Chinese supermarket actually barred Nigerians from shopping -says Journalist Jaafar Jaafar

According to Nigerian journalist Jaafar Jaafar, the Chinese supermarket barred Nigerians from shopping after a robbery attack. (Read previous post here). See his post below:
"There was public outcry after a citizen reporter recently raised alarm in a Facebook post that a Chinese shop at Gwarimpa Estate barred Nigerians from shopping. A good friend of mine and bosom friend of the Chinese community in Nigeria, Mohammad Jamu, followed up the report and came up a different perspective. Writing in defense of his Chinese friends, Jamu wrote what was more of a script of Dankwairo's praise poetry than a piece of journalism.
You'd draw the ire of professional reputation managers if you call it press release. When I raised doubt over his version of the story, Mohammed Jamu immediately called me and later took me to the shop to see for myself yesterday. MY FINDINGS/CONCLUSION One Hausa proverb says that if you are bitten by a snake, you become paranoid whenever you see a rope. From what I understood, the shopowners actually banned Nigerians from patronising the shop after a robbery attack. "Take a drink," the shop owner said as a female attendant brought a glass carafe filled with hot concoction. "We are fasting," we replied in unison.
The owner of the shop first narrated the armed robbery incident that left him and his wife injured. I asked the shopkeeper, his wife and the security guards several questions and drew inference that the initial account is actually true. But when the first report went viral, and Daily Trust made a follow up, they realised the implications of the decision to ban Nigerians. They quickly lifted the ban, issued a notice and invited their Nigerian friend to whitewash their action. Glad they quickly realise the implications of introducing apartheid in Nigeria"

    1. Finally! Someone gets it. Can you just imagine. I can't deal. I would have shut them down if I had the power to do so, at least for 90 solid days and fine them big time . I wish our govt officials would wake up. On our own soil? In 2016?... I just can't deal.

  12. This shop in question is managed by my friend and his Nigerian wife, he said that after many armed robbery attacks that left them injured in some cases, they had so raise their security awareness and tighten the security around their premises. By so doing some individuals were barred entry into the shop, not a ban on Nigerians as earlier reported.

    3. How does he intend to identify the individuals that were banned. Was the nigerian citizen that was barred earlier part of the "some individuals"? Can he guarantee that he won't be robbed again even after barring nigerians from entering? Don't be stupid abeg.

  16. But seriously who do we have to blame if foreigners can weild such powers in nigeria?we gave them the impression that we cannot build businesses in our own country.we welcome ever foreign tom dick and Harry to open whatever buisness they desire and we patronise them endlessly forgetting our very own nationales.if they were robbed and injured in China will they ban the Chinese from coming to shop there?or are they no robbers in china?to nigerians foreign is better na,if it's made in nigeria it's fake!una never see anything.a day is coming when nigerians won't be allowed to drive on their own roads,in their own country.keep buying japanese cars and German machines and enriching other countries while innoson cars are being termed as "made in aba".rubbish.

  18. Nigerians should not tolorate racism in their land. I can assure you that 1/4 of what this people do in Nigeria Nigerians can't do in their country period. DON'T ALLOW IT! The problem with Nigerians is that once the foreigner is a friend to one big man or a journalist they cover up for them, they will watch this people treat their country men like slaves in their land, that is very shameful.

  25. You see the problem we have in Nigeria? See some people saying it's their biz, some , I don't care while people like Bonario are justifying the bullshit . Kai we have suffered . That is why we will never move forward in this country . When will we ever stand up for our rights? In our own very country one Chinese will have the guts to say no Nigerians in his shop and we agree and understand why. Kai I fell like eating shit right now. Where is our government?
