'Go and do your worst. Am I the person that closed your school?' - Oyo State Governor, Ajimobi taunts protesting LAUTECH students

Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), located in Oyo state, have been protesting the closure of their institution in the last eight months. A video has emerged showing Governor Abiola Ajimobi rudely addressing the student protesters, because they were reluctant to listen to any further excuse. Watch after the cut...

  23. It's beyond sad, that we have fallen to this level. Yes, the students were unruly (what do you expect when they've been away from school for 8 months). Nevertheless, it takes a true leader (more so, an elected one) to wisely solve problems like this). I'm truly ashamed...

Linda am I bit disappointed abt ur use of words, in the African culture an elder is never rude to a younger one, the students were very unruly, did u watch d video, they were insulting him to his face, dir behavior is so appalling. How can u answer d governor of a state who asked a question what course is that one studying they replied book, some said accounting, the older generation must never suffer insolence in d upcoming ones. 1. Pst Adegboye ..You are an ignoramus. Instead of thanking God for using mediums like Linda's blog to expose the irresponsibility of our leaders you are attacking her. Do you know what social contract is? Do you understand the fact that a government is in a social contract with its citizens and if it fails to provide security, infrastracture, education etc that it has violated its part of the contract and the citizens have the right to protest?Do you fool know that the most powerful office in a democracy is that of the citizen? The governor is employed by the people and that is the meaning of democracy....If the older generation has failed then they must face the consequences of their actions. Its called cause and effect. In a civilized society that governor would be impeached the next day. Elder and governor my black fucking nyash. 8 months of underdeveloping the brains of the youth and his asking for respect? Otu gbawa kwa nne ya....I bet his childten are abroad and he has bought houses for various concubines. Scam elder. Is a corrupt person regarded as an elder in any society? Nigerians and its leadership make me sick....Gosh..The mentality of people like you Pst Adefool is what we need to eradicate for Nigeria to bcome a progressive nation. Pastor nshi na ahu

    4. Please can someone tell this silly pastor Temitope adegboye to keep quiet forever. This is one of the major challenges we have in this country, foolish leaders in politics and churches who
Consider themselves demi gods. I can't see what age has got to do with this very key issue, this is what happens in a country where respect for elders suppresses accountability.

    5. @Akande: so let me ask you a question: do you give your father your tuition fee to help keep it after working some job or starting up small (if he couldn't afford to provide it for you) and when he refuses to pay your fee for a term after 8 months you go to him calmly. We Nigerians love using analogy just like you did and yet forget to paint the exact picture of what is happening. The Comment from an anonymous on this post is actually true. This man doesn't even know what to be empathic means. They are asking for their right since they've made their payment. His stupidity makes it look like they going to school is a privilege which is what a lot of our leaders often think. They feel they are doing us a favour.

  64. Very pathetic on the part of the governor. The students could have been rude but wisdom demands that the governor as an elder statements handle the situation intelligently. Imagine all the insults that Obama/GEJ got while in office without responding in this manner. Kudos to Prof Wande Abimbola former VC OAU, who was able to diffuse student unrest of greater magnitude. This is what happens when leaders don't need the electorate anymore. Would Ajimobi have reacted like this before his 2nd term election. The fact that schools were closed in time past, does not give the governor the audacity to repeat the same. As the governor have requested, the students can respond by voting wisely next election. Did anybody realize that the governors medium of communication is not appropriate. These are students who are taught in English. It would have been better for the governor to address the students in English, considering the some students might not understand his Yoruba. The governor also referred to constituted authority - meaning after your votes, I am in charge and you don't matter anymore. There is God oooooo.

  68. This is really sad. And to think this is the same issue happening with government workers in oyo despite the fact that Buhari has disbursed money to 36 States for payment of state workers. This are the kind of leaders who have the mindset that they are doing the people a favour. It's written all over him displaying such arrogance, pride, rudeness and above all stupidity. Not even a trace of empathy in the man yet his daughter schools abroad and spends lavishly. How can you tell people to do their worse? If this sparks outrage of students in the state now he'll act like he's unaware of the consequences of his foolishness. Personally I think he's a thug. The annoying thing is Buhari would act like he's not aware of this despite the fact that he reads newspapers daily. I really don't believe in this administration at all.

But then, what do you expect from these touts & thugs who have manipulated their ways into positions of power in nigeria? The nicompoop was even attempting to have a student arrested. So stupid it never for a second occurred to him that singular act could have had dire consequences.
