VP Osinbajo receives traditional title on behalf of President Buhari in Abia State

Friday, Vice President Osinbajo was in Abi State as part a the series of Niger Delta Dialogue visits. He received the title 'ENYIOHA 1' from Abia Traditional Rulers, on behalf of President Buhari. Just so you know, 'ENYIOHA' in Igbo language means 'The Great Elephant'. Another photo after the cut...

Linda, "enyi" can mean either elephant or friend in Igbo, while "oha" means "people".in this case, it is more sensible to say "enyioha" title means "the People's friend" than "the people's elephant".

  8. Hello All,

Linda please permit me to correct you.

    1. My friend, both friend and elephant are spelled as Enyi, with different inflection when pronounced. I don't know where or how you came up with Eyi.

    2. Sorry, u sef don follow Linda jonse.

      Enyi - friend
      Enyi - Elephant
      Eyi - rabbit

In this context what the title means is FRIEND OF THE PEOPLE.

But I can go with Linda's translation, Buhari go collect animal title Bc he is only friend of apc

  19. Wrong translation! However, whichever way you look at it, it is unfortunate that our Governors especially the Governor of Abia State who is doing nothing is busy giving titles to Buhari who has done nothing for the South East. The cry of marginalization became accentuated when Buhari became President. This is evident in his disproportionate allotment of offices when he was sworn in. The Enugu-Onitsha express way and the dualization of the second Niger Bridge are still subjects of controversy. This present administration has done nothing notable for the South East to warrant a chieftancy title. Traditionally when the President or vice President visits a state he commissions of flags off notable projects, we need to ask the Abia State Governor, where are his projects. It is annoying when I see him often displaying NYSC uniform and made in Aba Shoes? If I were in his shoes I will engage my peers who are performing to borrow a leaf from them. Isn't it in Abia State that we saw a Reverend Father markinh his birthday in a heap of refuse dump just to draw the world's attention to the sanitary condition of the state. Didn't we all watch a certain documentary that showed the terrible state of roads in Aba with commercial bus drivers customizing their buses by repositoning their radiators just to swim through the pot holes. Abia State Governor has no business issuing awards to anybody rather he should compel the federal government to come to their aid. he should place an SOS call to the president.

  22. Sometimes it's good to double check. Enyi= Friend or Elephant, Oha = All. There's no variation of igbo language from Abakaliki to Asaba that translates Oha as Great. So, I don't think they gave him the title "Elephant of All" because it doesn't make sense.

    1. Good observation but hey igbo language like many other languages cannot be translated literally therefore your approach could be wrong. In languages pronunciations matters alot. EnyĆ = elephant while enyƬ = friend. But i tell you as long as igbo title taking is concerned it's most likely the title given to mr President was enyĆ= elephant. Then the argument that it could possibly be translated as elephant of the people and therefore rules out its possibility could again be wrong. As EnyĆ = elephant signifies strength, size, weight, greatness. Therefore it won't be out of place to say ENYƍ+OHA means great elephant but like i said it's important to hear the pronunciation to know if they meant enyĆ=elephant or enyƬ=friend. But one thing is sure you can't say someone is wrong cos his translation wasn't literal.
