Oby Ezekwesili faults Buhari's economic policies, describes it as Opaque

Former Minister of Eductaion, Oby Ezekwesili today faulted the economic policies of the Buhari-led administration, saying Buhari, is running the Nigerian economy with policies he used while he was a military leader. Speaking at The Platform, a public forum held in Abuja, Ezekwesili described Buhari's economic policies as Opaque and Archaic.

Premium Times quotes Ezekwesili as saying the policies being implemented is adversely affecting the poor and vulnerable in the society which ought not to be
"During the first coming of this our new president, a command and control economic system was adopted. During that era, inflation spiralled. During that era, jobs were lost. During that era, the economic growth level dipped. That era wasn’t the best of eras in economic progress. What did not work in 1984 cannot possibly be a solution in a global economy that’s much more integrated. In over one year, the president is still holding to the premise that command and control is the only way out. In a year we have lost the single digits inflation status we maintained in past administrations. The president comes into this economic philosophy on the premise that he does not want the poor to suffer. I can relate to that, a leader must not allow the poor to suffer, especially a leader who knows that most of his votes came not from the elite but from the poor. The problem though is that the intention and the outcome are diverged. The weakest and the most vulnerable suffer the impact of inflation the most. Enormous power is being abused as a result of opaque economic policies. Companies are suddenly finding themselves unable to produce because they’re unable to access foreign exchange"she said

  14. This woman is gradually coming back to her senses! We warned you people that a Buhari that could not nurture any successful private business cannot even govern a local government, not to talk of a vast country like Nigeria! All those that said even if he has NEPA bill as certificate they want him, oya make una come hail una sai Buhari! He thinks that governing Nigeria is all about making noises about corruption while other sectors of the economy is dying! First Bank is at the verge of sacking 1000 workers and other organizations will soon follow suit! To make matter worse he keeps surrounding himself and appointing only his kind men on positions they know nothing about!!!

    1. We have graduates, PHD holders, professors, Masters Degree holders, he even had highly educated, professionals as presidential condidates during the last presidential election but we choose to voted an uneducated, fragile old man to lead us with all the complicated issues we have in Nigeria all in the name of party. How do we expect him to achieve anything without knowledge, experience or clue about such issues?
Someone tell me. It's hight time we focus on educated candidates to lead us and not parties. May God give us another chance to make a wise choice and may God also put His very elect to lead us aright in Jesus' name, AMEN.

  24. What she's saying is the absolute truth. Buhari's intention of protecting the poor is the very thing that's making the poor poorer. Let the free market take its course and collect your taxes. God help this govt, because i dont know what they think they are doing.

  28. It is much easier to criticise than to construct, much easier to destroy than to build.if She's truly honest about her comment then she should also tell people that the amount of dollars available to previous administrations when oil was over 100usd per barel is only available at 3 times lower in Buharis administration at 30 usd per barel. Does she expect the govt to print dollars ....if prev administrations saved the excess usd in reserves, the situation would have better just like it is in Kuwait ...

  33. MADAM EZEKWESILI, Whilst I have respected your views with regards to condemning corruption, I am against the attitude of condemning economic policies of Mr. President WITHOUT PROFERRING ANY SOLUTION. IT IS EASY TO SIT ON THE FENCE AND CONDEMN. PLEASE LET US KNOW YOUR ECONOMIC SOLUTIONS TO THE FALLING OIL PRICE IN THE MARKET VIS A VIS THE FALLING VALUE OF THE NAIRA. THE STRENGTH IN THE ECONOMIC POLICY OF MOHAMMED BUHARI IS TO CLOSE DOORS AGAINST BUSINESSES ENCOURAGING IMPORTATION OF JUNK AND OTHER USELESS THINGS INTO THE NIGERIA WHILST PROMOTING PRODUCTION FOR IMPORTS AND SELF SUFFICIENCY IN THINGS WE CONSUME..

  34. The problem with Nigeria is bad leadership. Unfortunately the Nigerian political space is divided along ethnic and religious lines. It is not supposed to be so if we affirm to be one Nigeria. In a situation like this, I think what the President should do is to look out for professionals or technocrats in Nigeria that have better models or ideas to help fix Nigeria fast before its conditions degenerate beyond repairs. Ofcourse he should sack non performing ministers especially those that lack what it takes to steer the ship for the overall well-being of Nigerians.

  35. Everyone just giving their own opinions without giving adequate solution to solve the problem at hand.It might have been stable in the past generation but we had been living on a edge knowing that anytime this same thing will still happen. We've been patching everything up all these years. If these people can see beyond their nose they'll know that these set down policies Buhari is making is for the future. But ofcourse Nigerians love living for the present. So far everything is patched up and things are working halfway they are absolutely comfortable. Let Buhari finish up with the implementation of his profound solution and u can judge him after. At least he knows at the back of his mind that he won't get our votes if he fails after 4 years and someone else with take over. Maybe back to the f**ked up, patched up, PDP party that had ruled us for years, stealing the money made for the country and giving you things to chew on. The youths are the most disappointing..Lots of brilliant chaps with brilliant ideas but will always complain they aren't given the opportunity. How will u get the opportunity when you don't even show you've got something installed for your Country. All everyone does is mind your biz...spend money...club..hide behind the social media..make jokes while the country rottens away.

  36. Oby you are among the people that plaunged us into this Buhari economic mess. when we shouted that Buhari is old you said he should continue. how can a 74 yrs old man like Buhari give you a good economic policy or give fresh idea on how to solve problem

You haven't seen anything yet. all his policies from inception is mischievous. i just hope he doesn't break Nigeria. He should just take a bow and leave office. He is wasting our precious time
The economic policy of Buhari is it not APC economic policy drafted by the party. This shows clearly that APC doesn't have good economic policy for Nigeria

  38. It is really sad some naija can't see beyond their nose. It's so amazing people want 16-year destruction to be fixed in less than a year. Permit me to say the emergence of PMB is nothing but Almighty God's answer to the poor of this nation; and by God's grace, PMB will SUCCEED.
