Gov Imoke undergoes treatment for chronic kidney disease in the US

From Sahara Reporters
Last week, there were rumors that Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State had passed away. However, SaharaReporters was able to determine that Mr. Imoke is in the US where he is receiving regular dialyses for a renal disease.
One source disclosed that Mr. Imoke is staying with relatives in the state of Maryland, near Washington, DC.
“Liyel Imoke’s kidneys are in bad condition and he’s undergoing regular dialyses,” said one of our sources.
Another source said the governor maybe undergoing surgery for kidney transplant since he has remained unreachable in the last 48 hours.

Governor Imoke has been out of Nigeria for several weeks after he disclosed that he needed to take time off to address a health condition. However, Mr. Imoke did not reveal that his health problem has to do with his kidneys and that he was proceeding to the US to receive monitoring and treatment.
One of our sources said that the ailing governor “has no immediate plans to return to Calabar,” the capital of Cross River State.

  1. Nawa for Nigeria o. It's a shame that our leaders always travel abroad for medical checkup with our money. They refuse to upgrade our health facilities to international standard, yet, they use our money for trips abroad. little wonder they always have strange diseases and die before their time!

  17. So sad,as a doctor once a patient is on dialysis, then things re not so good, but hopefully since money is involved he can have a peritoneal dialysis in which he carries the dialyzer about and goes abt his daily activities, but then again in 9ja we don't hv regular peritoneal dialysis,so that's gonna be a challenge.hopefully a renal transplant surgery will help, but there's always this question of "rejection".all in all,may God be with him.these re trying times for nigeria

  29. Non infectious Chronic diseases are now an epidemic in Nigeria.eg cancer, hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, stroke.this is because of our adoption of d western lifestyle: junk processed foods, soda drinks, salty snacks,tv watching for hours, lack of exercise etc.we nid to modify our lifestyle cos dese chronic dzs r no respecters of class.Dr.olaspecial

  33. As it is now, God has heard the cry of the poor. And let this be a lesson to all leaders who enrich their pockets with what is meant for their people. As it is, any leader who suffers the people he is meant to lead is doomed. There is nothing one can do about it. As long as GOD is on the throne, no wicked leader shall go unpunished. They all know themselves, they should use their tongues to count their teeth..simple!!

As they ve no plans to restructure our health care system, infrastructure and the total well being of the massesthey wl kip falling ill as in serious ill and keep going abroad and wl keep dying.
Sowei am so mean...let the grace of God save him if God finds him worthy of his grace.

  38. This just shows that some people are praying for Nigeria. Corruption must end. If any Governor is guilty, repent now. I feel sorry for Imoke but not for Dezieani I can't stand that woman. Lord we shall eat the fruits of this land.

  39. It is so annoying that our governors and also presidents wife, travel abroad for healthcare. What about the countless Nigerians suffering the same predicaments but can't afford to travel abroad. Can't they even build only one fully functional hospital. It's s not fair. Everyone government official should not be allowed to travel abroad for medical care with tax payers money, they should als not be allowed to send their kids to schools abroad. Maybe then they woul drop healthcare and education. Utter rubbish

  43. Why are they not upgrading our hospitals to International standards? Were those ones they flock to not built by leaders too? I wish him a speedy recovery, but the truth is,Africa is cursed with irredeemably incompetent rulers and it doesn't seem the story is gonna change soon. Talk about medical tourism.
