Rape of 11 year old girl in Okigwe, Imo State

Network on Police Reforms in Nigeria, NOPRIN, just received information about the alleged rape of an 11year old girl in Okigwe by an Okigwe-based businessman from Isuikwiuato, Abia State. The Victim's aunt told NOPRIN that the alleged rapist lured the little girl- who was hawking an item, to his apartment on the pretext of going to pay her for the item he bought from her. He raped the girl overnight while her guardians were searching for her.

The following morning, the alleged rapist put the girl on a bike that took her to her village where the guardians eventually found her. She's currently hospitalized at Okigwe General Hospital and in bad condition.

The suspect is said to have been arrested and detained at Okigwe Police Station. The IPO's name is given as Ossai, with phone number: 08063479188. NOPRIN is making efforts to get full information and the phone number of the DPO Okigwe Police Station.
***

Please people who live in that area should get involved and contact the police station - and that number I put there, please call it and disturb the hell out of the IPO. Find out all you can about this case...the perpetrator must not get away this time!

This has got to stop. Something drastic has got to happen. Child rapists should be sentenced to life in prison or something like it. Why are some people so demented?

  6. First paragraph, line 3 - when did an 11 year old become a teenager?! These journos can't even report a story properly.

Everything is so mediocre. Mediocre government; mediocre (police) authorities; mediocre services etc. The only thing the country succeeds at is being a failed state and the innocents continue to suffer at the hands of bastards. How is this child ever going to get over this? This story will die a natural death, with no redress for the victim, like all the other reported atrocities.

    I do despair!!

  9. sad sad! poor little girl, it doubles my dislike for the male folk, it seems like ild just join the convent with the things i read about men! how can a grown ass man find an 11yr old girl sexually attractive and how can a grown ass man not have self control? its only an insane person that lacks self control!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Superswag is right, why is an 11yr old girl hawking and not in school. She's even older than many I've seen. Secondly, why is the poor girl named and her attacker not? She's 11 years old, we should not know her name...her attacker/accused should be named.

What a country, poor poor child.

  11. This rape epidemic involving children is getting out of hard- our society must make a move against it and it must be punishable under the law with hard penalties- we need to do something about it- the sooner the better

  13. Hey Linda, it isn't proper to mention the names of minor victims of sexual crimes. It's possible that is how your source released the information, but next time, please omit the name from your own reporting.

  14. it's really sad to hear that a fully grown man would decide to touch a merely developed adolescent! Men, you really need to be careful and try to channel you frustrations, anger and lust towards doing something more productive. It is sad that they allow the devil to rejoice whilst they engage in immoral acts. We are no saints but most of us know right from wrong. And this is soo wrong!

Please do Check out: www.deltawomen.blogspot.com if you would like to address these sort of issues and make a difference to someone somewhere!

  15. Please Linda... Okigwe is in Imo state, not in Abia state just as Portharcourt is in Rivers and not Bayelsa state

  18. This girl is not a teenager, but a child. She is eleven. Given her tender age, the rapist is an effing PEDOPHILE. He should be hanged for defiling a child.

  25. This callous! Something drastic has to be done about this behaviour. There are justification for this and we all should share for this dirty act. First we vote that who not capable of managing and running the polity. Then the economic situation does not support the poor and they are forced to seek alternatives for survival. Hence the parents giving out their children to guardians to ease stress and the guardian adopts the poor girl as a tool for survival. The fortunately old bastards who have made illicit money explore freedom by crashing a little girls right to self preservation. My verdict, such men be hanged! Let's all find this country cuz it seem lost. Www.lostbutfounditems.com

  26. Linda, firstly, when a victim of a sexual assault is still alive and is a minor, it is unethical to publish her name on the social media; children's rights. Can you edit the post and remove her name? She's too young to have this haunt her for the rest of her life.

    ReplyDelete
  27. stupid number not connecting...such men don't deserve to live...yes,linda,very true, please take off her name, bad enough she's suffered enough publicity already in the hands of a rabid dawg!!!!!

  28. I don't get it... Nigerian perverts just rape like its something they have to do. i am so surprised that instead of strengthening laws on rape, we focused on gays that have consensual sex. talk about mixed priorities. Its disgusting and I can only hope something is done. well, with all the rape cases being publicised, the police will only take a bribe and ask the DOG to apologise. Atleast its being made public, that's a good step. time to start burning the rapists to death! and for the girl to Hawk, its poverty, so when people ask why she was hawking, well ask the government! children in Nigeria have been raped for years, noone cares to even check the stats.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Incidents like this should unite each and everyone of us to put a stop to child labour. If that child was in school gaining education, she wouldn't have been a victim of rape. Ss for the businessman, God alone will deal with him in his own way.I pray the girl survives the trauma.

