!
Moreover the woman has contravened the sanitation law!!
Yeah right
ReplyDeletena him sabi. ''First thing don go heaven'' like my younger sisters use 2 say. ** GIFT**
ReplyDeleteSo much for an apology, he should look for the woman and help her joor

DeleteU r d born fool,he's already in his 2nd tenure ewu cotonou!
DeleteLMAO... People just dey talk anyhow here
Delete@Bobo_Edo
Words are like egg, once you drop an egg it already broken and scattered... the dead had been done, if e wan do am.. make en carry that woman, give am A good shop and stock it with Goods in it.. then it will be accepted.....
ReplyDeleteTSW!!!!
apology my ass!!
Unfortunately, the damage has been done. The Peoples' Governor has disappointed us.I am of the opinion that he should have exercised caution and patience rather than allow himself get carried away by anger. It was enough punishment to have the task force seize her goods. But to tell her bluntly to 'go and die' is outright insensitive and inhuman. Poor widow! If he is sincerely remorseful, he should return her goods, and possibly pay for a shop for her. QED!
ReplyDeleteToo bad,the Bible says " anger lies in the bossom of fool" always think before uttering senseless and useless words.
ReplyDeleteBlah.blah,Blah!!!......he is apologising cos it has become subject of discourse in Social Media nt cos He sees anything wrng in what he said per se...."Show me a Man who can Bridle his tongue n I'll show u a Man that Has control over his whole body.....
ReplyDeletehe can go to blazes
ReplyDeleteI think Adams Oshomhole needs help.
ReplyDeleteOshiomole is not sorry, trust me. Becos d video went viral, he's now sorry. Did he return her goods to her?? Oshiomle is d biggest liar n scammer of all time.
ReplyDeleteI was so shocked that Oshiomole has to tell a crying widow to go and die! I admire his leadership style a lot! Finding the humility to apologise is another exceptional trait. I love this man.
ReplyDeleteYea nw he's apologising! Alys be careful of wat cmes out of da mouth cos words ar strong!wetin concern d comment concern religious studies!Edo state is not an islamic state, the bini pple r d majority, pls wt d FOMWAM went to do is irrelevant!
ReplyDeleteI think Adams Oshomhole needs help.
ReplyDeleteLINDA IKEJI FOR PRESIDENT!!!! she posts something here and Nigeria goes gaga.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure u're dat delusional kid sister of hers...how does being a world reknowed gbeborun qualify one 4 d office of d president??
DeleteI think Adams Oshomhole needs help.
ReplyDeleteCe Finis, Well said.
ReplyDeleteYimu!
ReplyDeleteWe should never say things in anger! As an office holder,he is supposed to watch what he says to people! He should not blame his outburst on anger! Mtshew.
Nonsense!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is medicine after death
Your name will forever be in my BLACK BOOK
Teresa faith
Apology is not enough, her goods should be returned to her if seized or destroyed. To show that he is a governor of the people, the widow should be allocated a stall in the market. In the absence of these, his apology is like "medicine after death." It's a shame he is my governor!
ReplyDeleteD Governor shud be more careful wit what he says in public, being a elected highly position person then he shud be more friendly to people especially in public. I am disappointed in him
ReplyDeleteNo any anger, pray Nigerians will react to the vedio, he is jst been wicked nd he is a widower oh!!! God help the poor in this nation.
ReplyDeleteOnly apologies?what of the woman's goods that was taken away, have they been returned?how does he intend to better the life of the widowed and fatherless?
ReplyDeleteNigerian governors think chasing beggars, roadside traders, paupers and homeless people off the street is going to bring development. They're obsessed with demolishing buildings, structures, churches including houses built by previous administrations. I laugh at them. They end up creating new problems because they're too blind to look at the source.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I never liked Gov. Adams, well not as a governor per say, but fashion-wise he just wasn't 'representing' properly. But aside from that, his latest remark was heartless. Even that governor from the US (New york State), that exchanged words with a citizen, wasn't this careless with words. He could have reasoned with her, if that didn't work 'cold comfort' - lies you tell to avoid confrontation "everything'll be ok". They say part of what you truly feel is revealed when you make a slip. Adams secretly looks down on the people who elected him. Now that we've seen his true color there's no need going about pretending to be a saint.
Let him go and apologise to the woman face to face and the scene should be made public, then your words 'maybe' spunged out from our memory.
ReplyDeleteEya. Honestly i cried when i watched the video n blamed Nigeria government. Oshiomole, though said those harsh words, he was doing his job at the same time. Good thing he apologised.
