She is being very foolish. The boy has a father and this very wrong of her. Regardless of what issues is going on between them, she should not take away that boy from his fathers love. My younger brothers wife did this to him with 2 kids. After my brother tried everything to make his ex reason with him and allow him time with his kids, he tried this for over 1 yr. He then ignored her and the children completely. Remarried and has 1 son that he idolizes, she is now going crazy and looking for his attention. And using the kids to literally gain his attention. My brother loves his kids a lot so he of course now spends times with them and does everything for them. If I were him, I wouldnt have caved in
It probably make her feel so good because she thinks she will do anything to make her son happy. Unfortunately, this will confuse and hurt the child psychologically. If you want to shut his Dad off completely in his life, then be a great Mom and let him know he's got no Dad but if you play both roles, you are mentally hurting him. This is absurd. The boy has a father. He could have been informed that there is an event he ought to attend at his school not for the mother to take the role of the father. Does separation mean separate the child from his father? This so wrong; mothers who lost their husbands wouldn't even do this.
