Trains are coming back to Nigeria

In keeping with promising less and delivering more, I promised revival of our railways. If you live near tracks, you may have noticed that promise is now a reality. Trains are now gradually getting back on tracks. We met a rail service requesting attention and gave it support. It is the same way that we will bring life to every sector in Nigeria with your help. GEJ

He plans to build 36 railways in all 36 states. Is that necessary and can this be achieved in four years?

  1. Yes it can be done. And of course it is necessary.
Train should be encouraged because goods also have to move around the country.

  2. Hello, nice blog and those who comment are equally as funny. I see you still have the picture of the python with the baby there. I'd like to also appeal that you take it off because it's rather frightening and quite inappropriate.

Keep us posted on the reality show.

    Take care.

  3. Nigerians know that CANNOT be achieved. Its a pity that the President's plans are not realistic. I may be wrong but I don't think he has any plans at all. His aim is just to be Mr President.

  4. When did he promise that please? Someone should help me remember!

  5. Definitely Nigeria has a variety of problems that needs to be resolved but yes this is actually something beneficial especially if it is done right and managed properly. It will improve transportation greatly in the country.

  6. For God's sake, Mr. Prez. should stop dangling carrots before us. He also promised to fight piracy when he met with Nollywood's artistes recently. All these promises are things he should have done long ago.

Nigerians are tired of listening to empty promises from clueless politicians. They want PURPOSEFUL ACTION! He has not dome anything significant since he was sworn in, and he has shunned all the debates. Now he is resorting to very incongruous initiatives that do not speak well of him at all!

We should all have a re-think before we vote for PDP this time!!

  7. ill give it 6 years...because it does take a while to construct. not only that, but i believe the power sector has to be in order first.

  8. Its all Campaign Strategy!! This trains are all Loco motive, Its 2011 and the world has advanced beyond this deception.
I know people would say give the him Credit but Mr Jonathan there are far more issues affecting us than for than this #LightupNigeriaNow#
What about all the elite contributing money for your election campaign, come on now, we all know how corrupt this people are, they are all associated to you politicians one way or the other, The Otedola's (Father was a Politician), the Adenuga (Close friend of Babangiga), Bola Shagaya and co, we all know about all this people following you. What are you going to do about the common people of Nigeria? Forget Jonathan's story of him coming from a poor back ground, Obasanjo and Atiku all came from poor background, that didnt stop them from squadering our resources.
If you are serious about transforming and restoring Nigeria, start by Probing the people you surround yourself with, urself included, Corruption is eating us dry and PDP is mostly responsible for this!!!
Stop all this campaign Propaganda and tell me what you intend to do about CORRUPTION!!! And again Light Up Niaja and let poor man do business.

  10. in my opinion,it's very necessary and given the political will, very achievable in 4yrs. If he employ the services of a country where it actually works and works well, i tink that'll help.

  14. what do u mean "is that necessary" linda?? Ofcourse! With that, there will be less cars on the road, less car accidents, better option during fuel scarcity, less chances of getting robbed on the high way....less chances of the roads deteriorating due to less cars on the road....lesser chances of city congestion and pollution.....more job opportunities. It is an excellent idea! Lets hope he follows thru!

  15. Fab idea. but big no no, security wise, considering stuff going on...

    ReplyDelete
  16. I believe its possible. But not within 4 years. It takes a long time to lay the rail tracks in states that are not already running train services. But for those that already have like Lagos, the change has already began.

    ReplyDelete
  17. It cannot be done. The world has moved on from this kind of rail. The world has moved on to natural gas and electric rail!!! Moreover, Mr. President's goals are not SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.

  18. what sort of rubbish locked up train is this..hope boko haram wouldnt bomb this one..abi they travel out in china japan france, dnt they see the kind of trians that r there? why build us olden days train? nah zinc dem use build d train? haba!! ok untill u post more pics

  19. It's not in itself a bad idea; It could potentially attenuate traffic congestions and boost the economy. However how will security be enforced on these railways? We are not able to control and resolve the issue of highway robbers. Kidnappings are on the rise...Who is to say trains and train stations will not become a new haven for criminals. This would only work if the president addresses the whole project in a comprehensive manner.

  20. trains looool
something wey go stop to work after elections.
Another waste of tax payers money.

  21. if for nothing else, i sure respect GEJ for his way with words. ah ahn! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. yes linda it is very necessary....the roads will be less congested....leading to better roads, and less accidents.
we all should be be positive and join hands in prayer that it comes to pass, and stop being negative. dis is what is killin us nigerians.

