Young mother of two allegedly beaten to death by her husband this morning at their home in Egbeda

Ronke Bewaji Shonde (pictured above) was allegedly beaten to death by her husband this morning May 6th at their home at Tiemo Crescent off Awori street in Egbeda Lagos. According to family friend who reached out to LIB, Ronke and her husband had a fight in the early hours of this morning at their home while their kids were sleeping. One neighbour later said he heard the noise coming from their flat early this morning but didn't think it was something horrific going on in the home.


Around 7am, the couple's nanny came to the house to resume work only to find the house locked and no one was opening the door. She tried to call her madam but her phone was switched off. She peeped through the window only to find the couple's 6 and 4 year old kids crying and saying they couldn't wake their mum up. By this time, neighbours had also gathered and they forcefully opened the door to find Ronke's lifeless body on the floor, blood gushing from her head.

The husband, Lekan Shonde, was nowhere to be found. Ronke's phone was also missing. He'd locked the kids with their dead mum in the house and took off with her phones.

Her body has since been deposited at the mortuary. She was in her mid-30s.

According to family friends, Ronke suffered domestic violence in her husband's hands for many years but refused to leave the marriage. Sad it took her losing her life for this to end. Quite sad!

Ladies, please say no to domestic violence. Please. No marriage is worth your life!

    Exactly Linda. No marriage is indeed worth your life. Domestic violence should be discarded in all entirety. I don't just get it why men would lay his hands on a woman. She's your helpmate for crying out loud, she's supposed to be cared for and not beaten. If she provokes you, you walk away. We know what women can behave sometimes, but just walk away and do not be provoked to beat her.

    Linda i am sitting on our veranda as i type this.i came out here to get some fresh air.for the past 1hour i have had to turn my head to see where the shouts of agony are coming from.

    Linda, leaving an abusive relationship/marriage isn't just the solution. Use ur platform to draw attention to the Stigmatization and discrimination the Nigerian Society places on Divorced women and Other wemen who wanna opt out of their marriages.

    My friend who recently left her abusive husband is not in good terms with her own mother and sisters Cus she refused to 'manage' the situation and stay married. Worse yet, it was so difficult finding a new accommodation Cus most Landlords don't rent houses to single or divorced ladies. Just sad!

    The Emotional fear of this overrides the logical reasoning of most women. They rather stay, suffer the pains and stife and for their children. They forget no child is happy seeing both parents in a bad marriage.

    U have considerable influence in our society. Pls use it well.

    No marriage is worth dying for. Women, train your girl child to be self sufficient financially and emotionally. Train your boys to mature into men who are emotionally balanced and have respect for women.
    Questions on relationship issues might not have a right or wrong answer, but there are wrong or right actions in relationship.
    A right action is never stay in the same house with a wife or husband who raised their hands on you the first time. If you stay that day you will stay till death. If however you move away that night till their 'eye clear' maybe you will live to tell the tale someday.
    Every reason or excuse becomes foolishness once you are dead.
    Unfortunately the society made up of neighbors, friends, mothers, fathers,brothers, sisters etc are no great help.
    You are warned severally not to bring a third party into your domestic affairs, the same society will ask 'who did she tell?' Neighbors will hear shouts from the next flat and will not go over to find out what the rukus is about. We all wait until it's too late either to save the marriage or the life. Even if the home is charmed, a caring neighbor can help break the spell. But do we care enough?
    In this case, there are no firm eye witnesses who can put the man in the scene and corroborate his presence with time of death. A good lawyer can get him off the hook. Eventually, he will be left with no one pressing charges.
    O ma se O. Ronke you allowed this.

    Until women say no to violence of any sort in their marriages we are likely to keep on reading such tales.
    Any other issue can be managed in marriage but not violence,you stay at your own risk.

    I have also been a victim of this, my ex husband will beat me infront of my 4yrs old daughter and my 3momth old son then, he will even go to our pastor to report me after beating me, everyone keep saying d woman builds her home on a solid rock and all sort, his parent will always come to settle fights 4x in a week.... I almost lost my life and I had to walk away 2yrs after God gave me my own husband dat took me with my kids and am happily married now with a daughter for him.. .. If I had listen to pls advice it's obvious I will be dead by now and a different story will be told to my dear children..... Hmmm Rip range it's late thou... May God keep ur children safe

There are many women out there who beat up their Hubbies on a regular, spill their blood, pour them acids..etc. Of course when we hear such we tend to laugh at the man going through this or term him a "weak" man and forget he is going through an abuse in his marriage. If you are a man or a woman who constantly abuse your partner emotionally or physically please STOP it. If you are a man or woman facing such in your home may God give you the grace to take the right decision that will help/save you. RIP Temitope.

    Before marrying a man,check for his level of emotional and psychological maturity.This is important because immaturity esp emotional immaturity cannot do any marriage any good.When a man cannot handle anger,cannot control his temper and when angry, he boils and becomes violent over trivialities or slight provocations, such a man is not suitable for marriage.In marriage,there are many upsets that require emotional stability and control to handle else immature reactions to the upsets will result to abuses and eventual disintegration of the union.Emotional maturity is a requirement for marriage but many ladies overlook this,focusing on age maturity, physique maturity and financial maturity.If a man is emotionally immature, before marriage you will know if U are diligent in observation but premarital sex is the problem that blinds the ladies from seeing these realities.When they see it, they ignore it because premarital sex which creates a false bond has beclouded their reasoning faculty and makes them think love is blind.A man that will be violent in marriage already has the seed in him,planted in him and can be discovered by a woman who is diligent in observation during the courtship though the man may try to hide this weakness.

    So sad Ronke, may your soul rest in peace.
    I know this beautiful lady from teens and hearing the new I went to her home to confirm the story and behold I saw her corps wrapped in blood.

    A concerned neighbour at the scene blamed the matter on one of Ronke's female friends still working with GTB. That the lady always feeds Ronke's hobby with information on financial transactions in the deceased Bank account. And that 90% of the causes of their quarrel and fighting is centered on money. The murderer ran away with the wifes' ATMs. I hope GTB will deactivate the deceased bank account. Poor lady, she is the bread winner in her home, the illiterate hobby who works as a loader in one of the Oil depot just feasts on her.

    There are so many Ronke(s) sitting on time bombs. My advise to sisters out there is to watch-out for men that feasts on there wives.

    Please let's note here. If you are in a physically abusive relationship please stay out of harms way. We are not talking about divorce. If your house is on fire you run out and from a safe distance try to put it out so is a violent relationship. Stay at a safe distance and pray for deliverance for the violent spouse.
    Also note dear sisters these men are people's brothers and sons and nephews etc. If you know your sister in law or daughter in law is being pummelled you are the best person to put a stop to this . There is also the mental emotional or psychological abuse.to you the runs girls going about breaking homes and causing men to behave badly to their families every drug has expiration date heavy nemesis will soon catch up with you and you will suffer much worse. # ediblecatering
