That is according to the film producer, Obi Emelonye. Last Flight to Abuja
is a thriller based on terrifying real events surrounding an air disaster. It features Omotola, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Jim Iyke, Uru Eke and many more. Have you seen the movie? Did you like it?
Watching Last Flight before my flight back to Abuja is like watching Titanic before I go on a boat cruise. Make una no jinx me abeg

ReplyDeleteetcheeeeeew! The producer should be ashamed of himself to av gone on facebook to state the news. Who cares if the movie is no 2 in west africa. Rubbish ! The movie is a total arrant nonsense, just wasted my money. No body should watch that movie ooo ! Na wash ! i can count how many times Jim Iyke talked in the movie. Obi, u better cover ur face in shame.
ReplyDeletePeople, going by Nollywood standards: this movie is off the charts - Period!
ReplyDeleteAs a movie critic, it is nowhere compared to its western counterpart blockbusters (airforce 0ne, conair, etc) but, the visual effects, scene make-up, story line narrative, cast, build-up and the whole package...we should be proud and encourage Obi.
He is a personal friend and I do criticize him a lot, but this is NollyWood redefined people!
I hate this movie dey no try all waste of money and my time #sadface#
ReplyDeleteWhat a completely insensitive move to release this movie in light of what happened with the Dana flight. Of course, just what everyone wants to go see, a movie that can give them a mental picture of recently lost loved ones may have gone through right before the lost their lives.
ReplyDeleteI don't know which is more sickening, the fact that the studio has chosen to use this recent tragedy as a platform to market the movie or that people are actually going out to watch it. In any civilized country the decision to go forward with this at this time would have driven the movie studio out of business.
Coming soon to theatre near you: Shooting in the Cinema!! *rme*
Nigerians have the emotional intelligence of a door knob
The movie was shot last year december its a mere coicidence so stop hating
DeleteWhat more can I say!!!!!!! Make I watch am first.
ReplyDeleteits not worth watching @ d cinema jor
ReplyDeleteThey capitalized on the Iju plane crash to release and sell the movie.
ReplyDeleteI chose to not watch this movie after I saw the preview which wasnt that impressive. However, it has reached #2 in cinemas which is a good thing for all the parties involved in the making of the movie. Congrats to them
ReplyDeleteTotally not worth it. The movie finished before it started. Felt I wasted my money :-(
ReplyDeleteYou all re dumb, I watched the movie its amazing 1st of its kind in nigeria, my friend oma iyasara was in it and I wonder why they aint even appreciating her its that omotola s dry acting..you all should appreciate and not insult them
ReplyDeleteHi Linda and Readers.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to become a nollywood actress but lack in resources such as informations for castings and so forth. Besides I live in the U.S so any casting being held In Nigeria is definitely out of my loop.
I'm aware of the Houston 1 spot chance for the next Nollywood actor/actress but I was wondering if there are many other routes in the U.S?
Thanks for your feedbacks
Nana
Omo am not watching oh! Naija movies reduce ur IQ..infact dey take away d 'Q' n kp d 'I' which stands 4 'idiot'..mscheeww

ReplyDeleteNaija people, U̶̲̥̅̊ too get mouth jor... I'm sure none of U̶̲̥̅̊ can even write a script not to talk of producing... Y hate?
ReplyDeletewack movie jor.how can a film last for 45 mins?how can a plane crash and every1 survived except the bad guy? How can 3 hostesses enter a plane and only one was seen throughout the entire mishap?did the other 2 faint?
ReplyDeletethey spent more time showing us the trip of the various actors to the airport than what transpired in the plane.
the only moment worth watching in that film was when the pilot lost control of the plane(for 2 mins)
Pls this is so overated and Nigerians aint ready for such hi tech movies.
Nothing potted the decay in our aviation system.I thought this film was supposed to be about the sosoliso crash?
It should have been named
BEFORE WE BOARDED A PLANE.HISS
Cant put my real name her bf assassins follow me.i regretted wasting my fuel to go to that premier.
This is the most over hyped movie in the world.
we need to encourage our own industry for it to get to the level that the likes of Hollywood is today.... aside form just encouraging the Nollywood industry, i have seen the movie and it's definitely a great one, am so impressed... Omotola is a darling in this movie, she showed why she is the best of them all.
ReplyDeletemy girl omosexy gave her best in this movie i must say, she is really a darling to watch.