  32. we don't even have proper rape laws, but we have the time to criminalise homosexuality when even a member of a senate is married to a 12 year old. nigerians make me laugh.

  33. i feel sorry for the little girl that was raped.punishment should be imposed on the culprit as he so deserved it.But i want to use this medium to tell Linda Ikeji that Okigwe is not in Abia state,as she so described the incident by putting Abia state in the picture. Please Linda,be sure u get to the root of information or stories before you begin to convey it to the world.

  36. Eeyaah, what a pity. Upon the punishment attached to rape, people still indulge in such act.
This rape epidemic involving children is eating deep into our society and it's getting out of hand. Our society must make a move against it, and launch a campaign over that and it must be punishable under the law. We need to do something about it and fast. And I advise that the guardian to the chap should take her to medical experts for proper examination. And if possible, the police should intervene and try to fish the dog out.
But for Ur information Linda, Okigwe is in Imo State and not Abia State. Although U cannot differentiate them if U don't know the area well.
    God save our society.

  38. I disagree with this write up and I suspect foul play from this writer.you guys should try and be realistic in some news you post online its unfair putting up fake news or a little verification 4 God sake.. in other way round okigwe is in Imo sate let imo state verify it and let persecute them.

  39. This is an abomination. So disgusting and shameful to the man in question. God will expose him when he do not expect, asshole. But for general public notice, Okigwe is in Imo State and not Abia State. Linda Ikeji take note. This Okigwe needs sanitizing for God's sake. So many atrocities goes on there.

  41. ASAMPOKOTO OR WHATEVER YOU CALL YOUR STUPID SELF,
I have noticed that you can never make a comment without being verbally abusive. Just because your illiterate, demented, emotionally unstable self has access to the internet does not give you the right to log on to the internet, come to Linda's blog and run your maggot infested mouth at everyone who has a point of view contrary to yours. You are most likely the product of two wretched Nigerians who were too hungry to focus on giving you a sound and proper upbringing.

Why should the government be blamed for the actions of selfish, over horny, poverty stricken Nigerians who choose to have way more children than they can adequately take care of? If every Nigerian gave birth to the number of children they can comfortably take care of, no one would have to send their kids to hawk on the streets or send their children to distant relatives or strangers as housegirls and boys just for them to become vulnerable to rape and other forms of sexual abuse.

A time will come when children who were forsaken by their parents will grow up and forsake them too in old age. So for those of you who just make babies for the fun of it when you have no means of adequately providing for them, you will reap your rewards when you get forsaken by the same children you brought into this world to suffer. Mark my words!

  42. As long as Nigeria will not protect her children and females, our country will continue to incur the wrath of God. You have sexually depraved Naija men constantly causing permanent psycological and emotional trauma to these young girls. When these young rape victims grow up and cannot get themselves to have a healthy relationship with the opposite sex/gender and thereby turn gay/homosexual, you bloody fools will be the same ones to scream "off with their heads!"

Like someone already mentioned, Nigerian men have been sexually abusing little girls for quite a while and they rape even adult females as well and get away with it. Do you then blame some of those females who choose to become lesbians?

As a society we look away at the atrocities that are committed against our female children and women and yet we expect God to bless and save Nigeria? God is weeping at the atrocities happening in Nigeria. The other day, a baby girl was killed and her corpse dumped in the sewage like trash. God is watching and we can open churches on all corners of each street like the bloody hypocrites that we are as a people but God is not to be mocked. When boko haram begins to bomb all parts of Nigeria then you will know that Nigeria has been delivered into the hands of satan the enemy and there will be no deliverance until we change as a people. And don't think we can get up and run to other countries because no one wants us because of our criminal/419 tendencies and reputation!

  43. pls people lets be up to date with the times. I am so against child labour but the reality is that sending a girl child to school doesnt in any way protect her from rape and defilement. There are reported cases of teachers defiling students. Even medical doctors have done the same. That is why no mother should allow her underage daughter have a physical examination if she is not present. Even fathers have now joined d race. It seems it is now their birthright to deflower their girls. what women need to do is stick together and support each other. Dont trust your daughter to any man not even her father. It only takes moments for these wretched men to scar innocent souls forever.

  50. molestationmuststop!9 December 2011 at 11:24

@Superswag like anon said, even school doesn't prevent a child from being abused.I was a victim of molestation when I as 6yrs old,pry 2, by my male lesson teacher who was also my class teacher. Told my classmates about this later on and i was surprised to learn that he did this to almost all the girls in my class. He had this hole in his trousers and he guides little girls hands to his p*nis and even fingers them at times.
Moral of the story?!Let's start sensitizing little girls about these perverts and dirty acts they commit,no age is too little. I couldn't tell anybody when it was happening to me,and I've spoken to a lot of girls who went through the same ordeal.
