View with discretion: 40 decomposed bodies found in Anambra river

Residents of Amansea in Awka, Anambra State woke up yesterday morning Saturday January 19th to a horrifying sight; 40 dead bodies floating in a River in their community. People from the community and some neighbouring ones besieged the Ezu river yesterday to catch a glimpse of the dead bodies. The river is at the boundary between Enugu and Anambra states and the dead bodies were found at the old Enugu-Onitsha road axis of the river.

The corpses whose identities were unknown, were suspected to have been dumped in the river Friday night by unknown persons.

The traditional ruler of Amansea said the community had never witnessed such a gory sight before, while the Commissioner of Police in the state said the dead bodies remained a mystery as there had been no communal clash in Enugu or Anambra where many people were killed. He said investigations are ongoing...

Meanwhile the governor of the state, Peter Obi, has cut short his working trip abroad to return to the state to enable him visit the scene.

The photos are quite horrifying...so view with discretion. Find it after the cut...

    1. Another thought that crossed my mind,am sure the bodies are from a hospital.maybe the bodies are too much is the morgue, and no one is there to claim the bodies,so they have to dispose it. its just a thought, cos I don't know how someone will do this

  60. You peoples Hard work really pays o. No be una dey talk say your people are hard working. This is the result of christmas spending and jamboree. This is not extra judicial killings, where is the family of those people? They may not even be from anambra or enugu. They might be victims of ritualist and am very sure they are. They've finished sucking their blood and dumped them in the river. Some people said they saw gunshot wounds just to cover up their true motives. If u say they are bodies washed away from the flood, at least relations and a lot of people would have come out to say their family member was missing during the flood, in the news they said more than 30 bodies and they are still counting have been seen in the river and the river serves the whole community even to nsukka, where did they come from? And later u will say ur people are hardworking and rich. Please add by hook or by crook. Linda please post my comment. In other news a mistress from anambra strangled her man-friends 4 children in cold blood. Its in todays sun news paper.

    1. My friend that served in anambra some years back. He was told never to venture into some villages. That they still eat human beings and once they know u are not an indigene, if u do mistake and stray to their village say they go use u do ritual. Said they usually have a trap in their compound. And they cover it wiv grass, if they lure u to the compound and u match the grass, u fall inside like an animal. Then someone will rush and pour very hot boiling water on u to first skin u, then the person will be unconscious before they start cutting the body like meat. Even a lady still serving currently at abakaliki said some places she heard they still eat human flesh and they even send it to lagos for their relatives. There is no smoke wivout fire. I have been hearing that gist ever since when I was young say igbos dey chop human being not until when I saw these 2 people that told me. Confirmed

  80. People make a lot of noise all bordered around spirituality as against being empirical. These bodies appear burnt and just a few days ago there was a pipeline fire which killed so many people whose bodies were not found. What I expect is that people should check the source of this river in Anambra and if in any way it derives its source from the river the vandals got burnt in after the pipeline explosion. Lets be scientific in our approach to issues for once!...

D communities attested 2 d fact dat nbdy's missing among them.thr hasn't been any communal clash. So i ask d question: who cud hold such amt of men n nbdy was lukin 4 them?? Judging 4rm d fact dat dis guyz were binded, stripped,n were all men. None of thr bdy part's missing..(ritualists excluded). They had gunshot wounds peeps!! I strongly blv dat those bodies were xtrajudicially killed. D police special force S***s cud hv a hand in dis infering on hw often peeps detained got unaccounted 4. Dem no get time 2 dig a massive grave; so they wanted d easy way. Just d oda day u read abt whr our police were trained,do u think an individual trained in such condition'll be able 2 point left 4rm right? Not 2 talk of knowing they r polluting abt 5 communities major source of water. I wonder hw life has bcum utterly meaningless in dis country. Dis is an immense crime n d govt shud hire special detectives to sniff dis gory incident out! Dn't involve our emptyheaded police in d inquest. Though,i wont rule d military out. Thnx.

  112. Now i can sense hard feelings and justifcation among the Igbo guys on this story. This is how it feels when a group of people are stereotyped with certain vices and negativities. We should all just stop this and learn to live with ourselves in harmony, evil is a phenomenon that associates with all humans and not peculiar to any race, creed or tribe. Peace.

  120. There is no justice in this country!
Life means nothing and has no value.
How long do we have to put up with this? When will things change? Will it ever change?
We make a lot of noise when these things happen and it's supposedly a big deal and then nothing! Nothing happens! It's becoming so so tiring.

  125. This may also be the bodies that are swept away by the massive flood that took place in the eastern and the middle belt of Nigeria. As the flood is subsides now, most likely more bodies maybe coming out to the bay.Lord have mercy on us in this country oooo

  130. Having read almost all comments here now let say what i believed at least if properly investigated will prove above 80% truth......some said accident victims, if so why only men in their youth age? some said they are unclaimed bodies from mortuary, if so why only men, why no single women among the 50 bodies? some said rituals, if so why non of their body parts is missing and why only youths? some said communal crash if so their will be reports? some said flood victims, if so then there must be children and women involved.........One person who was an eye witness said he visited the scene and saw that they mostly have bullet woods and some hands are tied behind their backs,.........the community said their are blood in the bridge which means they was thrown to the river through the bridge top............Judging with the whole evidence and and reports before me, I hereby conclude that the NPF (police, SARS or whatever) is strongly behind this, the police is hiding the truth,,,,,,I also believe there is true talk in the claims by MASSOB that some of the victims are their members arrested by the Police(SARS). If not the police should provide those people arrested to prove the MASSOB wrong. some post at other sites said that a kidnapper kingpin was identified among the deaths and the police denied and said he is still in detention but failed to prove that he is still alive, The police earlier said they are 19 ppl and with no bullet wounds, U see? here they tried to hide the actual number which is 50 bodies and the prove of bullet wounds from eye witnesses just to take peoples eyes away from suspecting the Police.....I think there are enough proves that police is strongly hiding the truth, only if Nigeria govt ar working with its brains but unfortunatelly they are fools in that seat seeking only their selfish interest, with time this whole story will end up without finding the real truth...........Just to make my point clear what i believed is at least 80% truth, that among the 50 dead bodies are part of MASSOB members, kidnerppers, other innocent victims and other criminals in an extrajudicial killing by the Nigeria Police Force (SARS particulary).........PROVE ME WRONG IF U HV ANY BETTER PROVE AGAINST ME.
