For Pastors Who Want to be called Father/Daddy- Reno Omkri

Pastors who allow congregants call them father/daddy should consider what Jesus said 2000 years ago in Matthew 23:9. Continue after the cut...

    2. People n misinterpretation. The father here means God. Just like as d bible says, I am a jealous God, thou shall not have any other God except me. So this verse simply means u should not worship any man, or take any man as him being d father. U only hv one God(father) not dat u can't call ur biological father, father. Or that u can't use title father for whoever deserves it. What of wen u want to address an elderly man dat u don't know his name... we still use d word father, baba, papa...for we to understand d bible we really need Holy spirit to direct us. Not just by opening our mouth to talk. Thank u

  3. What a misconception! Oga Omokirikiri, I bet to differ! If that is the case your children shouldn't call you father as they have a father in heaven too. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the title, they're our spiritual fathers whom we see on earth...

    1. The main problem is that most Christians do not under the significance of the sacrifice made by Jesus on the cross. When Jesus died on the cross, the veil in the tabernacle tore from top to bottom giving all who believe direct access to God and eliminating the need for chief priests who were the only ones that could go behind the veil to intercede on people's behave prior to this. It means you can talk to God, cry to him, praise him directly, not through any pastor or priest.

  6. Omokirikiri i would advise you seek the help of the Holy Spirit for a clearer understanding of the Word, you don't interpret it based on human knowledge... #Misconception

    1. Uju, if "holy spirit" told you that Jesus was not referring to spiritual leaders then who was he admonishing Christians not to refer to as father?

The preceding verses, 1 to 8 clearly points out that Jesus was referring to the scribes and Pharisees- religious leaders. He went on to remind them that they all were brothers. So no one deserved to be called Teacher, Father ect...

If you lack understanding of basic scriptural truth, how then will you grasp solid/deep bible teaching when you are still struggling with something as simple as this?!!!

    8. Receive sense! It's talking about "spiritual" father! Not ordinary biological father! Yes, you can refer to your biological father as "father" but only God almighty in heaven shall you call your Father cos he's the only one that's your spiritual father not that sinner in your church that's using psychology on you!

    10. Anon 7:16, if you think Mathew 23:9 doesn't apply to pastors than pls tell us what Jesus meant or shut the heck up. U counter what Reno said without giving a basis why you disagree.
Its obvious you are one of those who call your pastor daddy so you get on the offensive without even reasoning on what that verse means. This is how a lot of people reject sound scriptural truth because they can't accept that what they practice or believe is unscriptural. This was the attitude that blinded the scribes and Pharisees to the truth that Jesus was the Messiah and they rejected him.

When scriptural truth is brought to our attention, God expects us to search the bible and see if what we are being told is true. If indeed it is than a wise and honest-hearted person will drop what he formally believed or practiced and cling to the truth.

  22. Una no gree say na 1 father na. Na 3 fathers una dey talk say e dey for 1 so what are we talking about. People just turn the bible unpside down over the years confusing everything with their own thought. Alot Christians didn't even know that Jesus christ never spoke english or came across anything like english in his life time, alot think that the bible was even written in english where the original language of christ has no alphabet as "J" instead is "Y". So how come he's been called Jesus instead where there's to no sound like J in Aramaic or Hebrew.

    ReplyDelete
  23. People can interpret Bible as they chooses.. In that particular verse father in that context means God.. In other words "don't call anybody God, for you have one God, who is in heaven...father is jst a title..when I call someone father I knw exactly what I mean.. And I can call different people father or dad at different occasions...

    2. Sapphire u re d only one making sense here. My same thought. D father dere simply means God. That's y God said he's a jealous God dat we should never hv any other god but him. Not just calling someone father, but don't call or worship or take any other person as ur father (God) nt wat ppl re saying here.

  24. nobody is turning the bible up side down.....read between the lines "mr anonymous"...the bible said do not "address" anyone as father.

  25. This doesn't apply to your earthly father, calling someone who's ordained and is supposed to spiritually guide you "father" is what this verse is against.for only God in heaven is your spiritual father.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous, your comment is silly. God knows that you are fathered by a man and he cannot bar you from calling him father on earth.

