Obiechina Okete's side of the story

About a week ago, I brought you a report about a Nigerian man named Obiechina Okete who was jailed for 16 years in the UK after being found guilty of two counts of rape (Read here). Two separate women accused him of rape but his family insists they are liars and he never raped them. Below is an official statement they released...

Obiechina Okete was born in Nigeria. He is well loved by his family and friends. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. After a few successful years as a banker in Nigeria, he traveled to the United Kingdom to further his education. While he was there, he attained two Master’s Degrees. He eventually started a family in the United Kingdom. He and his wife were blessed with a beautiful baby girl who is now three years old. The couple eventually separated, however Obiechina adores his daughter and wants nothing more than to be there for her as she grows up.

 

In 2015, Obiechina was charged with two counts of rape. The trial was between the 19^th-28^th of October, 2015. After the trial, he was convicted without evidence and sentenced to 16 years in prison. The Thames Valley Police (Reading, U.K) claim they accidentally erased the CCTV evidence that could have helped to prove Obiechina’s innocence. Also, they did not follow full protocol and procedure to obtain evidence from a person/persons who claim they have been raped, i.e. photos and the use of a sexual assault evidence kit. Would this be an easy way for them to unjustly put another black man in jail?  

 

People may ask, why did he not run away to his birth country before the trial? The answer is that he naively believed in the justice and judicial system. He believed he was going to receive a fair trial and did not want to abandon his beloved daughter.

1^st COMPLAINANT

The 1st complainant Shameela Patel refused forensic examination and didn't have photos taken showing the supposed bruises on her body from the alleged rape.

 

The truth is that Shameela Patel is a married woman who went on a night out and got drunk. She had to be brought back to her hotel by two male colleagues and escorted to her hotel room.  She later came down to the hotel lobby half-naked. Hotel security was called to escort her back to her room. Obiechina happened to be the on-duty security officer. She made sexual advances towards him, but he declined. He stated that he was on duty. She then proceeded to give him her full name and phone number. She asked him to contact her on Facebook and he agreed.

 

She wakes up in the morning and goes home to her husband. She has no recollection of her shameful behavior the previous night. When she gets a Facebook invite from the accused, she claims she saw a photo of his face and quickly declined the request.

Guess what? His profile picture has a photo of someone's athletic torso and not his face!

 

What game is this "good housewife" playing? Perhaps she had an orgy with her work colleagues? Or perhaps she is too ashamed that she was witnessed making a fool of herself? Shameela Patel, why would you want to ruin a good man’s life?

 

Why did she refuse to be examined by the police, or a healthcare professional for evidence? Why did she not inform her husband that she was raped?

 

Dear husband, wouldn’t you want to know if your wife is ruining a man’s life? Wouldn’t you want to know if your wife is robbing a little girl of her father? And just to cover her tracks! Why did she want to speak with her two work colleagues before the police interviewed them? What are they concealing?

 

The CCTV footage in the hotel lobby showing how long Obiechina was away from the area mysteriously went missing in police possession!  How convenient for the amazing Thames Valley Police (Reading, UK) or more like, the gang trying to frame a young innocent black man.

 

His crime? He's black. Of course he must have raped her because he's black, and she said so? She has no account of anything that happened that night, but claims she can remember a black man who is bald, with a big nose, and in his mid-forties raped her. Let’s look at Obiechina's photo; he has a full head of hair on his scalp, his nose isn't big, and he looks like he's in his twenties!

 

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Of course she made it all up. She's ashamed and wants some distraction from her despicable behavior. On her night out, she got too drunk. She was brought back to the hotel by her two male colleagues. She fell several times outside, as well as in the hotel lobby. She had to be carried up to her room. Is she perhaps having a visual hallucination due to her alcohol intoxication or is she trying to cover up a wild night with her colleagues?

 

 

2^ND COMPLAINANT

Now Olivia Wypior, the 2nd complainant has a German exam the next day. She calls Obiechina on his phone, "where's your place again? I want to come by." She comes to his flat with alcohol and asks him to go with her to buy some mixers. He asks if she should be drinking a night before her exam? She says she's looking for a reason not to sit for the exam. He escorts her to get mixers. When they come back to his place, she makes an alcoholic drink for herself and he makes one for himself. They are talking and laughing, they're having fun. She tells him that her boyfriend is no longer interested in having sex with her anymore.

 

He starts teasing her breasts, she didn't stop him. He takes her bra off, she let him. She gets on top of him after she exclaims at his size. He asks if they should use a condom? Olivia Wypior says no because she has PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) and can't get pregnant.

 

Within moments, they start having sex. Then she says "I can't believe I'm cheating on Tim." End of sex! She wants to go home and he walks her home. They are seen on CCTV holding hands as they walk down the street.

 

In the morning she goes to the police to cry rape. “I was drunk,” she said.

 

She went there with the sole purpose of having sex. They had consensual sex. Her flat mates unfortunately saw her come home late at night with another man, not Tim. Of course she had to make up a story they could believe!

 

Again, I pose the same question to Tim, wouldn’t you want to know the truth? Wouldn’t you want to know if your girlfriend is ruining a man’s life and robbing a little girl of her father?

 

She claims she was "crying hysterically." No residents at 11 Addington Road were interviewed to collaborate her story. She claims he walked her home but she walked ahead of him; however, CCTV footage shows them walking hand in hand.

 

She also claims she was unusually drunk for the amount of alcohol she had. Yet, a video on her housemate’s phone shows her being well coordinated and articulate, joggling an object between two hands. This video was taken on the same night after she returned from Obiechina’s house.

 

Olivia Wypior please tell the truth. What did you go to do a night before your exam? He didn't come to your house. You went to his house with alcohol.  Why did you go to drink alcohol a night before an important university exam with a man that is not your boyfriend? We are adults and know what that means. This lady is obviously a blatant liar. 

 

As for Hennessy and Hammudi Solicitors, the incompetent team of solicitors that represented Obiechina. Don't you ever use them, if you know what is good for you.

 

Please help plead for a fair trial for Obiechina Okete. His daughter deserves to have her father as she is growing up. He is not deserving of the maximum sentence for a case without real evidence to prove any wrong doing.

 

Where is the hotel’s CCTV video showing how briefly Obiechina was away from the lobby to return Shameela Patel to her room? How did it become missing in police custody?

 

Why did Shameela Patel refuse medical examination for DNA to prove rape?

 

Where are the pictures of Shameela Patel's alleged bruises?

 

Where are the neighbors that saw Olivia Wypior "crying hysterically"?

 

Why would Oliva hold hands with the accused (as CCTV shows) if she had just been raped?

 

Olivia Wypior would you deny you have PCOS? Since you were so comfortable telling Obiechina you have PCOS and explaining why you can't get pregnant, then it was definitely consensual sex!

 

Obiechina Okete was wrongfully convicted of rape crime and received an unfair trial.

This is clearly a case of malicious injustice against an innocent black man.  There was gross abuse of process at every step of this case; from the investigating officers who destroyed crucial evidence, to the biased judge who presided over the case.

 

Shameela Patel and Olivia Wypior please tell the truth. Don’t ruin an innocent man’s life to save your relationships. Black men are human beings who have lives, and families. They are not toys to be used as excuses for your regretful actions.
