'Ije' Missing from 2011 AMAA Nomination list

Chineze Anyaene
Quite a number of people were surprised that the block buster movie 'Ije' featuring Omotola and Genevieve didn't make the African Movie Academy Awards nomination list. Anchor Baby, and the recently released movies, A Private Storm and Mirror Boy were nominated, so why not Ije?

When the producer of the movie, Chineze Anyaene, was approached by reporters to find out what happened, she allegedly said "Professionally I didn't enter 'Ije' for AMAA for reasons best known to me."

Errm, so one has to enter a movie before it's nominated? #confused.

  1. me sef confuse big time o..... so u'll have to enter a movie for nominations.

I thought nominations should be anonymously done.

For Instance.....I Lionel Messi hereby nominate myself for world footballer of the year....nah nah nah Kojo

  2. Yes you have to enter your name for some reputable movie/music awards, also there are cut-off dates for these things, to give the judges ample time to access the movie and vote appropriately.

For example Oprah has taken out her Show from the Emmy awards for years because she keeps winning year after year and she wants to give new comers a chance.

Linda educate yourself, stop being ignorant.

  3. The problem with Nigerians is EGO, i will not blame Chineze Anyaeze neither would i blame AMAA boards.
Chineze has not really enjoyed a robust relationship with other filmmakers in Nigeria simply because, she's seen as one who didnt pay dues or even bowed to the amazons in the industry yet she came with her (Outstanding) movie from the states and it became an instant hit hands down.
The Nigerian filmmakers were slighted that a ('girl' with intent to belittle) young woman could pull such wonders with something they haven't achieved in how many years of active existence in the film industry. To make matters worse, she was considered rude to have bragged in an interview that her movie sets Nollywood on a new path insinuating her movie is the best to come out of Nollywood. So most filmmakers in Nigeria kindda embarked on a talkdown on the producer (and even tried to r*bb**h the storyline of the movie) referring to her "a girl came with her student film, with major help from her instructors" and thats a red flag to her.

  5. Yeah you have to enter ur movie into various nominations, and they judge it compared to the others. Same thing for oscars and others

  6. Yes you have to enter most of the movies Awards to be nominated.
Awards Panels that nominate people without them submitting an application are usually no one is interested in.
That's why sometimes you have people who are going to be shown but don't want to be considered for the award.. You see a lot of that in Sundance for instance...
if it was not the case with the thousand of movies coming out everyyear there is no way a panel would be able to objectivelly say they have checked every single one and selected the best...
That's also why some movie producers (and even in music it is done) come out with their movies within a particular time of the year so that they will fall within Cannes or the golden globes, or the oscars season..

  11. i cant believe Linda herself can be so ignorant of the facts that creative works are always entered for awards, an example is the LION-CANNES that happens annually in paris... as an advertizing person i know very well that Ad-agencies that dont enter thier works dont get recognition least to speak of an award and same goes for the Oscars.
Linda cannot deny the fact that she had at one time or another read articles of entry for the AMAA awards nad on those same articles we have information about countreis who entered thier works moreover there's always an entry periods with a closing one too.
Linda being confused about IJE being nominated without being entered by its rightful owner amounts to gross bickering.

  12. Anonymous 9.28: Linda's forte is modeling, blogging, branding and most recently she has added to her many credits writing and judging contests. She is NOT a film maker or an actress so why would she know that one had to apply in order to have a film evaluated for an award? She WAS trying to "educate" herself which is why she asked if one had to apply to enter an award to win instead of making an assumption.

Do YOU know everything? Obviously you must think so since you gave yourself the right to call her ignorant. Pride goes before a fall, MrMadam ITK!

    Chei, Linda, you try o!

  13. Alicia, she might not be able to enter it again because most awards have a time limit, some will not accept film not made within the year, for ex. an award committee in 2011 will not accept submission for films completed in 2008/2009. They might only call for films completed in 2010.

  15. That is a way to blacklist good talents. It is unfair. The girl worked hard on the movie, why now?

Looks like AMAA boys are attacking Linda here o. You don't need to always enter your movie for awards o. You can be nominated.
