Sharia court in Kano sentences Imam to death for blasphemous statement against Prophet Muhammad

A Kano-based Sharia court has sentenced an Imam, Abdul Niasse, to death for blaspheming Islam's holiest figure, Prophet Muhammad. According to the prosecutor Lamido Abba Soron-Dinki who spoke with AFP, Niasse was sentenced at a secret trial to "avoid a repeat of the mob action" seen at a previous hearing of the court.

Niasse caused public outrage in May when he allegedly made derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad to followers as they marked the birthday of the former leader of the Muslim Tijaniyya Sufi order, Ibrahim Niasse.

He was arrested in Abuja in August where he was in hiding and was brought back to Kano for his trial "He has up to a month to appeal the sentence and it is most likely he is going for appeal," Soron-Dinki added

      Yes, Nigeria is a secular state. However, in the north, for states that have implemented sharia, Muslims within those states are strictly bound by sharia law.

      However, sharia law doesn't affect people of other religions. So I guess he signed on for it by being a muslim.

    The court and its jury should ask themselves "Is this what Prophet Muhammad SAW would have done" they claim to know the life of the holy prophet so much but they have misinterpreted many of his teachings... The prophet wouldn't even sentence a person to death for trying to kill him, so u can speak less of blasphemy. This people live in their own cruel world instead of following the teachings of the holy prophet. So pls judge the religion less and judge people more...

Just because someone said something about someone that is dead contrary to the opinion of the sharia court it is blasphemous. What happened to leaving God to judge. What gives anyone the right over another's life when they can't even create one. The world is gone. Love is so lost. People using all sorts of things to exert power over others. The Bible, Quran and other books. Knowing good and evil in your hearts isn't good enough for people anymore, they want a book that directs their affairs. Religion has become a social, political and power exerting force just to control the affairs of a fellow human. Smh.
