'No more arms for drunk policemen' - AIG of Police Zone 2

According to Bala Hassan - Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, comprising Lagos and Ogun, to avoid the killing of people through accidental discharges, policemen, who abuse alcohol and drugs, will no longer be given arms.

He made this known yesterday at the Police College, Ikeja during the launch of medical kits for urine drug test, and mass screening for hypertension and diabetes.

Officers found wanting would be rehabilitated before they are entrusted with the duty of protecting lives and properties. “These officers and men need to be very healthy, fit and safe in order to be able to carry out these statutory duties,” he said.

  6. ok let me get this right. A policeman abuses alcohol and drugs and instead booting him out of the force and punishing him accordingly, you woould just take away his gun but have his colleague armed? Shit!

  8. Adonrrit! Do they smell their mouths each day before handing over arms to them? Even if they do, what would stop an officer who is so much carried with the "Drunken master" capability pretend he doesn't need a drink until after having collected his arm?

  19. 75percent of the policemen in nigeria re drunkards, do ur research well and u will see that the amount of people who wont be given guns will be more n ur policemen will have excuse when crime rate is high (not like they were active wit the gun to fight robbers, only to shoot innocent civilians)

  21. I think the more appropriate action is for any officer caught abusing alcohol or taking hard drugs should be dismissed I immediately. obviously such an individual doesn't value their job and their are over 7 00k Nigerians looking to fill that spot.

  25. I didn't read the article but don't they give the officers the guns before they go and get drunk? What do you do to check their attitude to "DRINK" before handing them guns?
