IBB opts for low key 72nd birthday celebration

Nigeria's former military president Ibrahim Babangida turned 72 yesterday Saturday August 17th and opted for a low key birthday celebration. He marked the day with special prayers and celebrated with  close family members and a few business associates at his Minna, Niger State residence

Babangida received Aliko Dangote, Niger State deputy governor, some members of the state executive council and other prominent businessmen and politicians before rushing out to a wedding.

A day before his 72nd birthday, Babangida told newsmen that he wants to be remembered as someone who played his part and contributed his quota in Nigeria’s development.

Asked to write his epitaph, IBB said:
“Here lies General IBB born in Minna, joined military profession in 1962, stayed there for 32 years, serving this great nation and, by the grace of God, he became a military president and served this country eight years. May his soul rest in peace.”

    2. When he said low key, he meant there won't be party so having 6 cakes doesn't mean it wasn't a low key birthday bcos even the view visitors he received could have as well brought him cakes. Cheers

  8. The General is gradually retiring. Nigeria will greatly miss great leaders like IBB nd Obasanjo even with all their wrongs in office. These were real men when it comes to taking actions. Anyway I bliv he deserves a greater epitaph.

  33. Babangida in Nigeria development my foot!a dream that can never come true as he lost the chance to do that many years ago;and did he say may his soul rest in piece?ok then however it doesn't really matter whether he dies or lives. No one wishes him dead as it doesn't benefit us in any form rather I wish him what he deserves.

  35. Nigeria's development or he meant Nigeria's decadence and demise.he widened the channel of corruption which has now refused to shut and like an earthquake will soon implode the nation.he had the chance,a great one,to have used the oil and agro-resources to set the country in the way the UAE is now.he was president when nigerians still saw themselves as one and get rich quick was not the order of the day.in developed climes, people lik him will not be celebrated .Rot in hell IBB.u left inflation and corruption behind after 8 years, not a useful legacy.pray nigerians will wake up one day and see that no leader since independence has done anything remarkable enough to worth being celebrated.the present is a mirror of yesterday. If they had laid good precepts yesterday, the present will tell.I shudder to think of the future but religion is the opium of the masses,so as usual,I say e go better,God dey (however e take happen)

  52. Most of the problem we have in Nigeria today are as a result of lack of foresight of our past leaders. I doubt if ibb when he decides to stay off politics and die peacefully will be missed by Nigerians, his family? Yeah! After all they will inherit the billions(he looted) he'll leave behind. Good riddance to.............

  63. Any man who deprives his fellow man of peace when he is/was in a position to affect this peace and has not repented, should NOT expect to 'rest in peace'.
    Simple enough life principle.

  64. Who cares about your age. It is on record that you set dis nation on unprecedented path of corruption and brazen fraud which is unparalleled to any other person record in the annal of the nation history. Posterity wii forever judge you .

It is sad that this idiot is even getting publicity at all. Karma is a bitch !! His children witll soon suffer for there fathers sins.

I hope he dies soon before the new president comes into power and kills all these old looters in front of a firing squad.

Nigeria thats what you need. You need to cut out out all these old looters like a cancer that needs to be got rid of.

  68. Even the epitaph is a bit of a stretch. He was a military DICTATOR and not a "president". As to whether he served the nation (depending on how he chooses to define 'service') or the nation serves him, that one is between him and his God.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Ok,what he wanted written on his epitaph,no problem we will write about who he was ,what he did to Nigeria /Nigerians and what became of Nigera after he forced himself on us not serve us.
If he knew the answers to this then he has his epitaph content already.
Again i say;We wish you what you deserve IBB

  81. This man has forgotten that he will be too dead to write on his own epitaph; and even if he remembers to write it before he dies, folks will be too honest to even think of using an untrue epitaph. I think it will sound more like (paraphrased): "Here lies the helpless body of IBB who wrecked and destroyed this great Nation; May his demise finally bring sanity and Peace to thus great Nation".