ReplyDeletethank you guys, dont hv to waste my money n time
ReplyDeletebut nigerian try for the film sha,but no make sense.
ReplyDeleteThis is how they go abt deceivin pple by using high profile actresses, doing their premiere's abroad, bombarding us with unnecessary hype when they have a wacked up storyline. Wasted my N1500 cos of omotola. Not even suspense. I pray say mk I use my money watch any naija film for cinema. Dem don dey hype anoda one sef called "in d wardrobe"
ReplyDeletei saw the movie last friday at The Palms, it is a nice movie, i thoroughly enjoyed the scene Jide Kosoko wanted to scare his staff only to eventually announce the trip to Abuja, nice flick
ReplyDeleteSome Nigerians are so desillusioned! U havent seen a movie and U come here to start saying hogwash, pls go get a life. Linda,hw London dey go jare?
ReplyDeleteLast Flight to Abuja is a good movie, going to see it again with my girldfriend, I love the twist to the story
ReplyDeleteso there are Nigerians who just want to bad-mouth movies even without seeing it, how then can the industry grow? the movie was shot on the Arri Alexa for the first time in Nollywood and some of u here sit here and type rubbish!, if you dont have something reasonable to say, pls stay off the internet, thank U
ReplyDeleteHeard the movie was shot on the world's most expensive camera, will love to watch the movie sha, saw the making on ONTV
ReplyDeleteIN FAIRNESS TO THE PRODUCER, HE DID GREAT, I ENJOYED THE BEGINNING OF THE MOVIE MOST ESPECIALLY WHERE I HEARD THE VOICE OF MANNY OF COOL FM, COOL STUFF I MUST SAY. THERE WAS ANOTHER SCENE WHERE CYRIL STOBER OF NTA, PRESENTED THE NEWS, YOU PEOPLE SHOULD THINK B4 U TALK.
ReplyDeleteOmosexy, the queen of Nollywood, you aid it that you wont act in movies that dont make sense again now know the reason after seeing Last FLight. good acting dearie, keep d good work on
ReplyDeleteThe movie can not be easily understood by pple wit low Iqs, if U say the movie that me I watched yesterday, Last FLight to Abuja is not good then your iq is lower than 20
ReplyDeleteSOME OF U SHOULD HAVE PUT YOUR NAMES HERE SO THAT WE CAN ACTUALLY SHAME YOU. ITS A GOOD MOVIE, VERY CLEAR, I HEARD IT WAS SHOT ON THE ARRI ALEXA AND IT COSTS 650, 000 A DAY TO RENT ONE IN LAGOS, DONT SOME PRODUCERS SHOOT THEIR MOVIES WITH 1 MILLION NAIRA OR LESS?IF A NIGERIAN HAS DONE SOMETHING GOOD, LETS COMMEND HIM, OBI U HAVE DONE WELL
ReplyDeleteFOR THOSE WHO CARE TO LISTEN, OBI EMELONYE HAS DONE WELL, THE POST-PRODUCTION OF THE MOVIE WAS VERY GOOD I MUST SAY, KUDOS TO THE MAN.
ReplyDeleteSOME PEOPLE POSTING COMMENTS HAVE NEVER GONE TO THE CINEMA TO WATCH NIGERIAN FILMS YET THEY COMPLAIN LIKE FRUSTRATED HOUSE WIVES, I WAS AT THE PALMS LAST FRIDAY AND WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THAT 6 HALLS WERE USED TO SHOW THE MOVIE AND THE PRODUCER WASNT STONED TO DEATH SO WHY COME HERE AND TRY TO NEGATE THE FILM?GOD HELP US
ReplyDeletenice movie, the people bad mouthing it should first direct a play in their respective compounds first b4 hurling insults on Linda's page
ReplyDeleteI CANT BELIEVE WE STILL HAVE SOME CLUELESS NIGERIANS AROUND, HOW CAN YOU SAY THE FILM IS WACK?A FILM SHOT ON ARRI ALEXA, THE MOST EXPENSIVE CAMERA IN THE WORLD, WHICH COSTS OVER 650K DAILY. IN THE LAST TWO YEARS NOLLYWOOD HAS IMPROVED, THIS MOVIE WILL FURTHER SHOW THAT NOLLYWOOD IS HERE TO STAY
ReplyDeleteI saw the thriller for this movie and it was serious!!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the real movie!