What God means in Math 23:9 is calling human 'father or daddy' in the spiritual sense, which is like contesting the position with God as he alone is the father of all men spiritually.

It is you that is turning the bible up-side-down, so please be careful.

  31. If we take your allusion "hook line and sinker" then our biological father should not in anyway be called father.pls don't read the Bible in isolation. There is a context in which Christ used that statement he was referring to the Pharisees and scribes who wanted to be adored and worshipped, moving around with their philateries, being showy of the faith and directing attention to themselves rather than God who calls, the one they are working for. They were carried away by the external and honours instead of worshipping in Spirit and in Truth.Remember Christ gave his apostles authority to loose and bound things on earth and to continue his mission. If truly a man of God acts in the person of Christ, being Christlike there is no crime with that. Your calling him or not calling him those names changes nothing. It neither reduces nor add to his anointing. Neither should the man of God be so preoccupied with titles and names, salvation of souls should be his or her mantra. Nonetheless, to whom it has been given u can't take it away from him.

  48. You can as well term it to mean I shouldn't call my biological father, "Father" or "daddy" since the word said "call no one on earth father" ogbeni, find better things to talk about and stop twisting the word of God to shade men of God,there are consequences, remember in the same bible some children were torn apart bcuz they called a man of God a baldie.! Be wise! And remove the log in your own eye 1st. B4 seeing the one in another's.

  49. I concur with Reno on this. Why should anyone call his or her pastor, daddy. That's what makes these pastors turn their members into dummies, that before they eat, accept a job offer or have sex with their partner, their pastor must know. These pastor manipulate their lives that some even start bearing the name of their pastor. Example is Pastor King . Christians should stop hero-worshiping their pastors, they are human, stop making them fee like they are super-human.....It sucks

    ReplyDelete
  50. Reno is only a fundamentalist Christian who only read the surface of the Bible and not knowing the context but do not know the spirit behind the letter. The whole Bible is filled with people referring to people of earlier times who where role model as their fathers in faith. For example - the Israelites consider Abraham as their father in faith... Elisha, considered Elijah as his father in the line of prophethood and in the new testament Paul called Timothy his son - 1 Timothy 1:2 To Timothy my true son in the faith: Grace...

What Jesus was condemning giving the place of God to a human being. That you so much respect a human being above the law and adoration of God. And rightly many pastor following Christians follow every whim of their pastors and would put aside the commands of God because pastor say so.

  51. Mumu , so cos bible said that now , u won't address ur papa "FATHER too

  61. That's the problem you see when the Bible is read out of context.

When you read Matt 23:1-9 Jesus was speaking of the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, they do things only to be praised by men, they love to be seen by people, they impose laws they themselves don't abide by, such leaders, don't honor them, they don't qualify as a spiritual leader.

No that don't call anyone your Father.

Paul called Timothy My Son Timothy Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
    1 Timothy:1:2

So if Paul calls him Son, what will Timothy call him?

    ReplyDelete
  62. @ Anonymous (Kevin). May the LORD have mercy on you for daring to insult HIS vessel (Pastor E.A. Adeboye). Be careful what you say because you will be held accountable for every careless word you speak. Read Numbers 12: 1-10 and see what happened to Miriam for daring to speak ill against Moses (A prophet of GOD) her younger Brother.

Also the Bible explicitly states in Psalms 105:15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Almost all that are against his post are complaining about what it doesn't mean, why not not explain what it means if he is not right. The expression there is clearly about spiritual father and all should desist from referring to their pastors by that term. That's the Bible we are talking about... Pls place it above your traditions, for only your traditions can be wrong and not the Bible.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yes he was talking of the hypocrisy of the pharisees, so explain the meaning of his statement?
You believe psalm 105:15 is explicit and yet you don't think Matt 23:9 is explicit... Hmmmm. Stop interpreting the Bible to suit your traditions.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Plus there is nothing insulting in his words, he just quoted the Holy scriptures... And attacking him.... Explain the meaning of that scripture if you understand it better.
