LIB readers you guys rock! Watch this Documentary about Oke

We don't just gossip here, we do good too. This is by far one of my proudest moments. We all helped make a difference in the life of someone. Y'all remember Okeoghene Ighiwotho, the diabetic patient who lost his toes and was bedridden for six years? (Read it HERE if you missed it), Well, his life is about to change. He's currently in India to get the surgery he needs to be well again and it's mostly thanks to you all. After I posted his story here, a lot of you took it to Twitter, Facebook, other blogs and kept talking about him until it got the attention of those who can help him.

The governor of Delta state (where Oke is from) read about Oke's situation on this blog and decided to help. I remember getting quite a number of phone calls, e-mails and text messages from one of the governor's SAs ...so this really gladdens my heart.

Oke called me before he left for India and after he got off the phone, I had tears in my eyes. It was the way he said thank you, Linda. I plan to see him when he gets back. Thanks LIB readers, you guys rock!

Continue to watch the documentary about his journey and how LIB made a difference...

  84. ONOME says......................
This is really inspiring.I am particularly pleased to learn that Governor Uduaghan took up the matter.Like I wrote in your original post on the story, waiting for 1000naira from different persons may help but overwhelming sepsis would have overtaken Oke.He needed the money as a fell swoop and I am really glad that Uduaghan stepped up to the mantle and did the right thing.

I still want to emphasise diabetic care and management. If we had listened to his sister carefully we would hear that she said the infection started as "one small dot".And really that is how diabetic foot starts.A sore/wound/blister that may not even be noticed and even when it is,is carelessly brushed aside as insignificant. The wound/sore then degenerates and we have what Oke had here : Diabetes Mellitus foot stage 4.I want to reiterate it again like I did in the original post;if you are diabetic you must do all you can to keep it well controlled. You must also practice total foot care(I enumerated some points in the other post)Prevention is key here.

I am sure his feet will be amputated and he will be fitted with a prosthetic. He will still go on to live a fulfilled and blessed life.
I salute you Dr Uduaghan and other well meaning Nigerians who have contributed to this young man's success story.I look forward to a better Nigeria where top rated health care services are made available to EVERY NIGERIAN irrespective of class.I look forward to a Nigeria where things work.I look forward to a Nigeria where leaders do the right thing.I look forward to a better Nigeria......Oh Lord hear my submissions.May it happen soon, amen.

    God bless Nigeria,God bless Nigerians.
And Lindooo,I no forget you. This year na your year. You know every na.

It goes a long way when you give someone hope or put a smile on someone's face. It also go a long way when you give a voice to the voiceless. I hope that in our own little ways, we can make a difference in someone's life.

  99. My goodness. Been away from blogs for a bit, only to check on LIB for some Lagos gossip, voila. To think I actually grew up with the ighiwotos(oman, tega, karol, ruth, onos) and never heard about this, I feel ashamed. That I allowed this so-called lagos hustle deride my civic duty to my fellow country-man, not realising it was within my household. That cos of a paltry salary, I delude myself that I am too busy to remember people in my life.

I want to thank each and every person who uttered the name of okeoghene ighiwhoto, who took the time to spread his plea, his friends who didn't abandon him but sought help on the web, on LIB. The internet is not all bad, we can accomplish great things with this "whiteman's magic".

Linda you are truly a gem. I bless God that he used you to save oke. You are truly chosen, you will not be defined by your marital status, but by the impact you have on people's lives, fulfilling your purpose on earth, and when your ordained partner finds you, he will know he has found a good thing.

I am humbled, I implore each and everyone to literally take a minute out of our busy lives, and smell the roses. Let us be our brothers' keepers. Let us incite our leaders to listen to the people.

Oke, you will live and testify to his Glory. Thank you for inspiring me.

May God bless us all and meet us at our points of need.

  100. My prayers are with this young man, I could see his heart from his eyes and knows he has a big future ahead of him.
I felt more for his sister who had to stop her curtain business to care for her brother. May God restore her..

I have just a piece of advise for Dr. Uduaghan..put a world class hospital in Delta state and offer subsidized care and health management to the Deltans. Delta state is rich enough to finance it..there are many more whose stories we don't ever read or hear but waiting for help.

Lately there has been a decrease in the love of people for their neighbours...But I believe that there are still genuine people of God out there. Please, If your heart is stirred to help this situation, please don't hold back.

This is a plead to everyone to please help as he is running out of time.

Send in the little you can, pray anonymously for him and re broadcast this message. Let us do the little we can as humans to rescue him.

  130. See as everyone is saying 'Thank You Linda" cos she helped broadcast the news that got the help. Meanwhile, I'm sure like 95% of you dint contribute anything. I'm guilty of that cos I don't have yet but to those that do have, what did you do? Pray? If prayers were enough, he would have been fine, but that wasn't what he needed. So I urge, that when such clarion call is made, please we should help!
    Thanks Linda.

My name's Toochukwu Edward Egungwu. I'm an indigene of Njikoka LGA, Aambra State. I was born with sickle cell anaemia. My father is alive but with a severe case of stage 4 prostate cancer. My mom's deceased. She passed away in 2008 after a long battle with stroke and diabetic wounds. In April 2004 I was admitted to the Federal University of Technology Owerri. While there, asleep at night, I was bitten by a venomous farm Ant on the inner ankle region that caused a minor sore. In a few days, there was rapid degeneration of the sore into an ulcer. I was going to the health center in the University at the time. Alternative wound care was ventured into. Herbal remedy that didn't last more than a year. Went to different hospitals around the country finally @ LUTH. The ulcer had been recurrent. My father currently has stage 4 prostate cancer and that has eaten into his funds for healthcare and left none for me. I was referred for surgery to India for my leg and my arms to be regrafted. It isn't easy for me. Daily I am in immense pain. Especially at night. Most nights I spend sleeping in a chair because the position is a bit bearable for the leg. When I am in bed for an hour, the pain starts again. I am trying to raise $21,000 (about N3.4 million naira) for my trip, surgeries and post surgical care. On my own, I'm unable to raise this money hence my honest appeal for help. Please help me and may God almighty with his infinite mercies keep u and your family in divine health.
Find attached below a link to my photos of ailment and also my account number for ur seed sowing in my life. please help to save my life.
    God bless you,
    Toochukwu Edward Egungwu.
