Present recession is as a result of failure in the past to plan and save for difficult times- President Buhari

President Buhari has said that the recent economic recession being experienced is as a result of cumulative effects of worldwide economic downturn and failure in the past to plan and save for difficult times. According to him, it is impossible to separate the present from the past to appreciate the extent to which mistakes of the past are affecting everyday life today. President Buhari said this in his Sallah message to Nigerians. Read the full text below
Fellow Compatriots, as you celebrate the Eid-El-Kabir, I salute your steadfastness in spite of the difficult economic times the country is going through. The lessons of the Eid are piety and sacrifice and, my dear brothers and sisters, you have exhibited these in equal measure.
The present recession is as a result of cumulative effects of worldwide economic downturn and failure in the past to plan and save for difficult times. It is impossible to separate the present from the past to appreciate the extent to which mistakes of the past are affecting everyday life today.

I assure you that this administration is working round the clock to remove the hardships the country is going through. Rail and road constructions, projects in the housing sector, support for farmers and for small and medium scale industries, youth and women's empowerment programmes, support for revival of industries are all designed to reinvigorate the economy and enhance living standards of ordinary people.
We are getting security right. We are stopping corruption in its tracks and we will get the economy right by the Grace of God.

I enjoin Muslims to live by the dictates of Islam, to keep good relationships with their Christian brothers and sisters and as patriots to maintain the spirit of the Nigerian nation.
I wish everyone happy holidays.

Muhammadu Buhari

    5. I believe you sir. PDP looted the country dry. Recession is happening in most countries not just Nigeria. It is a global recession because oil prices dropped but those countries saved for the rainy day while PDP looted and destroyed our economy. I will rather vote for APGA if there is no APC than vote for PDP come 2019

    7. Nigerian's elected you because they felt GEJ was not doing well. If all you can do is to keep telling them how bad GEJ was, then maybe you should resign and let us go shopping again. Obviously, you're not the solution to our problems.

    6. That statement can be faulted in many ways and if you stop hiding behind your anonymous ID, you might be have the courage to admit that... there is no global economic downturn sir, just a fall in crude prices which accounts for only 12% of our annual GDP. What has this administration done in mining, industry, trade, finances, entertainment, agriculture etc. This A PC government is too selfish to to even admit their wrongs. As you may recall, 30 outstanding Nigerians with brilliant ideas capable of moving us forward as a country selected out of thousands after publicly held pitches a cross Nigeria were presented to at the villa on the second of this month for support... all the government did was shake them and tell them weldone.

Way out for PMB is to reshuffle his present cabinet and bring in professionals to man our economic team and ministries. And go down to niger delta and appeal to them and restore their benefits he halted. Thirdly take a firm stand on herdsmen and drop his tribalistic xters and be a father to all nigerians by doing proper and godly allocation to every zone in our yearly budget. No nation progresses when it's topmost leader leads with complete bad mind.

  23. Naija's economic downtime is caused majorly by APC unguided utterances and their quest to have power without preparing adequately for it. They used everything at their disposal to gain power but without planning on how to govern if they eventually win. Now they are confused without any other option than blaming the past adminstation. They bastardized the image of the country thinking they are fighting opposite not knowing they doing more evil than good to the country.