ReplyDeleteApology my ass . This man is nothing but a terror bully. No person in power will what he did to this woman in a civilized country that wouldn't 'to have been asked to step down by now . How dare him. He 's just as ugly as he looks inside. He used the Labor platform to the position of power and now he thinks he can open his big mouth to abuse a poor woman . Mr Governor, u are only a governor for a time and not for life . How dare u treated and verbally abuse the people that needs your protection this way? You should be protecting the woman if your state from verbal abuse and bully. What an irony !!!
ReplyDeleteOshiomole shd goan boil beans jor,y didn't he cum on air 2 make a public apology or apologise 2 d lady in person?
ReplyDeleteWetin Concern Muslims and Christian Women Concern this Matter. They will still secretly punish this widow 4 drawing pple 2 his real character. Who recorded dat Video sef better go hide.
ReplyDeleteSee pot calling kettle black.. Dah money isn't d best thing.. I know for a fact dah it isn't buh ppl lik u shudnt be sayin all dese.. Y havnt u stuck 2 ur doctrines nd made d world a better place.. If u followed ur christian doctrines wudnt edo hav been d best state in the world also havin peace.. People shud always watch wah dey say. Well, d day wen all our records will be opened is coming
ReplyDeleteSo how is that our business? Does it heal the wound on the woman. Abeg, linda, fear God and continue to let him know he is money miss road, a liar, and a mean human being. Do not come and help him save face by spreading words on his stupid and meaningless apologies. Crap. I suspected they would contact and buy you, anyway. Business woman
ReplyDeleteMschewwww!2 hell wiv d apology.its been done already unless he wnts 2 apologise 2 d widow publicly d same way he insulted her.think b4 u act
ReplyDeleteSTUPID MAN OSHOMOLE....U GO RUN INVITE DILLISH TO EDO STATE BUH U CANT HELP A WIDOW. MAY GOD FORGIVE U
ReplyDeleteDUMBHEAD!!!
DeleteDUMBHEAD!!!
DeleteRubbish all those advise na for yansh, as if he himself is pure, well he shud apologise to the widow properly and not those women leaders
ReplyDeleteHE IS STUPID
ReplyDeleteAnd u re d most stupid...Goat
DeleteAnd u re d most stupid...Goat
DeleteDeuteronomy 27:19
ReplyDelete“‘Cursed be anyone who perverts the justice due to the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen
He apologized because he wants d masses to support him next time he goes for an election which is not possible
ReplyDeleteHmmmm what a shame may God forgive us our sins. I wish he knows d trauma widows go tru.
ReplyDeleteThat video made me cried! Ugly frog face oshiomole dnt blame God when he starts showing you he's the creator of heaven and earth never trust a man on kaki...linda post my comment
ReplyDeleteHis an idiot ruling ZOO, you abuse a woman and you want us to forgive u, you disgrace us men. mate kill your self.
ReplyDeleteNigeria muslim woman ? omg how ? Nigeria is an islamic country shame.
APOLOGY MY FOOT: OSHIOMOLE GOD IS COMING AFTER YOU WATCH OUT!
ReplyDeleteWHAT OSHIOMOLE DID FOR THAT POOR WOMAN WAS ENOUGH FOR HER TO COMMIT SELF-IMMOLATION(ACT OF SETTING ONESELF ON FIRE AFTER DEEP EMOTIONAL SOMERSAULT). IF YOU SAW HOW THE WOMAN BEGGED AND CRIED YOU WOULD DEDUCED THAT OSHIOMOLE SNIFFED LIFE OUT OF HER SOURCE OF HAPPINESS. HIS APOLOGY SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTED BY ANY LIVING WOMAN OR WIDOW OUT THERE. IN AS MUCH AS I DID NOT SUPPORT GRIDLOCK MARKETING PEDDLING NOR ROAD HAWKING, MY LEFT BRAIN WAS RIGHT THAT WHAT THE EDO STATE GOVERNOR DID, WAS A SERIOUS HEAVY JAB ON THE POOR, AND THE HAVE-NOTS. OSHIOMOLE SHOULD EITHER SET THE WOMAN'S BUSINESS BACK ON TRACK IN A MORE DECENT ENVIRONMENT, PUTTING SMILES ON HER FACE BACK OR HE SHOULD GO AND MAKE HISTORY IN NIGERIA BY RESIGNING DISHONOURABLY. INJUSTICE TO ONE IS INJUSTICE TO ALL!
