Mother of six throws her newborn baby in soak-away in Bauchi state due to poverty

The Bauchi State Police Command arrested a mother of 6, Mrs Juliana James, from Guru village in Bauchi State, for throwing her one-day-old newborn baby into a soak-away shortly after she delivered the baby at home.

The suspect cried after she was arrested and paraded at the command’s headquarters in Bauchi on Friday.

The newborn whose cry attracted neighbours, was rescued alive after being in there for nearly over 12 hours.

The baby was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa University Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
James said she threw her baby away due to her husband losing his job and the economic hardship in the country.

She said:
“Things are hard. My husband has no job. He had an accident three months ago and it affected his manhood. He is still in the hospital receiving treatment. We don’t see food to eat. We are dying of starvation.
“I delivered at home and threw the baby in the toilet because I don’t know how we are going to take care of it. I didn’t tell my husband.”
Addressing newsmen, Commissioner of Police in the state, Zaki Ahmed, said the case was being investigated, revealing that the baby had been handed over to social welfare officers at the hospital.

  1. Buh it is d same Olympic fallen manhood dat he will still use impregnant u again n again. If u hav d sense to no dat there is no money after the baby has arrived why nt use d same sense to no dat there is no money before making d babies. Poverty n illiteracy is a serious disease, period.

  6. It is not poverty, it is wickedness. She could have given the baby to an orphanage.

  7. Why? This one is evil... give it to childless couples instead of dumping the baby that way.

  8. No excuse Madam! You have no love in your heart! You are not fit to be a mother! Put the child up for adoption! Drop him/her at a church, sit on the road and beg for alms! Oh, there are many options rather than murder! So sad how poverty can twist the mind wickedly!

    3. All I see here is people judging this woman like they are pure and perfect.look I'm not in support of what she did in fact there is no reason enough to justify what she did but it could be anyone.nobody knows what state of mind she was in when she decided to do that.Have we asked ourselves why a woman with six children would do a thing like that? Please instead of judging her we should be thinking of how to help her and others who might be going through the same hardship in order for this not to happen again. We are just so quick to judge people common.

    4. Yeah.. no need to judge. She probably suffered post-partum depression. Considering all her predicaments, she was just overwhelmed with another soul to Carter for. It's a pity. Lord have mercy on us.
