"When I read that a governor bought me my new car, I was annoyed by it but later found it funny. I've never met the said governor before. I've not even seen him from a distance. I've only seen him on TV and newspapers. So how can a man I've only seen on TV buy me a car? You know, people will always talk but the truth is, I don't know that man. And about my parents hearing about it, they know me. I don't lie to them so it wasn't an issue. They understand that lies like this come with the job. I love this job and this is the sacrifice I have to make. And the man in life also knows me very well, he didn't even for once ask me if the story of me dating a south south governor was true.     The many gullible responses to unverified stories about Nuella’s supposed many dalliances by both male and female readers—mostly male in fact—do not surprise me a bit. After all, Nuella is “ONLY a single (better still UNMARRIED), black African girl”, who cannot earn enough money to purchase a brand new 4X4 motor vehicle, but instead CAN ONLY have received it from “old, RICH man” for sexual favours! But what shock me are the slurs, deprecations, and invectives of all kinds against her. Are we so cynical and (especially) chauvinistic at this day and age? It’s so disappointing that all these come from modern (mostly) young, educated Africans! This attitude has nothing to do with traditions, religion, or (OUR) culture! It is a clear sign of backwardness, small-mindedness, and wickedness—I also see a lot of envy and jealousy … How would these haters would have felt if she their sister, niece, cousin, girlfriend… would be interesting to know. Nuella, don’t mind this lot, soldier on. It’s your life. Some want to make money out of your success… Others are simply hostile to you because of your achievements!