Idiot, can u rem hw many people u ve offended in ur life......If men were God.#smh#
DeleteSave your apologies to yourself Mr Oshiomhole or whatever you call yourself. What anger if I may ask? A leader who cannot control his temper is not fit to be one, you simply lack compassion and think you are god because you are gov today. You could have as well asked your men to kill the woman for flouting the law, heartless man. You are more of a nuisance to the society than that poor widow you dehumanized. You only succeeded in killing the little remaining respect I had for you since you decided to align yourself with born to rule Buhari who has unleashed Boko Haram on innocent Nigerians for losing an election and Czar Tinubu who wants to make Nigeria his empire. God will answer you on that poor woman in His time. Linda dearie, post my comment, u v not bn posting my comments lately.
ReplyDeleteAm happy he was sorry 4 wat he did,our gov in Rivers state wil never apologized #princess#
ReplyDeleteSilly people saying his apology is not enough. Get a rope and hang him. The bad things you've done in your life makes this insignificant!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!!!!! Best comment so fat, appreciate u..
DeletePeople easy Abeg. We've all said worse things to people. Fancy if u were being followed around with a camera all the time, most of us will be too embarrassed to watch ourselves so... Its a good thing he apologized but going to help the woman who broke the law in d 1st place? C'mon!!! Make una reason am sef.
ReplyDeleteThis is not an apology joor... He shld pack well.. He wants to apologise? He shld fine that woman and apologise publicly... #Hiss#
ReplyDeleteSilly Governor. He cannot help widows but can fly in Delish from BBA and foreign girls to his house for nonsense.
ReplyDeletePls this woman can't afford to listen to d news so she won't know abt d apology!her goods shld be given back to her and some other Punishment shld be given to hawkers cos they don't violate the rules cos they want to!its cos they have to survive somehow!life is hard!especially when you have kids depending on you!
ReplyDeletePls Linda help us find dis woman we need to help her pls do dis 4 humanity I beg u
ReplyDeletePlease we don't want religious propagation but the development he's implementing. The Governor should not allow any religious body to visit him for manipulation. We Nigerians are religious enougjh. The governor had done well to rebuke the said fake widow who is destroying development ethiquette in Edo state
ReplyDeleteOshio you fuck up big time! The only way me I will accept this apology,NA make oshio a widower marry this woman .then we can say his utterance of go and die was as a result of love at first sight which he was battling with apart from that....NO SHOW!
ReplyDeleteThe deed has been done.
ReplyDeleteOshimohle promised us (NYSC BATTCH B 2012/2013) that served in public shools of Edo state N25,000.00 each. Till date, he has not fulfilled that promise and I am not happy with him at all cos we really suffered in that state as corp members. I served in a remote area (Iguoriakhi) of Edo state where there was no net
ReplyDeletework and we were responsible for our accomodations. Infact, it wasn't a pleasant experience. Backi to the main issue, the woman was wrong to be sincere but, Oshomohle being a leader shouldn't have addressed her in that manner. GOV. OSHIOMOHLE, fulfill the promise you made to us otherwise. you MUST surely pay for it directly or indirectly.
Medicine after death. What about her seized wares?
ReplyDeleteMEDICINE AFTER DEATH. In other words if d video didn't go viral he might not have apologized.
ReplyDeleteAlwayz doing gra gra like say him be better person.
I dislike u already jor......
Anon 2:54, hahahaha @playground for baboons LMSAO!!!
ReplyDeleteApology my p***y,he has 2 control his anger.
ReplyDeleteThat is not an apology, when you apologize you are remorseful but Oshiomhole isn't, besides it took too long for him to do it, and again he did it privately which shouldn't be because the woman was molested publicly. What leader will get as angry as telling a poor widow, "you are a widow, go and die". Where is his compassion? Does the world end with him being a governor? Let's see if he is God. Women and men who are sympathetic with women take note, make sure Oshiomhole is doesn't get your vote in any election again. This phrase "you are a widow, go and die" should always be raised and used against him in any future election. Enough of heartless people in leadership.
ReplyDeleteArrant nonsense. Y shout at her in d first place. D moment she has identified herself as a widow, u cld have soft pedal and reprimand her verbaly, not to tell her to go and die. Thank God ur wife too Don die; are u a happy man? Please propose to d woman afterall u are a widower. Just a good advise to a naughty man.
ReplyDeleteHe should be ashamed of himself!!!
ReplyDeletewhy is it that; the evil that men do liveth after them, but the good that they do are interned in their bones? Ofd all the good deeds Oshiomole has done, this one bad thing is what Nigerians wont forget even after an apology Haba! I'm also of the opinion that the widow should be compensated but we shouldn't carry it overhead as if the woman never erred in the first place. Appeal to pity to me is the worse form of sentiment.
