Gov. Rochas Okorocha Shuts Down Nudity Clubs In Imo State

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has ordered the immediate closure of nudity clubs in the state, describing their existence as “strange and devilish”. Okorocha, who gave the order in Owerri on Wednesday at the end of the meeting of the state Security Council, said that the operation of nudity clubs debased Igbo culture.

He said that such clubs had compounded the eroding morality of the youths and warned that the government would no longer condone their destructive activities. Many nudity clubs are operating in the state capital.

The governor also banned under-age persons from attending night clubs in the state and warned that any club found admitting such persons or selling alcoholic drinks to them would be closed down permanently.

The governor also ordered the demolition of a house in Oru East Local Government Area and a filling station in Mbaitoli Local Government Area allegedly owned by kidnappers.

Okorocha warned that government was determined to stamp out kidnapping in the state.
He also warned owners of uncompleted buildings in the state to clean and secure them to prevent criminals from using them as hideouts.

The governor decried the upsurge of secret cults in some secondary schools in the state and warned student cult members that government was poised to deal with them.

He expressed concern over the increase in child trafficking in the state and said that government had taken steps with the security agencies to check the trend.

    2. The demolition of so called kidnappers den is wrong. They are criminal minds and don't use their property or cars for abductions. They don't lose anything when someone else's house is pulled own or car snatched is riddled by police bullets. Just get the kidnappers first. If its found to be their property then we can pull down. Hasty moves should be avoided

    ReplyDelete
  60. Runs and raw sex will now be on d increase! There is a reason why those girls are opening their Toto for men in exchange for money! Lack of employment opportunities is one of them!
Strip clubs operate here in d US without retrictions and d world hasn't come to an end! Talking abt morality, there is no nite that u will not see old married men in Owerri pickking up and dropping off young girls in their hostels located inside owerri like lil brothels! The only reason married men r scoring these young babes is money! If ppl were gainfully employed, this tendency will reduce! As long as their is corruption and poverty, prostitution in Nigeria has come to stay. What Rochas is doing is now is mere Airbrushing!

  63. I have read some really nice comments from peope with respect to what the Governor has done or should I say trying to do.Personally I do think there should be a way of dealing with the issues of the so called "nudity clubs"as he put it. We do not have democracy in this situation. No Person governor or leader can just come out and say he or she is banning anything just because of his personal feeling towards it. We keep shouting everyday cos the North will not tolerate certain dress styles, but here we are jubilating and supporting this. I support freedom within the confines of the law. NO ONE HAS A RIGHT TO BAN ANYTHING. YES THEY CAN BE CONTROLLED OR EVEN TAXED HIGHER.

Most of these hotels, motels, strip clubs etc are owned by our political class and then I ask: 'Of what benefits are they to nation building?' They only plunge us into the abysses of immoralities.
My village used to be serene and comfi for life until a certain man that claims to be a politician built three hotels at a stretch there and now you can imagine the picture of my village. Condoms decorates the corners of streets, boys sits in the open and ravish cases of beer without a backward glance, the gullible girls go about shamelessly with protruded stomach and I ask again how is this development? Maybe 'backward development'. Thumbs up, Gov.Rochas.
    But!
Demolishing the fuel station or assets of a SUSPECTED kidnapper is like urinating on the wig of our judiciary system. I thought there's a sayin that 'a man is innocent until proved guilty in the court of law?'
    thumbs down, Gov. Rochas.

  67. Pschiew! The state should not be run according to the whims and caprices of an ego tripper. There are procedures to follow.

In any event, why should he stick to determine how others live their lives? Let him face the business of governance, provide jobs, develop the economy, maintain the infrastructural facilities, provide good hospitals and educational institutions, tackle the insecurity as Owerri is fast becoming the kidnap capital of Nigeria... There are so many things to be done, but no! It is to go and poke his nose into other peoples entertainment. What he should do is rather to regulate it so that underaged children and trafficked women are banned from there... Anuofia.. The other time, na to go slap governor Peter Obi aide...

I work with an NGO and what naijarian said I right the step. E.g If u catch ashawo (even a stripper) 100times it won't stop her from the act rather counselling. FYI, politicans are biggest patronizers and they go as as far in backing such owners including brotels when their biz want to be stopped. My dear talk is cheat! I dear Rochas to name the Clubs that were closed... I bet you, you will see/hear a senator has ordered for the club to be opened. Again, club/strip club, prostitution/brotel as well as beggery is a cartel(even involve fetish stuff too) on their own. **Floetry in motion**

  72. I am a diehard supporter of the Gov and I hope as well as I do pray that this decision is strictly constitutional because if not, he has lost my support! Is it not so shameful and inhuman that Imolites have for centuries condoned such wicked culture as the OSU cast system and in the process destroyed the lives of so many young and old women? Don't we think that by covertly perpetrating that OSU vice, we are inadvertently contributing in the creation of these women who end up frustrated, dejected and lowly? One would have expected the Gov. and the people of Imo state to concertedly tackle the osu cast system with some real commitments. One way to do that will be to remove the stigma associated with marrying an osu. If HIV/AIDS could be de-stigmatized, the same could be done to the OSU system. That is what I will like this gov't to do and not the pursuit of jungle justice if that were to be the case of this recent ban!!

    2. If osu is a problm in ur community y don't u tk d campaign to ur constituency? It's no use generalising d problm to b dat of Imo. In dis modern age, u shd b at liberty to marry whosoeva (frm any where) dat interests u irrespectiv of any view som ppl may hold. If u'r a christian u'r nt bound by such archaic practice. It's those dat pledge dia lives to traditional practices dat ar bound by it. D choice is urs. So, dont xpct d Gov to leave d substance & start chasing shadows.
