Photos: Pure water sellers protest over hike in price in Edo

Women who sell sachet water popularly known as Pure water, staged a protest in Benin city, Edo state yesterday February 25th, over the hike in price of the product. Some of them say they now buy a bag of pure water for N 400 and are forced to sell it at N20 as against the N5 they sold it before. And people are no longer patronizing them like they used to...

    1. Well, if you really think about, the raw materials put in creating the packing for pure water is imported. The people that produce pure water don't sell the water. The profit made comes from the packing.

  12. That's the problem of we nigerians,,, we take advantage of any slightest opportunity to inflate goods... Bcos of d rise in dollar, even the price of goods produced in nigeria will also inflate.. The other day I wanted buying 5mango fruits(common mango) and the woman selling said N400 and when I exclaimed she said don't I know that dollar is expensive? So my fellow libers, how come dollar take affect our local mango?

  24. I was beginning to wonder what concerns dollars and pure water or other goods that prices got inflated, it's now like Nigeria whole economy is dollars dependent, to me its simply greed on these sellers part and not "multiplier" effect as most economists will claim! Even chewing gum is now #10!!!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hehehe!! Onyx I knw say u go sabi the price of chewing gum for market nau.. faggyyyy!!!!#buhari for onyx sake abeg make the price of chewing gum come back to 50k#

      Delete
    2. What are u saying Onyx? Most of the items(Chemicals) used in processing the pure water sachet are being imported. Even the water treating agents. Now since PMB stopped the importation of so many things which I don't know if he also stopped those chemicals, the producers in Nigeria turned greedy. Hiking the prices of so many items. So they should continue to protest. Our regulatory bodies should look into it.

  32. Nigerians are so ignorant about the happenings in their environment. You call Sachet Water "common pure water" yet you can't do without water. I will advice that you do your research before you judge. The price of water can and won't increase now or never. After all water is explored from the ground just like every other natural resource(s). Like we all know, our economy is highly dependent on importation. 80% of materials are imported which includes the substance or raw material used in producing the nylons. The ripple effect of the incessant increase in dollar and also the non availability of this same dollar, the companies that produce these nylons are forced to inflate their prices as the cost of dollar to Naira also increases. Water itself is the constant factor but the materials and other cost of production has resulted to the need to increase of the so called "pure water". If all pure Water factories decide to close down trust me, a major populace of Nigerians will not last without water except they result to boiling water with gas or stove. Welcome to our world.
