Is a Governor driving himself such a big deal? SSA to the Kogi State Governor thinks so! (photos)

Petra Akinti Onyegbule, the Senior Special Assistant to Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello shared these photos of the Governor driving himself to work praising his humility. To her, it is a pretty big deal? What do you think? See what she wrote after the cut..

"When Obama carries his bag, we oooh and aaaah over photos of him doing so. We say in our clime, an "ordinary councillor" doesn't. That elected officials in Nigeria hardly do anything themselves. But then, I saw my Governor drive himself and his chief of staff and thought "aha! The existing narrative is not true." Our Governor certainly doesn't have the master mentality. He sees himself as a leader, into whose hands power has been entrusted to better the collective lives of Kogites. Governor Yahaya Bello is a special breed. Some of us know this already. With time, y'all will see this is no packaging. And that he's the real deal! Erm, bad belle people won't be able to resist asking "what's the big deal?" grin emoticon You sure it isn't?"

  12. Gov ibikunle amosun of Ogun state drives his mercedes benz G wagon by himself. He basically even moves around without a convoy, Jst a patrol vehicle following his G wagon. It's commendable but it's not a big deal

  22. Why can't i stop thinking about pastor Suleiman's prophesy concerning Kogi state governor?

Is he driving himself because he's scared on an "accident"?

Sir, we are praying to avert whatever obstacles are sent your way.

While driving, don't forget to obey traffic lights and stop at a zebra crossing for pedestrians.

  23. Some governors drive themselves because they have trust issues, they think someone is out to kill them and don't trust a driver not to be one of those people, enugu former governor chimaroke used to do same

  30. I still don't understand why the governor is being accorded a 'special breed' status because he drives himself. Let him drive the car he bought with his own money, let him reduce his salary, let him turn around Kogi state for good then we can think of giving him a special status.

  31. Linda wot do u think? Ofcos a big deal, how many guvnors hav u seen doin dat?

  32. Idiots! What's the big deal? A certain Ngige and Rotimi Amaechi did same as governors, even Sam Egwu of Ebonyi state was always spotted boarding a motorcycle (Okada).

  33. Mr SSA let me tell u why the governor is driving himself because he doesn't trust Kogi people. Let look at it this way in the last two month strong things have happened in kogi true or false. So don't politicize it because he will soon be unseat.

  47. There is no big deal, instead a major Security risk.... There is a reason why DSS has specially appointed well trained drivers for very important and highly placed Principals. You don't see foreign leaders drive themselves not because they can not driver but for safety and protection they don't. So it is not in any way a big deal or a deal at all.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Don't be deceived, he had just sent his driver to go and apply for driver's license and see if truly he would pass to get one. Lesson learnt.

  50. That's humility, and it's a key factor in development. It means a lot. Shows he's not working alone but with his team and everyone is being carried along. How many Nigerian leaders can do that ? #AnewDawnKogiState.

  63. Its not a big deal, But most Nigerian leader would not do that, thats it. If Obama carries his bag he will be praised n compared to Nigerian leaders meaning Nigerian leaders have pride.Buts haes only trying to say his different n humble, thats all.

  64. l honestly think there is either an 'Ego' Problem or probably there's something between Linda and Comrade Petra which they are not telling us...U know Lady's Wahala!!!!!Because for me, l don't see any issue on Petra's Post, Its just to show how humble the Governor was, especially in the Africa Continent.
But Then,l also think its not safe, security wise: especially Going by the circumstances that led to AYB's emergence as Kogi Governor. Anyway, The Governor should Continue his work and make us Proud because l am highly optimistic that AYB will not in anyway disappoint Kogites.

  65. May this SSA receive wisdom IJN. This post shows how naive she is. I hope she is not one of the beat brains from Kogi

  76. He is driving a 30m naira car to work by himself, who wouldn't want to drive himself in such a luxury car? He should drive a 2007 camry to work by himself, then we will know he is down to earth.

    ReplyDelete
  77. It is a big deal! For one, it is a security risk. The security detail should have refused the offer the Governor drive himself to work. I assume the Security detail are posted there by DSS. A formal complaint should be made to their department. It should not happen again. That Governor is their responsibility. Their lives are in DANGER too. They should put their foot down.
