"He dragged him several poles before stopping" Distraught widow of young Port Harcourt banker narrates how he was killed over dented car

Priscilla, the young widow of 28-year-old Union Bank staff, Paschal Chukwuemeka Nnorom, who died after he was dragged along the road by a motorist has called on the government and security agencies to bring his killer to justice.

It was gathered that on Saturday, May 13, the couple left their Origwe, Elingbu Road residence to attend the wedding ceremony of Paschal's colleague in Elelewon area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

On their way, a Toyota Camry car, driven by one Joseph Udoh, from Anang in Akwa  Ibom State,  hit  Paschal's Honda CRV SUV in Oil Mill area of the city, near the Eleme bridge.

According to Sunday Sun, the deceased, who hailed from Eziudo Mbaise, Imo State, was said to have alighted from his vehicle and walked over to meet the driver of the Camry. Sunday Sun gathered that he placed his hand on the door of the Camry, when Udoh allegedly refused to alight from his own car for them to resolve the matter. Rather, Udoh quickly wound up the glass, trapping Pascal’s hand and then sped off.

Speaking to Daily Sun, distraught and grieving Priscilla, narrated how the tragic incident happened, resulting in the killing of her husband in her presence.

"After driving off from our home, we passed through Rumukrushi and turned at the Shell gate, before joining the MTN link Road where we saw the car trying to link the Oil Mill road. The Camry hit and dented my husband’s Honda CRV and both of them stopped and my husband alighted from his vehicle and went to meet him. But Udoh refused to alight from his own car. My husband’s hand was still in the door of Udoh’s car and he quickly wound up the glass with my husband’s hand trapped between the glass and the door frame. Then he sped off and dragged him several poles before he stopped."

In the process of dragging the victim, his body hit the hard pavement severally. Satisfied, Udoh stopped the car, came down, opened the door and pulled the near lifeless body of the victim away and attempted to drive off. But luck ran out on him, as he was stopped by eyewitnesses, who stormed the scene and held him. The mob was said to have tortured the suspect and was about to give him jungle justice before he was rescued by policemen from Elelewon police station, where he was being detained as at the time of filing this report.

Priscilla told Sunday Sun how the murder of her loving and caring husband had caused her world to collapse. She also described the husband as her best friend.

“He was everything to me,” she added, sobbing profusely.

According to her, it was when her husband was being dragged on the express road by Udoh’s car that his spinal cord and legs were broken and he became immediately unconscious.

"Firstly, I rushed my husband to Saint Jude Hospital, Elelewon, Pano Hospital, and later, Saint Martin’s Hospital at Stadium Road. He was later referred to Braithwaite Memorial Hospital (BMH) and later, University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) where he died."

According to the widow, one of the most painful aspects of the death was that her marriage to Paschal, the fourth son and the last of his parents’ nine children, was yet to produce a child before his death.

“When the mob was beating Udoh, he told them he was ready to die, as far as he had done what he wanted to do,” Priscilla said.

Sunday Sun gathered that soon after her husband was confirmed dead, Mrs. Nnorom fainted and had to be revived. Meanwhile, she has appealed to the government and the security agencies to bring her husband’s killer to book.

“I want justice, I want the government to intervene, to bring the killer of my husband to justice,” she said, wailing.

The elder brother of the deceased, Mr. Julius Nnamdi Nnorom, 50, told Sunday Sun that he had doubted the news of his brother’s death, when he was contacted on phone and only believed after he got to the mortuary. The Lagos-based freight forwarder said he boarded a night bus and arrived Owerri about 4am. The same Sunday, May 14, 2017, he came to Port Harcourt to see things for himself.

“We went to the mortuary to ascertain, if what I was told on the phone was true, only to find my brother stone dead and cold,” he said.

He disclosed that another problem confronting the family now is how to console their 70-year-old mother who lost her husband in 1997.

"My mother is in a terrible condition now because, my late brother, being the last born, was very close to her. The shock is severe, the damage on her is unquantifiable, is like when her husband died in 1997."