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO at first poster.
ReplyDeleteFirst, it isn't an easy feat to make a feature film, period! The money, time and energy one put into a risky business like film is a lot.
Having given kudos to Obi, let's me that this bragging would be worth it IF it was the No. 2 film at the cinemas period! Being No. 2 in West African cinemas is not exactly bragging rights, I am sorry to say. What project is Last Flight competing against? It's competing against crap Nollywood films, now let's brag when the film is competing against Dark Knight, Spiderman etc in the WORLD, i.e. in cinemas across the world. Isn't that the supposed aim of Nollywood, to be truly global? If that's the case, let's safe bragging for when that goal is reached.
FOR THE FIRST TIME, CNN AND REUTERS CAME TO COVER THE PREMIERE OF A MOVIE IN NIGERIA, WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU? WHY NOT BE HAPPY FOR THE PRODUCER? SOME PEOPLE THAT HARDLY PASSED ENGLISH AT WAEC ARE NOW HERE SAYING SILLY THINGS
ReplyDeleteI THINK LINDA SHOULD DO AN IQ TEST BEFORE ALLOWING SOME PEOPLE POST COMMENTS HERE, WE NEED SOME SANE PEOPLE IN THIS PLACE, NOT THE OPPOSITE PLS
ReplyDeleteI AM FEELING THE MOVIE, I DONT KNOW ABOUT OTHERS, ITS A GOOD ONE
ReplyDeleteTO THE PERSON WHO CALLED THE MOVIE USELESS, ITS SO SO UNFORTUNATE I CANT SEE YOUR FACE OR NAME, YOU REALLY DESERVE TO BE FLOGGED ON THIRD MAINLAND BRIDGE BY OFFICIALS OF LASTMA AND KAI, THIS IS A GOOD MOVIE, BETTER THAN ALOT OF JUNK WE SEE THESE DAYS
ReplyDeleteGet a life and stop posting comment after comment.

ReplyDeleteMy people! Pls don't waste ur money. I cleaned my bom bom, went to d cinema, bought pop corn, bucket of chicken and drinks and trust me when I say it was a waste of my precious sight. I wld have felt better watching Nigeria take last in all the olympic games that watching this sori sight for a movie. Poor acting, horrible production, inexperienced actors and actresses... Except omotala, jim iyke and Jide. Trust me u wld prefer watching Cartoon network. The movie is over hyped. And I have decided never to watch any Nigerian movie in d cinema again. WEIST

ReplyDeleteLinda, u never post any of my comments, why? Anyways, for those who re yet to see dis movie, just knw dat everybody hissed as d movie ended. It was a waste of time. *rolling my eyes @ Linda*
ReplyDeletefor all those who said the movie was wack dts a big lie... i watched the movie i was moved to tears seeing the way the pilots struggle to save peoples life when there's gonna be a crash, seeing how just little tings like your wife not waking you up to catch your flight or your kid saying daddy don't go can just save your life. there where lessons to be learnt as well like not going through the wrong way to get your ticket, dont cheat on your babe u never can tell wen shell meet a better person n just fall in luv in less than a second.if i would rate the movie i would give it 98%. i liked the way they made it look real, looking forward to watching more of such movies from nollywood
ReplyDeleteMy friend got sick just from watching the movie, he had to cleanse his body and soul cus it was more than wack, I knw Nigerians r trying but honestly dem no try for this one...too much hype but nuttin to show for it!
ReplyDeleteTo be perfectly honest it is a forgettable movie. It has just been hyped immensley. They had some HORRIBLE special effect with fake moon and sky and airplane moving up and down like it was on a toy set. Acting was ok but nothing really gripped me. Concept was fabulous though. With the right execution it could have been amazin.
ReplyDeleteIt is very insensitive of the priducers to do such a movie just when some family are yet to collect the bodies of the dead. You rush off to do a movie about it.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys u just saved me from wasting my hard earned cash
ReplyDeleteOh wow; the preview was good and the buzz and PR around it was huge! Hoping it will be good.
ReplyDeletewww.princessofzion.wordpress.com/2012/08/10/men-and-infidelity-part-3i/
The storyline just like Mirror boy was poor poor poor Who wrote this mess
ReplyDeleteI just watched the movie last flight to Abuja last night wonderful film by Nollywood standard loved it and I have asked my friends to go see the movie miles better than Nollywood standard .
ReplyDeleteHaters get a life . I never wanted to go see the film but I went because of what a few haters said about the film.
Very impressive ... Kodus to the makers of the last flight to abuja team. 98 percent is my rate.
Its trully amazing to me how you can rubbish this movie. No 1 person has done a movie even close to this. Obi I salute you and your work. 9ja when will you all stop and see the bigger picture. Our aviation services are literally killing us. 1 person has decided to take a stand and not produce the usually love/fetish stories in Nollywood and all you can do is run the movie down. Linda sincerely I expected more from you and your readers! Infact your write up is very biased “Aaccording to Obi....” Come do ur PR better than this. Let's speak out 4 the victims of our nations plane crashes and encourage the individuals who actually go the extra mile to create the awareness. Atleast Obi Emelonye is doing something abt it. I praise the Last Flight to Abuja and welcome the change. Go out spend ur money and help the cause. This was money well spent for me.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmm I hav tired oh
ReplyDeletepoint of correction the film is just (1hr plus), and not two hours, 2ndly keep your opinion to yourself and stop running your mouth... i have watch it, and it is very ok, far different from the normal nollywood thing! thumbs up to who ever owns the film its not easy.
ReplyDeleteLast flight to Abuja best film in cinema right now 2nd place above spider man... Haters go die !
ReplyDeletebiko biko pls dont waste ur money .its a BS movie
ReplyDeleteAt least,y'all can commend a gud effort.they'v only taken off....cheers
ReplyDeleteAlmost all here has ruled it out, so I won't waste my tym and money too#GBAM#
ReplyDeleteWhen u watch movies like "Phone Swap" and "Mirror Boy", u get ur money's worth, but "Last flight to Abuja" hmmmm * shaking my head*
ReplyDeletethat was how dem do anchor babay we go watch am nah rubbish. then there was another one that i can't remeber the name we go watch again and nah rubbish. then this film dem hype am we go watch as usual again and nah another rubbish. i tell you ehh linda this would be the last time i would go to any london cinema to support and watch all this rubbish that dem dey show
ReplyDelete@the chap saying an arri alexa camera (best in d world) was used and it costs N650k per day; no wonder d film ended so abruptly - their money must have dried up. But then why were so many scenes blurry if d camera was that good? Abi na 2nd hand dem use?
ReplyDeleteThe storyline was interesting but there should have been more flesh to the script to play out more xters. We have no clue what happened to some ppl after the crash, eg Kosoko d oga, the employee that didn't travel bcos of his daughter, etc.
The producer (Obi) and the pilot (Hakeem) actually showed up at Yaba to thank us for coming to watch b4 the film started. He pleaded that we should be GENTLE with our criticism - now I see why. People must have been asking for their money back - lol
Nigerians can be funny at times, they are yet to see the movies and criticism will be poring in like shit... i have seen the movie and i must confess that it's a job well done....omotola really showed why she is the number one actress...