    ReplyDelete
  23. this good...i like it...like the first comment says..it is necessary because it will enhance the movement of goods around the nation...plus it will reduce the pressure on the roads as well..so its a good plan in my opinion...all of u that are saying that GEJ has not done anything significant since he was sworn in...what did u expect him to do...eradicate poverty in the span of 8 months or bring constant electricity...lets be realistic please

  24. See the ugly train, cant he get posh ones like virgin trains? must everything in our country be second hand? Please I hope the whole country is privatised so we can have quality services, cos its evident this government don't care about its citizens.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think its a good step in the right direction, there is definately an urgent need to decongest the traffic on our road and with up and running rail system, the havoc on the road will reduced.

    ReplyDelete
  26. "Is that necessary?" Seriously Linda were you really asking that question?

    ReplyDelete
  27. come on Mr. President must you make promises in the name of making promises? first it was universities, then airports and railways. please have a developmental plan and stick to it. we know it is necessary but it is not feasible in 4 years.

    ReplyDelete
  28. yes it can be done and it ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY NECESSARY. With the explosive population, we need a fully diversified transportation network

    ReplyDelete
  29. we want light!!!!!that is all.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nigerians have totally lost it .Our biggest problem is such as not believing in ourselves and our leaders. How many of U can even do what GEJ is doing even if given power 10 times, its so quick to judge and point fingers when you are not wearing the shoes.I really don't like Jonathan but I believe prayers can make him a better person, its not EASY...More so let's pray 4 peaceful election

  31. Someone was on the train earlier this week and said it took them 7 hours from Lagos to Ibadan! Seriously? If they cannot get such a short trip right, then let us be realistic is it necessary? Trust me it will be another white elephant project. I wonder who got the contract for this? What about safety, maintenance etc? It's an election year and promises have to be made. With the trains, they may abandon fixing the bad roads and say "well you have an alternative, you can take the train!" Metro/tube/underground....not

  32. Am completely in agreement with naso, for God sake, this guy has been in power for some few months and people are xpecting him to perform miracle in a country that has been damaged long before him. Pls let us give him some time/chance to prove himself. It is always very easy to destroy but it takes time to re-build.

    ReplyDelete
  33. We are our own problems, what did u mean by 'Is that necessary and can this be achieved in four years'? most of us don't like development and will always give unnecessary complaint. It is a welcome development and is the duty of the forth coming government to continue on the previous policies of past government.
The rail sector has been abandon for long, this is a step towards positive development.
Lets try to appreciate good things..

  34. @ Mimi...how would u conclude that the image of the train Linda put up would be what the trains would look like? smh! please people, Jonathan has been in office for less than a year oh! @Kay...u say he shd av done a long time ago? wen wd that have been? wen Obj was pres or wen Yar'Adua was? na wa o for Nigerians!

  35. Old Locomotive!
Lagos to Ibadan i spent 7 hours and some minutes.
Then How many hours will i spend getting to Maiduguri or Calabar
Rail Road Project takes about 10 Years to finish depends on the size of the country and the structures on ground.
A country like Nigeria with good contractor will take like 11 years
    Moron!

  36. Linda`s lack of exposure is the main reason she will ask such a a stupid question. Ofcourse trains are needed in Nigeria. It will improve movement of goods and people around de country and will lead to the decrease of food stuff. If well managed it is cost effective and efficent.

  37. @GURU
It was a maiden trip hence the slow speed
they aren't meant to travel so fast because DUH!!!
    it was a maiden trip

there are people filming, journalists on board, people at the train stations meant to cheer as the train is passing .

If only some of us will just sit down, read and process information properly before rushing to drop a reply that makes no sense.

  38. what are these useless trains? I know Jona has used Naija's money to travel overseas and so he knows that these are not the calibre of trains we need. Naija shine ur eyes this elections o!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think it's very necessary. Less traffic congestion and maybe even noise and air pollution. Even if he doesn't complete 36, half of that will make a change.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Linda, all the outfits you see and say 'loves it', how do you think they get moved around in Europe , Asia and other parts of the world? If you had tracks all over Naija, You can move sweet potatoes and tomatoes from the North to the south with relative ease. I once counted 68 royal mail units in the U.K attached to the main body of a train carrying just mail!! It is important this vital sector is improved and standardised
