3rd Mainland Suicide: "I wish I was able to stop him, I wish he could tell me what the problem is" Shocked witness writes

An Instagram user who witnessed the shocking moment the unidentified medical doctor got out of his car and jumped into the Lagoon is still reeling from shock. What she wrote below:
"I witnessed the worst thing ever today!! The owner of this particular car jumped into the lagoon right in front of me!!! I saw him get out of his car, then jumped, I was directly behind him, I parked and ran as fast as my legs could carry me but it was too late..... I wish he had waited a little longer, I wish I was able to stop him, I wish I was about to hold his hands, I wish he could tell me what the problem was!!!!! Depression is real...... I couldn't believe my eyes, I'm still in shock, I couldn't control my tears. I ran after him I tried to save him I called for help. Suicide is not the answer!!!!! It's a pity a problem shared isn't a problem solved anymore it's a problem gossiped about...... we now live in a world where negativity is like 90%. I really wish I was able to save him. Loads of people stopped because they saw me acting like a crazy woman, the ambulance was present, the fishermen were trying to help but it was too late!!!!! He left a note on his personalized Dr's notepad with his house address. May God help his family though this difficult time. Please, let's be our brothers keeps. Let's genuinely love and help one another. Life is short. We are here for just a little time. Let's spend that time spreading love and being kind to one another!"

  6. Yea, depression is real. But it's a pity that in Nigeria we don't take mental health seriously. We don't even take the warning signs of a suicidal person seriously. I guess he thought he could get help from church...he probably should have gone to a trained psychiatric doctor, but then people would think he is mad...but there are different types of mental illness...not just that of the 'mad' people we see roaming the streets.

I can imagine the shock the woman would have been in immediately after witnessing the man jump off the bridge.

  11. Hmmm... This is indeed very sad and pathetic. People should try and be strong no matter what they are going through. The other day a pharmacist committed suicide after a quarrel with his wife. I hate these ugly stories. Suicide should NEVER be an option no matter the circumstance.

  14. May his soul rest in Peace. Mental illness does not mean a person is crazy - that is insanity - it merely means they are not well like one with a headache, cancer, diabetes etc. They can get better if we try our best. Sometimes love and kindness work better than medication.

  16. So so sad indeed! Truly a problem shared has become a gossip topic. Still, there are Christian counsellors in various churches; they don't need to know your identity.I urge you all to be born again; if one is truly born again the enemy can't have a way to enter to still a beautiful life. This man was living other people's dream, yet the devil had his way. He took care of others but never got care for himself. Please let us to love one another, express it, smile, enquire after someone, let us genuinely care for one another

  19. Depression is real people. When people talk to u( became vulnerable about their psychological disorientation) pls don't spite them or gossip about it. You will be killing them the more and they will hate u for it.

When they tell u try to be of help and if you can't help just show concern either by being around them (you don't need to talk at time. Staying silence but being around them might help)

May God help us. No health is greater than mental health. May God heal every souls that are troubled, hurt, broken. May God bring hope and light to the dead and dark areas of every shadowed souls
    Amen

  34. At some point the burden is heavy and we are all equipped to cope with it differently. Attempted suicide when I was 19 and my sister saved me. Have been free since then but it was close. Let's try and be there for one another you never know when a word said in season brings someone back from the brink. May his family have the strength and fortitude to get through this.

  40. This is just too sad...often time I wonder why people here in Nigeria study psychology if not to have permanent offices, where issues that one can not discuss with your religious leaders/friends and family, but rather to a complete stranger whom your secret sessions is guided by laws prohibiting the "psychologist" from revealing, thus, making the person feel lighter and relieved off the burden...i sure pray for miracle for this guy.

It's terrible when you can't find someone to help you especially when you have good intentions.Since last month I've been looking for help and nobody is ready to help.Feeding myself and my kids have become a problem, last week I had to beg for foodstuffs to feed my kids, fear will not even allow me to discuss it with some people because of how they will handle it.Even loan of 20k to start a business you won't get.we're so mean towards one another these days.it's so so sad. But I thank God for life because when there's life, there's hope.

    1. To anon 00:18,I feel your pain. This is what millions of Nigerians are passing through every day. The solution lies with the Govt. If they could only have the Sympathy of the common man, things would have been different. They have the Resources at their disposal to provide jobs for millions of Nigerians by embarking on rebuilding Nigeria with massive projects in construction of all roads, bridges, hospitals, schools and other social amenities that would benefit all. If they are serious, this could be done and millions would benefit. China, japan and some Arab countries have done it and so we can too.

  52. This intagrammer's story get k-leg.

He or she gives the impression the victim was alone. YET from what we gathered from the other article here in LIB, ha was accompanied by his driver. And to get out of the car, he asked his driver to stop the car by the side.

Obviously, it's the driver that let the competent autorities know this guy's profession and whence he was coming and NOT a suicide note as this intagrammer is claiming.

Or maybe, we are missing something !

  59. Psychiatrists all over the world have come to a consensus that the medical practice is one profession bereft with all sorts that drive practitioners out of their mind and suicides are recorded in the Western world but to believe that a Medical Doctor stopped his Driver just like that on the 3rd Mainland Bridge and jumped? There's more to the story then hits the ear drums and certainly meets the eyes. If the thing easy like that some of us for don jump, with what we have been through with this work in Lagos. Like we say in medicine, you can never say never sha. Only God truly protects, else Principality and Powerless powers no go let people drink water.
