Ghanaian court sends Nigerian man to prison for registering to vote‬

Ghanaian court
A 35-year old Nigerian businessman, Chukwu Ebere, will spend the next two years in a Ghanaian prison for registering as a voter in the West African country.‬

‪The accused, an Imo State indigene who has lived in the West African country for a year, pleaded guilty to the charge of deceiving a public officer. He will be deported after serving his sentence.‬

Speaking to the Koforidua Circuit Court where the judgement was passed, Police Inspector Patrick Adzadza said Chukwu was arrested on March 27 at a registration centre in the country.‬
‪Adzadza said the accused presented a voter Identity Card with number 2327681 in the name of Emmanuel Osei Kojo, to Tanaso South Registration Centre at Nsukwao for registration. Chukwu claimed his name was Emmanuel Osei Kojo and showed his previous voter ID as proof; he was consequently registered and issued a new voter ID card.‬

‪However, Chukwu's treachery was quickly discovered by Ghanaian police officers who were gathering intelligence on the exercise at various centres. He was immediately placed under arrest.‬
The presiding judge, Wilhelmina Hammon, said Chukwu could have jeopardised the peace in the country. She added that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.‬

    1. Identity theft is a serious offence. We are so familiar with fraud in Nigeria that's why we think the setence is a lot. Two years is just right. The question we need to ask is why was he so interested in voting?

  22. Correct!!! I so love what the ghanian government has done..they should replicate same for all the Nigerian criminals in Ghana that have started bribing government officials and police there. Where I live outside Nigeria and we have a lot of Africans and they soo hate Nigerians and dont like to have associations with us ...we've created such a bad reputation of ourselves everywhere, I have to continually prove to people here that I am different and dont do fraud, cheat etc ..its soo disgusting Im thinkin of changing my nationality totally...NIGERIANS WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE we need to tackle corruptio starting from me and you..

  24. as a ghanaian this is a warning to nigerians, that we have forever been a peaceful country with very good global reputation, dont bring no bullshyt here to our land, your accent alone is a dead give away. We dont play that.

Unexamined life is not worth living, ask your self why no country dont want to deal with yall. South Africa, Ghana, UK, USA etc - Its not a few bad apples - its many bad apples.

Dont think your blood money can always buy your way through everywhere you go.
