Lagos to experience blackout today- Transmission Company of Nigeria

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, Lagos Region, has announced that many parts of the state will experience total blackout between 10am and 1pm today July 18th. According to a statement by the company's Public Relations Officer, Celestina Osin, the blackout will occur while the technical team carry out an urgent maintenance work on the Akangba 132KV transmission substation.

Areas that will be affected includes Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Alagbon, Apapa, Ijora, Surulere, Itire, Oshodi, Mushin; the Nigerian Airforce Base, Shogunle, and their environs. The statement in part reads
"The reason for the planned outage is to enable the MBH Contractor carry out a very important repair work on the Itire 132KV Transmission Line 1 and the Ojo 132KV Transmission Line 2 from which the areas are fed electricity for better service to them.
During the period the outage will last, the 4X90 MVA power transformers and another 150MVA power transformer will be out of service at the Akangba 132KV substation in order to provide a safe working space for the workers.
We promise to restore supply to all the affected areas as soon as the work is concluded. “We sincerely apologise for the short notice on the outage and regrets inconveniences this will cause all that will be affected.”.

  12. Why wasting money making this announcement pretending to be efficient. We are used to power outage lasting several days, sometimes weeks. Three hours will go unnoticed.

  21. Linda pls ask why they are apologising bicos we have always experienced constant blackout in some parts of Oshodi from Shigunke, Ladipo, Bello. Olatunji, Arowojobe. Duran Alaje, Ogundele etc no power supply. They only give us power supply once in a month. The other parts of Oshodi gas 24hrs uninterrupted power supply, places like the Oshodi market, Church Street and environs, pls help us ask Ikdcaee they collecting bribe from the market women. They simply sold our supply to them leaving majority to suffer. Thus issue should be looked into, it is very sad and unfair to the masses. Honestly people are riding others. The ikeja distribution company staff in Oshodi region should be probed from their managers to the junior staff, they are receiving another salary in form of constant bribe from the market.linda pls help raise this matter as another topic Biko, people are suffering. I live in Oshodi, we spend a lot of money to run our generators it is very disheartening.

  22. Linda pls make the Oshodi power saga's comments visible for the masses sake. People are suffering zero powersupply in some areas in Oshodi while others have constant supply. How sad.

For more than 5 months now, I have not seen light in ladipo oshodi, last month, they brought it and I thought it was for real but it stayed for five minutes and it was gone. I was able to ask one nepa official who told me that it's bcuz we didn't have light for 2 months straight and they brought bill and instead of us to pay, the boys on the street chased them back so for that they have decided to keep their light. I asked him, shey una nor know the people wen dey own una ni? Make una go cut their light now and he replied and said, if we come, dem go beat us.
