Gunmen Kidnap Briton and Italian in Kebbi State

Gunmen kidnapped a Briton and an Italian from their lodge in Nigeria's northwestern town of Birnin-Kebbi, shooting and wounding one person who tried to prevent the attack, police said on Friday.
The two men, who were working for a construction company, were seized from their accommodation late on Thursday in the capital of Kebbi state.

FG To Spend N500m On Jonathan’s Inauguration

A whopping N500 million has been earmarked by Federal Government to mark the inauguration ceremony of President Goodluck Jonathan as the president of Nigeria for the next four years later this month.
Also, former president of Brazil, Mr Lula Da Silva, has been slated to deliver an inaugural lecture as a mark of honour for of the president with about 35 presidents and heads of governments across the world having signified their intention to be part of the inauguration ceremony.

The lecture, with the theme: “Consolidating Democracy For National Transformation,” is billed to come up on the May 27 in Abuja. In the same vein, an inaugural football match between the Kaduna United Football team of Kaduna and the Eyimba Football Club of Aba is slated for the Abuja Stadium on May 28. - Tribune

Councillor Tayo Situ, the Nigerian-born London Mayor in the Borough of Southwark, London South-East has died. He died on Monday May 9, 2011 after a brief illness. Mr Situ was representing Peckham Ward. He came to the UK from Nigeria in 1985 and has been a councillor in Peckham since 2002.

Oyo State Govt Approve N18, 000 minimum wage

Oyo State Government on Wednesday approved the payment of N18,000 minimum wage to workers in the state. The approval was given by the State Executive Council after serious deliberations on the matter at a meeting in Ibadan. The N18,000 minimum wage was agreed upon by both the representatives of the labour union and the state government. The payment of the new minimum wage is with effect from May 1, 2011.

Immunity clause may have prevented the long arm of the law from encircling them but that will soon be over for nine outgoing state governors across Nigeria. Sources at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC told P.M.NEWS this morning that the anti-graft agency is going after the nine state governors it perceives have cases to answer over how they spent the billions of naira allocated to their states throughout their tenure.

According to our sources, loads of petitions against the nine governors are now with the EFCC and in a matter of days the governors will be made to account for their deeds as the commission says it has begun to investigate them. The nine outgoing governors, according to P.M.NEWS findings, are Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State, Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State, Bukola Saraki of Kwara State and Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State.
