Islamic Banking is Soludo's Idea" - Sanusi Lamido

“Islamic banking proposal began from the period of former CBN Governor Charles Soludo, and all the process and procedures for its formation were arranged before my coming as the Governor of the CBN. I inherited the idea. A committee on the formation of Islamic bank was appointed and this was led by a Deputy Governor of the CBN Mr. Tunde Lemo. The committee was fully satisfied with the proposal and formation. So this is not my idea, I met it on ground.” – Sanusi Lamido, CBN Governor.

  2. I don't care who's idea it is.. As far as I am concerned, it shouldn't be a welcome idea. Considering the fact that Religious crisis is taking a terrible turn. Before we know it, the Muslims might use that as an advantage to fulfill some damn cause!!

Its either the name its changed or they shouldn't act on it shikenan!!

  5. I don't take Nigeria seriously again. At all, at all! How did we turn to a bunch of petty and small-minded people? Almost every issue in this country always boils down to a senseless struggle for superiority between Islam and Christianity. How sad.

I've been keenly following reactions to this CBN plan and it's obvious that most of the opposition to islamic/non-interest banking is based not on sound economic arguments and reasoning but largely on anti-islamic sentiment. The fact that I'm not a Muslim doesn't prevent me from appreciating the possible benefits these new banks may bring in terms of expanding the options available in the financial sector.

  6. I just got this quote from sanusi Lamido at a forum yesterday which best expresses my feelings and that of any objective and broad-minded Nigerian desirous of progress in our country.

"For us in the CBN, we will like this conversation at the conference not to be a conversation between Muslim and Christians because Islamic banking is a universal product. We will like it to be conversation on finance, economics; it is about deepening the financial system and enhancing financial system stability and financial access,".- Sanusi Lamido

lets stop being sentimental instead logical
I felt this way till last week when I educated myself on what this entails

  8. i don't care wat it entails...we don't need it in nigeria at a time when religious crises are at its peak.
Sanusi is now saying it was Soludo's idea, buh wen he resumed office he was quick to point out that the banking sector was sick....i no buy this idea at all at all...
All of you that are saying it is not about religion, wait still the bank starts operation, they won't emplo a single. Christian there, it is about religion and Nigeria is not an islamic country so we don't need it.

  13. Whose agenda is sanusi Lamido Sanusi Presenting? All his stories, explanations, analysis etc are not acceptable. It is only for the interest of very few people. Also, don't tell us it is Soludo's idea, it is not acceptable. With the way Lamido is causing confusion in this country, i see him booted out of that Office before the end of 2012.

  16. Am a muslim, the truth is there's no problem with islamic banking, is just a matter of choice because, they dont charge interest, but i dont support this sanusi idea cos his approach to the banking industry is too rigid and this has direct impact on our economy. for example he gave two unreasonable policy to the industry which doesnt make any sense.
    1. he said something about maximum withdrawal and deposit, this can only work where in a perfect economy not in nigeria.
    2. he increased minimun balance to N25,000 when minimum wages is N18,000.
do we have president in nigeria at all, what is jonathan doing, why has he allow sanusi do be operating autonomously without being checked. i cant blame sanusi, i will rather blame president jonathan, and the truth is he doesnt hv any charistma of a nation's president.

  17. Islamic Banking is not a bad idea at all. The company i work for(a UN agency) does a lot of work with Islamic Banks in the Far East and Middle East.

The only problem is that Nigeria may not be ready for it now because most people just see things along the ethnic and religious lines.

  18. Most of us just pass through school but we are not learned. we need to understand what Islamic banking is before criticizing our cbn president.if don't want any religious institution the we should start by scrapping out religious university. you don't have to open an account with the bank cox i will never open an account with the bank
I'm a born again christian and i can't follow the Islamic regulation so let those that can go ahead and enjoy the banking system.

  20. Look, let me tell u why i dnt like dis islamic banking of a thing, it is a kind of greedy banking, it is all about you banking and no interest ontop of the money u banked.

He said as u kept so shall u take even afters years (no interest rate again) so why are we then banking, and tell me how will d banks make their income for salaries, that means we will start having umemployed ppl again in d country and jsut think what next...

u cannot compare nigeria with UK, d economy and polical situation is not thesame with ours. there is stable but nigeria is still yet to be martured.

In the easten part then "YES" but not now again, things are not sameways of our forfathers. Is only God that will restore us again, so lets nt introduce what will harm us the more. Pls do more findlings b4 taking what u cnt chew.

  22. The noise coming from Pastors (and i do not say christians generally) is understandable, they are only trying to protect their investments. Orisejafor is the brain behind one of the most successful Micri-Finance Banks in the country. See for ya sef!
