Tumba said the airline has been grappling with paying the salaries of these workers as well as servicing its overhead cost. He says this is not sustainable for the airline.
“The issuance of notification of redundancy is a business decision that will ensure Aero’s survival. The current situation where over a thousand people are basically not engaged due to lack of serviceable aircraft is not sustainable for the airline. The huge monthly salary associated with a bloated workforce will eventually kill the airline, which is not the intention of the current government. This decision will immediately reduce the whopping operational cost, which has been stifling Aero; enable the management bring in more aircraft through savings from overheads and pay for C-checks. It will also enable Aero have a more manageable and committed workforce in line with international best practices of 50 to 60 personnel to one aircraft unlike what obtains in Aero at the moment”the statement read According to Tumba, those in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and other important staff in critical departments would not be affected.

ReplyDeleteThis information is misleading & mischievous, am an Aero staff, I need to state the true position of things. Aero was taken over by AMCON via a fraudulent bargain with Cecilia Ibru & her Son Obaro. They embezzled the money Aero had with oceanic Capital, remember she was arrested when she MD of Oceanic bank. Then she claimed that she used the stolen money to buy 5 aeroplanes for Aero, she also diverted Aero's contract to topbrass, an airline she started from Aero. Amcon came to resuscitate Aero, but ended up embezzling more from Aero via corrupt deals. In short time, Amcon inflated the dept, increased their shares to 100% & then took over the airline completely. Pls. Note that Amcon has never revived any company they go to because they are bunch of criminals, they embezzle Federal government's money for their personal interest. When they came to Aero contractors, the airline had more than 13 aeroplanes & 5 helicopters but today only 2 aeroplanes & 1 helicopter is serviceable. The question is why, because Amcon started siphoning money from Aero; they took the profits & refused to invest money for the efficient operation of the aircrafts, staff salaries was delayed, since September last year they haven't paid salaries, several years no promotion, staff were working & suffering. Innocent people who didn't do anything wrong than applying & working for Aero. remember that the staff number was because the airline had many aircrafts, because Amcon deliberately grounded almost all the aircrafts, they came with an idea of sacking people by flimsy reasons, that didn't help them either, they decided to embark on redundancy, that people should volunteer proceed on indefinite leave without pay pending when things improve. The three unions told them that there is procedure for redundancy based on the company's policy & labour laws. They suspended the union chairmen to intimidate them, after much dragging, they closed the aeroplane division & left the helicopter because they knew it wasn't going to be easy for them. Sequel to the intervention of the minister of state for aviation & the Senate committee on aviation, they reopened by December. & continued negotiations with the unions which was later agreed & signed but was far less than the standard compared with the last redundancy that was done in 2008. Now they haven't paid the severity allowance for redundancy, they haven't updated the staff pension & gratuity since March last year, they haven't paid salaries since September & they are dispatching sack letters to innocent staff & citizens of this country in this inflation so that when we react, they will bribe the police to arrest us. They should realize that the ripple effect of their evil acts can lead to sabotage thereby endangering the life of innocent Nigerians. These Amcon people lack conscience, they lack common sense, I think they are influenced by evil spirits, otherwise why can't they see. Amcon Employed an idiot to give a misleading information on the media but it will soon tell on them. Linda pls investigate & correct this misleading impression.

ReplyDeleteAero has been doomed years back, but patching their lapses until they had to make some top staffs go on 3months compulsory leave after sacking some already. Like anon 16:27 said, Some Ibru fam members embezzled and ruined that company...What I don't understand is, is this last year's news or recent?
