Photos: Meet Michelle Ekure, a female graduate turned shoemaker

Michelle Ekure, from Delta State is a graduate of International Studies and Diplomacy from the University of Benin. Michelle went into shoe making six years after searching for a job to no avail.
"My inspiration is from God, I never knew I would be a shoemaker. I graduated from the University six years ago, after which I looked for for job, but to know avail," she said in an interview with Lukmon of Wazobia Global Times USA.
"At sometimes I got employed by a company in Lagos, but the boss was owing too much so I left. On how it started, there is this other company I buy sandals in Lagos and resell. They sell nice shoes, so one day I thought to myself that I can tell this people to make sandals for me with my label, so I approached them and they said yes. That was how I got my first set of shoes. Then a friend introduced me to a guy that makes shoes. I watch him make shoes one day and I was amazed then I asked him to teach me and he did."

Michele's makes around 50 pairs of shoes a week and has 6 apprentices working for her. Her advice for young ladies still looking for jobs:
"I always tell people I come in contact with that are looking for job to start something, anything you are good at can bring money to you or just learn a trade.

  18. Your title is insulting. There are millions of graduates all over the world who went to the best colleges for shoe making. Some of the best institutions teach shoe making and other related degree programs. I should know.

Yes, "The Graduate" Michelle Ekure has photographed a nice pair of shoes ... it's too bad because the same can not be said of her written English.

    1. My thoughts exactly. If she writes like that, what employer of labor would want to take her on? She and her types are the reasons why the values of education keeps going down.
And we only see the photo of a single shoe that looks like it's factory finished.

There are alot small manufacturing business ideas that Nigerians can take advantage of, for them to have a smiling face even in this Nigerian economic downturn

  43. Bean clark, i never met you in IDS 2009/2010 class, but i did know of Michelle. Am sure you are using a pseudo name here. But that your claim that Michelle never graduated is very serious and subject to investigation.

  44. Cecelia James from get it right nigeria it's me osazee osabuohien Michelle didn't graduate with us she was our class mate but she didn't graduate. Now u knw me

  45. Osazee Osabuohien, am highly disappointed in you, that you attempt to drag down an honest hard working youth like yourself simply because according to you she didnt graduate at the same time with you... what does it really matter if we all graduated at the same time or not? after all some people spill and return to complete their courses and receive their certificates, and that my dear Osas doesnt make them drop outs. Moreover, i don't know what job you obtain with your certificate, i am yet to get any employment using even my master degree certificate. am sure if you still live in Nigeria, you should know there are no jobs in this country, unless for those who are connected to the Sanusis and Buharis; or those who are willing to do the unimaginable to give themselves a way forward. So my dear, osazee osabuohien pls hold your that your "she did not graduate with us" fire and let Michelle be, shes is hard working and dedicated to work she does. i have followed up her progress on the shoe-making since she started, and am really proud of her progress and you too ought to be. you of all people should know better than attempt to rubbish her genuine efforts; so pls lets encourage good effort and progress. Weldon Michelle, i still owe you that free promo i promised you on www.getitrightnigerians.com so whenever you need me to do your placement, you know what to do girl.