ReplyDeleteHAters Go To Hell *PAPPY*
Abeg...all these emotional talk should stop...the man has apologised; that's what matters! Why should he assist the widow? For breaking the law? All of you castigating Governor Oshiomhole say worse things; it doesn't matter if you accept his apology; he has apologised and that's the honourable thing to do...Stella Oduah is yet to apologise for saying Plane crash is an act of God...Free Oshiomole jare
ReplyDeleteHe should be ashamed of himself!!!
ReplyDeleteYou call yourselves Christians and you can't accept a simple apology...shame on you people; am sure the widow isn't reacting as much as y'all on here...hypocrites!
ReplyDeleteAbeg...all these emotional talk should stop...the man has apologised; that's what matters! Why should he assist the widow? For breaking the law? ReplyDeleteis the fool trying to justify himself?king kong oshiiiiii
ReplyDeleteUseless apc people. You see why they are all the same. Bunch of idiots. By shinning star
ReplyDeleteTo whom much is given, much is expected. Am nt surprised at such a statement, simply bcos this nation is led bymen&women who do not have the sympathy of the people at heart. Its just happened that this came on air, many has suffered worse from our so called leaders. Apology or no apology,my qstn is what happens to the woman and her kids?
ReplyDeleteIt takes a worthy leader to own up for his mistakes and apologise, well done Mr. Oshimole, now do the needful... Infact, give the woman something more meaninful than the wares U seized...
ReplyDeleteYou all speaking trash about this man should shut up, he is a human being like anyone. But he is a higher man for finding his fault and apologizing. You all act more disgraceful than this. Show me a better person than Adams Oshiomole... Ignorant Nigerians. Who never value the good things they got till it is gone. You all are crucifying him now. He is a good leader, end of story.
ReplyDeleteBut what has telling her to go and die got to do with propagating Islamic studies? He didn't talk to the women about aiding widows financially or providing services to aid employment...how will doing all these things keep them off the street? Abegi
ReplyDeleteThank God for citizen-journalism and the blogosphere.
ReplyDeleteNo Regardz 4 dee poor, keep puzzling abt this nation called naija.
ReplyDeleteHe is a bastard worst than even the president too late ashole God will judge you
ReplyDeleteThe fact that he apologized made him human. jonathan will never apologize to anyone even if he is wrong...

ReplyDeleteBullshit!!!
ReplyDeleteDamage already severely done
How many Nigerian Public Officials did something wrong and ever admit and apologize to Nigerians? Now u found one apologizing yet u are angry. After all she broke the law....you all do worse things yet cos it's a governor he has to be a saint.....hypocrites make una go ask God to forgive una numerous sins first.....
ReplyDeleteI)I am sure most of us have said worst things to people & never swallowed our pride to apologize.

ReplyDeleteAGUWA, I HOPE HE REALLY SORTED THAT WIDOW BC WHAT HE DID WAS UGLIER THAN HIM. TUFIA! #CHEWS SPONGE.....
ReplyDeleteLove all the comment I have read here lynda. Anyway, he should apologies to the woman and return her seized goods and a compensation to her for the embarrassmenttp she suffered . The Gov shod resign cos he has failed the masses he claimed to serve. I don't knw what he is apologizing for? APC is leading by example. Gov fash also told the igbos to leave Lagos, if they can't adapt to his new laws. Sometimes I wonder what progressive means?
ReplyDeleteGovernor Adams Oshiomole led a task force into the streets of Benin to clamp down on street hawkers who block the roads with their wares and risk their lives in the process.
ReplyDeleteFirst, street trading has been outlawed in the major streets of Benin city and there has been massive campaigns in the media and series of warnings issued out to erring traders. Anyone who flouted the law and continued in street trading was indulging in an act of illegality, irrespective of his or status, sex, tribe, creed or religion.
The fact that the woman in the video is a widow does not give her licence to flout the law and get away with it. The act of confiscating her wares is supported that the same legislation that outlawed street trading. In addition, the woman ought to be arrested and prosecuted but the Governor chose to cut her loose after her intense pleading.
Governor Oshiomole may have over reacted by telling her to go and die but those where the words of a leader who was frustrated by the stubbornness and non compliance of the widow and her ilk. No leader will be happy to have his directives flouted brazenly.
It is this utter disregard for law and order that make Lagos residents risk their lives by indulging in trading along railway tracks long after such acts were outlawed; not to mention such risky and despicable acts such as hanging on trains or sitting on top of them while they travel along the railway tracks.
We need to imbibe the discipline to obey simple directives when they are issued out rather than continue to thrive on the culture of impunity. That widow broke the law and needed to be disciplined, pure and simple. However, the comrade governor should also contain his anger and watch his utterances in the future because uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.
LIKE I SAID PREVIOUSLY, #CHEWZ SPONGE......