Julius also appealed to the security agencies and the government, to help the family to get justice.

    2. @TreasureAkara, I believe in being prayerful and walking away from trouble... However, after visiting Port Harcourt a couple of times, I tell my folks that Lagos drivers are learners when compared with Port Harcourt drivers with respect to being lawless

  11. This is pure unadulterated evil. Cats are dented everyday on Nigerian roads, in many cases the person in error apologises and is allowed to go and life continues. Tis wicked murderer had no respect for any human being or human life or anything whatsoever, he must not be allowed to go without facing the consequences of his WICKEDNESS. He left his house with the intention of killing someone, he is a murderer from hell assigned to steal away a very precious lives. It was a most gruesome and horrible killing. My heart grieves for the wife who had yo witness the murder of her husband. May the Lord console her and heal her life, she has been horribly traumatized.

  13. People should learn to walk away at times. If the person that hit your car doesn't have the conscience to stop, to discuss things with you, den let it go. Leave the person for God or even hand the person over to satan. That's was how a course mate of mine in school lost her hubby . They were just married a yr and she had a new baby then. The man was even young like 29yrs or so, only son, and then a banker. On his way going to work, a trailer scratched his car, this man had to leave his car, nd jumped on the trailer, no minding the fact that he was putting on suit. He was up there trying to open the trailer passenger side and probably jump in,wen the guy sitting there pushed him out. He fell down, hit his head hard , and then an on coming vehicle rammed over him. Both the trailer and the other vehicle zoomed off. Till today, that was how dis man died, and am so sure that if he is given a second chance and taken back to that day, he would have let it go.

  20. May he soul rest in peace. I feel so much sadness for his family. Some of the comments here are so thoughtless and ridiculous. Someone hit his car, he approached them and some of you are trying to blame him. No wonder Nigeria is the way it is. My appeal is to the government to get justice for this man. I don't know him personally but this is heartbreaking.

  21. This is really sad! I recall when some drunk guys in danfo bashed my Daewoo Nubira along Ozumba Mbadiwe. I pursued them only to come across a brand new Murano that was cimpletely crushed. I turned back, went home and fixed my car. The cost was only N6000 .
It is a lesson we must learn. Walk away from trouble.
Resist the devil and it will flee from you.

  22. Mr. Paschal Emeka Nnorom is my good brother and friend. He is my birthday mate which which for some years now we used celebrate it together. An easy going guy. His death is a shock me. May his gentle soul rest in peace. Amen. But for that devil's incarnate called Mr. Udoh, May you never know peace until death visits and your soul shall never rest in peace. Amen.

  31. So he died at last!!! I was there and assisted in carrying him into a vehicle that took him and the wife to the hospital. The scratch was just small. The incident happened just like a flash. Every one there at the scene blamed the guy because its like the guy wants to die, the car didn't even worth 600k and the demage wouldn't cost him 3k to repair. May God forgive him of his sins. Its a pity

    1. Pls wait first, make me understand, what has the cost of his car got to do with anything...fine h didn't walk away ehen??? So this automatically means he deserved to be killed right??? See before u request God to forgive Pascal's sins, u need to cry to God to forgive u for the arrant nonsense u just spewed....also ask God for wisdom and a reasonable thought pattern before u ever contribute ur opinion in whatever form... thanks as u comply!

  34. Am sure most of the people that commented here on the guy walking away are not car-owners, yes, i said it, sue me.
Wait until you have your own car and lets see how you will react when some senseless idiots bash your car and will not even show remorse, then you can come back and castigate us.
My brand new 2014 was barely 2 weeks old when one idiot bashed it and shifted my bumper and did not even have he courtesy of coming down to plead but sat in his car and was waving at me with a smile, you need to find yourself in that situation before u gauge your own reaction.
Some Nigerians are just really wicked and are animals in sheep's clothing who should not be allowed to live among humans.
RIP fello comrade, may God console your family and erase your sins.
