So who's lying; Reuben Abati or Pan African News Agency?

Jonathan and Yayi
Presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati said yesterday that President Jonathan never contested the AU chairmanship with Benin Rep President, Boni Yayi. But reputable news agency - Pan African News Agency (PANA) reported otherwise.

What PANA wrote below...
Yayi Boni succeeds Obiang Nguema as AU Chairman
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (PANA) - The President of Benin, Yayi Boni, has taken over the chairmanship of the African Union (AU) following his nomination at a mini-Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Boni's election came as a result of compromise by the West African leaders.
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan had made a last-minute bid for the Chairmanship, but his quest was opposed by Ghana and other West African states which supported the Beninese President.
 So who's lying? Continue reading...

Equatorial Guinea's President Teodoro Obiang Nguema handed over the leadership of the AU and installed the new Chairman at the 18th AU Summit, which kicked off on Sunday, with the crisis in North Africa and the need to manage the transitions in the region dominating discussions.

Speaking during the meeting, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon made a formal plea to African leaders to appreciate the differences in the crises in Libya and Cote d’Ivoire and mend fences for the sake of future relations.

“There were differences in Cote d’Ivoire and Libya. These were not differences of objectives or goals; our partnership is anchored in shared values. These were differences in operational and strategic approaches. This is natural, even to be expected among organisations with varied mandates and membership,” Ban said.

  4. As in foreign news media can't lie? Or it's not human beings working there? The only place we can get the truth would probably be from the people who voted.

  5. Our psyche has been so battered by IBB that we are sceptical about the truth even if it is stairing right into our face. Reuben Abati of course is telling the truth.

  15. The article you posted above is what I read on nairaland.com a few days ago. It is obvious that Reuben Abati is lying to protect GEJ from shame. You know fully well that the average Nigerian working for a president will do anything for money.

  16. I did a search on PANA PRESS WEBSITE http://www.panapress.com and I did not find the story i.e. the one you quoted on your blog. I also did a general google search using the exact phrase from your site - 'Yayi Boni succeeds Obiang Nguema as AU Chairman' and restricting the search to panapress.com, it did not return any result.

I was wondering - did someone send you the information/did you copy it from another news source?

Or did you see the information yourself on the PAN AFRICAN NEWS WEBSITE. If you did, can you put up the link?

However, I did find the article about Abati response on PANA PRESS website - http://www.panapress.com/-Nigeria-s-President-did-not-contest-AU-Chairmanship----12-816409-20-lang2-index.html.