Its clear to me as the producer of the film that a number of people commnenting have very little idea of cinema and as is being suggested by others, that their IQ is possibly low and they truly dont know how to appreciate a film that is markedly different from what they are used to seeing.
ReplyDeleteYes the film is 80mins, which is feature length and as much as we would have liked to have made a longer film, that is the length this story required.
I am aware that some audiences have suffered from bad projection in some cinemas and so this would account for why they think the picture of the film is bad. Most negative commenters say there is no storyline, when there clearly is. Maybe the structure was too much for some to take or understand. They should also know that not every film has to be 2 hours to be in the cinema or explore every character's back story or resolve their storyline. I agree that the FX were not the very best in the world, but they were the best we could afford and the best ever seen in any Nolywood movie. Every new development in any country's cinema starts with a step forward and we took those first steps.
Its so disappointing that in the times we live in some Nigerians spend so much of their time online putting down Nollywood films and the filmmakers, and like many say, they do this without ever having seen the film or ever having achieved anything near what filmmakers like Obi has done here.
As a point of fact the film grossed the second highest amount (N8.35m) in Nigerian and all other W African cinemas in the week that it opened and beat all the Hollywood films such as Think Like a Man, Spiderman, Avengers, Madagascar and was only beaten into 2nd by Dark Knight Rises. Last Flight.. did this playing only in Nigeria when the other films mentioned are playing in other countries across W Africa. That is the scale of the achievement and it should be acknowledged and not rubbished or questioned. This is the second straight film with which Obi has achieved this important milestone.
For those who still need verification all figures are in the public domain and can be confirmed at www.boxofficemojo.com
Finally, I want to say that if most of the negative comments are real views (something which I am doubtful of as I am very aware of a hate campaign organised by supporters of certain well known directors who are clearly jealous of Obi's achievements) then this film has definitely polarised the Nollywood cinema audience and that can only be because of its visionary nature.
Thats all fair, but it must be made clear to everyone that this film was shot in December 2011 and before it was first premiered in London we consulted heavily with family of those involved in Dana crash and most agreed we should proceed with the film now rather than later.
As a producer I have nothing to prove as I have a long and distinguished career in the international film industry and I am committing myself to the West African industry in the last part of my career and hope and pray more of the cinema going audience in Nigeria can become more sophisticated in its appreciation of contemporary Nigerian/African films that have an international outlook and encourage the best African filmakers to stay or return home and make more films such as Last Flight.., which for all its flaws is just one step in the right direction. I hope most agree.
Friends, please support your own cinema people, because the others just want your money and dont care about our stories.
