Nollywood Producer Dickson Iroegbu set to release gay movie

Foremost Nollywood producer and director, Dickson Iroegbu is getting ready to release his latest movie called - 'Law 58', a movie about homosexuality in Nigeria and its consequences. The movie features Kanayo O Kanayo, Clarion Chukwurah, Halima Abubakar etc and will be released next month.

When asked why a movie about homosexuality, the producer replied:  

When I saw the National Assembly debate on Gay Marriage, I thought it was prophetic because at the time, I produced the movie, we hadn’t engaged ourselves constructively on how to address the issue of gay. We pretended then as if it didn’t exist in our society.  Not knowing that it was gradually eating into the fabrics of the society.

Actress Halima Abubakar and family leaving Kano for good

The actress and her family have lived in the northern state of Kano all their lives, they even have businesses there but because of insecurity in the north, and especially after the multiple bomb blasts last week, which I hear came close to home, the actress has decided to relocate her family.

In April 2011, the building habouring Halima and her mother's bakery and restaurant, Godiya Confectioneries, was burned down during the riot that engulfed some parts of the north after the April 2011 elections.

A mother-of-four attended her partner’s wedding to another woman - moments before assuming the bride’s identity in a sophisticated immigration scam.

Illegal immigrant Esther Ogunrinde, 30, even took her daughter - one of the four children she had with the groom - to the ceremony, in Moston, Greater Manchester.

The ‘bride’, 28-year-old Zunica Sabina, was an EU national, who have the right to live, work and claim benefits in any member country, to marry Nigerian Olukayode Olusanya, 34, a court was told.

Banker Chioma Nwokolo, seeks help to combat deadly ailment

 

Life for Chioma Nwokolo, a native of Awka-Etiti in Anambra State, couldn’t have been better. The pretty mother of two had dreams, one of which was to attain the peak of her career as a banker. At 33, and living happily with her husband, Chima, the lady, a former staff of Awka-Etiti Micro Finance Bank, lived and faced life with gusto like every other fulfilled woman.

But her life took a sad, dramatic twist and her joy was shattered late last year when she was diagnosed with chronic renal failure. With her condition worsening daily, she urgently needs the sum of 35, 000 dollars from the general public to finance her trip to India for a kidney transplant. The sad twist that marred her happiness and almost made her an invalid started in February 2011.

Supreme Court sack five state governors

The Supreme Court today terminated the tenure of the Governors of Kogi, Cross River, Bayelsa, Sokoto, and Adamawa. 

In a judgment read by Justice Walter Onnoghen, the seven-member Supreme Court panel ruled that the tenure of the five Governors expired last year (May 2011) and declared their offices vacant. The Speakers of the Houses of Assembly in the five states took over as acting governors, pending the conduct of fresh elections in the states.

Last weekend, Nigerian Idol returned from a recording break with all the action and music that makes it Nigeria’s biggest music reality show. Beginning from the results show, Ibinabo Romeo, Honey Adum and Lynda Giami made it into the final stages of the competition. The live recording also saw the last ten from the Nigerian Idol top 30 fight for a chance to get into the final stage of the competition. On the judges’ table, popular lyricist ‘IllBliss’ who was guest celebrity judge joined Jeffrey Daniel, Yinka Davies and Charly Boy.

Boko Haram members last night January 25th, attacked the Sheka police station in Kano, bombing the place and shooting at police men, who took cover in a nearby primary school. Can't confirm how many people died in the attack, but witnesses said it was very likely that policemen were killed.

A Texas man was speeding down a long highway trying to get his wife, who was in labor, to the hospital, but the baby pushed her way out, right there in the car! The birth was captured on the new dad's camera, who was driving and recording the birth at the same time.

The birth was quick and easy and the couple say they plan to keep the car so the baby, named Willow, can drive it when she turns 16!!

Nigeria’s New Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed D. Abubakar is a religious fanatic, according to a White Paper released by the panel that reviewed the 2001 Jos crisis.

The Justice Niki Tobi led panel also indicted Abubakar for his "ignoble role in the crisis" and recommended that he be forced to retire immediate from the force, and even went as far as recommending his sack, if he declines a request to resign honourably, following his complicity in the killing of Christians in Plateau State during the religious crisis in that state.

Nigerian woman blinded and paralysed after being alergic to all food

 

A 30 year old UK based Nigerian woman, Bunmi Shobowale, caught a stomach bug while on holiday and suddenly developed a host of food intolerances so severe that they twice robbed her of her sight and left her temporarily paralysed.

Bunmi said her food problems have affected nearly every part of her body at one time or another in more than 20 separate episodes. Her condition initially puzzled doctors, who even tried a form of chemotherapy in an attempt to treat her.
