Jonathan ignored my warning about recession, ‘reckless’ spending – Obasanjo

Former President Obasanjo yesterday said the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan, ignored all his warning of an impending recession and the effects of reckless spending which he saw in the past government. Obasanjo made the accusation while speaking at a lecture organised by the Youth Fellowship of Owu Baptist Church, Abeokuta to mark Nigeria’s Independence Day anniversary.

“Unemployment is a major problem in the country today and if we don’t take care, it will consume all of us. In fact, the rising unemployment is a time bomb. Whoever that has lived to witness the celebration of today should thank God. Things are not what they should be, but we should pray that next year will be better than this year. We thank God for those who are alive, we prayed for the souls of those who have labored for this country and who have passed on to rest in perfect peace”he said

  9. Rubbish talk. Pls sir call a spade a spade and not a cutlass. Who is responsible for the recession Buhari or Jonathan?. Who caused the govt. to spend the money they would saved for the rainy day? The governors led by Amaechi who ironically is a minister in this administration. I simply cannot see why you heap the blame on someone who led govt. more than a year ago and leave out those presently in govt.

    1. And u have never asked urself y did govs not force Obj to spend money meant for the rainy days? If Obj had finished d treasury what would GEJ and his cohorts have used to run his govt? Now he left very little in the treasury, with dwindling oil prices, and the activities of criminal elements that call themselves Avengers and u seriously expect PMB to do magic? It's u that should call a spade a spade!

  20. Was Jonathan the reason why Amechi spent all the money in Rivers state to sponsor Buhari? Was Jonathan the reason why you stole the country silly and wanted a third tenure? Was Jonathan the reason Buhari put his clueless nephews and Daura clan who don't know A from B? Old man "respek" your old age and put your family in order. I guess Jonathan also was the reason why you slept with your son's wife. Old papa youngie always looking for attention.

    Dear Obj,
The Money you wasted on the Power Sector and the 3rd Term Agenda if Probed into by your Boy Buhari is enough to salvage this Country.
If Buhari can continue to expand Jonathan's Rail Project, maintain the Universities that Jonathan's Administration Built alongside the old ones and add another 2000 Mega Watts to the 2000 Jonathan provided in 5 Years, Nigeria will become an Investment Haven. But People like you will never let Nigeria grow. You had a verbal deal with Jonathan and Yar Adua of blessed Memory to go into Aso Rock as your Politically annointed Sons so as to become a defacto President thereby but they had their own ideas. Please stop all this Jonathan. Buhari met Naira at 200 Per Dollar, if he had hit the ground running, constituting a good Economic Team that would initiate a Solid Monetary Policy, the Naira would not have been in a Mess. His First 6 Months was a Mirage of a 1 Man Government that he was used to, completely full of inactivity. That 6 Months was enough to loose a grip on the Naira.
