The Ogun State Police have arrested a 37-year old man, Ifeanyi Ajaero, for allegedly beating his wife before chaining her to a generator from night till morning.

The suspect Ifeanyi Ajaero chained his 28-year-old wife identified as Obiageli to the generator on the night of Friday, 14th April till the next morning, Saturday 15th April, 2017.

During interrogation, Mr Ajaero admitted to chaining his wife to the generator, but claimed his actions were for “self-defense. The State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, who confirmed the arrest described the action of the suspect as the height of wickedness and warned residents that the command wont tolerate any act of domestic violence in the state.

He has also ordered the immediate transfer of the case to Anti- Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the state Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.

  20. I have read some of the comments here, the comments are just as strange as the 'chaining' event. Can't you all see that the woman in the pick was handcuffed? Where did the husband procure a handcuff from? Besides, how is it possible for the woman not to carry that small, tiny gen and go to a neighbour's house to sleep? Why did she stay out all night as the story purports? Drama

    1. @Mr Common Sense, I quite agree with you. In the first place, what is she still doing in that marriage?

    2. Whatever the circumstance, there is no justification for chaining anyone to a generator, because you think you can.

Your logic is foolish. Your own issue is that the man was exposed. Hopefully you're not sure potential wife beater.

    4. He worked with the Navy, the generator seems to have been chained to another object that looks like a table. Fear can keep a person immobile and the neighbors might be wary of taking her in so as not to incur the husbands wrath. In Nigeria we mind our business when we are not supposed to.

  24. It's just disheartening how some women can allow men to rubbish them. Yes, he overpowered you and probably, lock the doors too. Did he also lock up your voice to shout and attract neighbours? Btw, well-done Mr Ajaero or whatever you name is. Hope you will try same rubbish with your fellow man?

  32. Most of you foolish people linking this nonesense to a tribe are just bunch of idiots. Havent yoruba men done worse things, what about hausa and their flogging, beatings etc of their wive and some useless people here will link it to a tribe. Especially the foolish igbo girl here talking nonesense, no wonder your type are the ones chained as dogs. Evil is evil and must be condemned without fear or favour, not linking it to a tribe because of your inbuilt envy and jealousy towards them.

  33. I agree. It's ALWAYS Igbo men beating their women! It's disgusting.

  34. .... and Now let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter, 1. God had sence when He said that a man who loves his wife loves his own body and the one who hates..... 2. Over the years, men in marriage see their wives as objects of manipulation to exhibit manpower 3. It was said that a third party should not meddle in marriage but I tell you, the society has become so worrisome, neighbours pretend to mind their own business rather than saving the marriage, this woman had neighbours! 4.it does not really matter what tribe does it most, the truth is, we have to with one voice to condemn domestic abuse be it on the man or the woman 5. As a neighbour don't say 'e no concern me, na so the man dey treat the woman, you never can tell what good it will do the society if you meddle in marriage affairs with a clean mind, lastly, I think Govt should introduce whistle blowing on domestic violence and abuse, you will be so amazed at the outcome. Together we can change our society, together we can heal the world, together we can help our neighbours, I rest my case

  38. She must remain in that marriage otherwise the Nigeria society will bully her for not fighting enough for her marriage. Her fellow women would be first to lash at her. Nigeria is a very tough place for women unlike here in Europe where women are treated with so much respect.
