"My first introduction to sex was rape' - Foluke Daramola reveals

Actress Foluke Daramola told Punch:
My first introduction to sex was rape. It was with one of our tenants. I got so close to him and saw him as an elder brother. He looked at me as someone that had been exposed because I was busty and he thought I had had a sexual experience before. So he had his way with me. Then it was not something you tell the whole world. Then they tried to make trouble with him but subsequently people said we should keep quiet about it. We had to try and manage it in our own way even though it affected me for a long time psychologically. I had to gradually get over it. I believed so much in the principle of keeping your virginity till you are married. I started showbiz from Teen TV on DBN with Chichi Okaro. Then I used to be so vocal and when we spoke about pre-marital sex and virginity, I was always so passionate about it. It was such a disadvantage and a pity for me.

  5. Rape is a terrible thing that you can't wish for anyone. I've never experienced it but I can imagine the trauma the victims go through. Its especially sad when the victim has never even had sex before. She shouldn't let it affect her too much. Dear Foluke, just ray that God gives you the strength to put it behind you.

So many boys and girls are abused by uncles and aunties and because we like to shut up on everything due to shame of God knows what...we get a generation of abused and dejected people. What shame is she covering by not speaking out? Free yourself from this nonsense mentality biko.

Nigerians!this is why many rape victims never share their experience because callous he-goats and some arrogant she-goats would castigate them rather than show pity, love and understanding. If u read this story from your international celebs u would have shown mercy right?I have a friend who was abused by her uncle as a child, she kept reporting to her mum who kept flogging her with orange sticks till he was caught in the act and sent away. For me,there is no reason why any man should rape a little girl.Anyone who supports this act is a rapist lying in wait 4 his victim.

Nigeria is full of bitter ppl some of who dont av hope for themselves and the only think they can do is to sit infront of computers, press there fones etc just to vent there anger and frustration on other people.I read the comment of the same "NUBIA KID OR WHATEVER" on this Foluke's topic again and i remember he/she or who knows maybe "it" was the same human/thing that commented on Arinze's family picture negavetively and yet u approve another comments from the same entity on this issue again(Well, like i said as long as it gets ur blog bubbling and fill with comments to show that people r really reading your blog).Unless any of these retarded "monkeys" as the white wld call them come with a proof to show me they know Foluke personally, then how can they tell the world she snatched someone's husband? If you continue to allow some "jiggaboos" to flood ur blog, trust me a lot of ppl will find it hard to open up on issues like this cos of the negative bashing and thats not going to help a lot of folks out there who needs help not financially but just advise which ur blog can get for them thru the help of the reasonable few out there.

  70. Too many ignorant people on here!!!
I was never raped, but I was 6-7 when my uncle's best friends-2 brothers (they were all about 21 yrs), who was always over visiting my uncle, would have me touch his penis (I remember it 2x), and once put it in my mouth (I reember this 1x).
Did I know what was going on? NO
Did anyone know what was happening to me? NO

Was my mother wrong for leaving us in the care of my uncle? NO

Was my uncle naive to not think his best friend could easily do that? YES

Have I ever told anyone about it? NO

Does it affect me today? NO thats because I prob blocked it all subconsciously, so I barely remember it, but I remember the 3 scenes listed above.

Will it affect how I raise my own kids? YES

All it took was a few mins, when no one was around, it looking. Thats all it takes.

I have had friends disvirgined through rape! Getting pregnant as a result of it! ITS NO JOKE!!!! A friend not only got pregnant, but eventually had a still birth! Is she scarred till today even in her mid 30s? YES!

Please lets chill with the ignorance in Nigeria. If you have nothing constructive to say, then please its better to be quiet and get educated!

  72. Rape is 1 of d worst tins dat can apen 2 a woman thr4 dose of u tokin abt aw she wrecked anoda's womans home, shud shut it. Home wrecking is terrible, but dat is not d topic 4 discussion.
As 4 dose saying, "tis in d past" I take it dat u are very ignorant n it cud b dat ur bro, father or ur selves ar rapist n wudnt want ur victims 2 bring it up so u can go on raping innocent pple.
As a guy, I knw dat any man who descends as low as raping anoda isn't fit 2 live amongst humans. Thr4 d penalty shud b death or better still 4 dose who biliv in #otumokpo; impotence, madness or evn a curse dat such a person's wife, children-children (as in daughters) n whr d person has a son, he b raped by an homosexual 4 good measure. Tis only then dat a wud b rapist wud tink twice b4 raping anoda. Coz it seems d life imprisonment tin no dey fear rapists becos dey knw d victims or d victims family won't want 2 b exposed. Am advocating dat if u can't contest it in court cos of ur identity, do it d native way or both.

  73. The type of comments i read on this blog sometimes...i can't help but just take a deep breadth and move to the next. Why would anyone especially a woman trivialize something so horrendous as rape?
Isn't this the fundamental problem with our society? some people are asking "why are you telling us", "must you talk about it now". We would prefer if everybody kept quiet and pretend nothing ever happened and then we complain when our leaders are indifferent to the plight of the masses. Because we have the culture of keeping quiet we continue to suffer nd our leaders expect us to "deal with it".
My dear, i don't know you but you are so brave for speaking out and may have just helped someone else speak out. Talking about it is therapeutic, maybe now she can start to heal. Bless you dear.

  75. In as much as i sympathize with this woman for being a victim of child molestation, she also was responsible for what happened to her. IN FACT, SHE CAUSED WHAT HAPPENED TO HER. You may disagree with me for as long as you want. That will never change anything and girls like her will be abused in future if they don't stop being naive.
So, this should serve as a lesson and people should learn from this. If you are mother, please learn from this. If you are a girl growing up, please learn from this. If you don't, you are putting yourself or your precious child at risk to be raped, abused or molested ; which ever await you or her/him for your carelessness.
If you don't want to be a victim of rape or molestation, don't create condition that will make you a target for rape or molestation. It is as simple as that. YOU CAN BE NAIVE AND DO AS YOU WANT AND THE END RESULT WILL BE UNPALATABLE FOR YOU.
IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SCRATCHED BY A CAT, WHY ARE YOU PLAYING WITH A CAT. I WILL BET WITH MY LAST DOLLAR, THIS WOMAN WANTED TO BE SCRATCHED and she was scratched by a very big and massive cat.
In her own words, this woman wrote that she was very 'close' to a male tenant when she was growing up. What does she mean by 'close'?
'Close' as in playing hide and seek game with a 'grown ass male tenant', sleeping on the tenant's bed, having a shower butt-naked with the tenant, watching tv all night alone with the tenant in his room, going to watch movies with the tenant, sneaking out to talk and hold the tenant's hand during harmattan period or what? some girls/women amazes me. It is as if their brain is in between their legs. You don't need a college degree to know that you don't play with mud if you don't want to be soiled with mud. This woman had no business getting very close to a 'grown ass male tenant' while she was growing up with big butt and big boobs. What was she thinking? Maybe she thought the tenant does not have feelings or what. Ladies when it comes to sex, some men cant just control it. What was the poor tenant supposed to do- JUST LOOK, WATCH AND HAVE ERECTIONS ALL DAYS AND NIGHTS. . Oh maybe our little growing girl thought the tenant has erectile dysfunction or something. If she needed a friend, she could have befriended a girl like her self of similar age. Why didn't she do that? Why pick somebody who is fully charged with testosterone to be close with. Me, i have no pity for her but i do sympathize with her. By the way you lay your bed , you will lie on it. If u want, continue to be naive and disregard all telltale signs of future molestation at your own risk.

    2. You are very foolish and a bitter rapist!
Why haven't u gone to a public swimming pool and raped a girl cos she's wearing bikini? Cos its wrong!
It doesn't matter what u wear, who u're with, a rapist like u will always find a way to perpetrate dat disgusting act.

Why haven't u raped prostitutes on the road even with their seductive dresses n all??? Cos u know u'll be beaten to a pulp.
All u do is calm down and look for a naïve and harmless little girls to rape, then u come out here to speak trash!
No one deserves to be raped!

May u know no peace in ur miserable life!

    3. you ignorant nitwit, everyone has a right to do as they wish with their bodies, especially females. why the hell should the women learn? why cant we teach misogynistic men like you that the world is not your playground? why should we hide our girls all for the sake of the raging testosterone that weak men cant control? every woman should experience the freedom to dress or act as they please without beast-like men raping them and then afterwards blaming them. its this kind of african mentality that makes me run far away from african men when it comes to dating.

    4. Fay, u are wrong . You don't have the right to do as you want with your body when you are in public. That is called indecent exposure. When u are in your bedroom you can do what ever you want with your body. Dressing up to seduce men will most probably get u raped and the police in places like NY discourage it. If u like listen , if u like don't listen and then u will come later on to tell us tales like the lady we are discussing here. Rape is not good and it is better prevented. Don't make it easy for somebody to rape u but most of don't listen and u always end up being raped by freaks

  83. Speaking out against this crime is a very brave thing to do. there are thousands out there that have been raped but have not said a word at the end of the day each to their own and everywoman/man decides how best to heal. Dont judge this lady, she has made it against all odds and speaking out to shame the devil and let others who may have walked in her shoes know it is not the end of the world.
i dont know her but she has my respect. Dont judge her...

  87. Hmnn... Adebayo Omotayo! You asking the victim what she had on. Have you not read research studies that rape is less about what a woman puts on but the need for the rapists to feel a sense of control and power. Maybe if you didnt live in isolation, cos from your picture you look like you crawled out from a deserted bush. you will be more familiar with this issue and have some empathy for your fellow human being. Weren't you born by a woman? Show some respect for womanhood. It also doesn't hurt to use the right tenses and spellings in your sentences. Idiot!

  90. Most rape victims are the architect of their problem. He who does not want the "lizard visit" should not bring home ant infested woods. U patrol round the block wit pants called "bun shorts" all in the name of freedom of dressing and tomorrow u claim u are a rape victim. Infact the truth must be said "wetin hungry pregnant woman also hungry the person wey give am belle "

  110. We must stop telling victims of rape to be quiet.Speaking out is one of the ways victims alleviate their feelings of guilt and shame. We who havnt been raped have no right to tell victims to be quiet.
Ive met countless women who were raped or molested and i now realise that rape continues to destroy and affect lives years after.
Rape victims need to be able to talk, who are we to deny them ?
Lets not make joke of something that has and continues to cause unimaginable suffering to a huge number of victims.
Lets show them an open forum where they can ease their pain.
    I close mouth..
