Jason Derulo comes under fire after asking South Africans if they can speak English

Jason Derulo was the headline performer at the ANN7 South African of the Year Awards which held last night in Johannesburg and during his performance he asked the crowd "Y'all speak English, right?". Lol. South Africans of course dragged him on social media, forcing him to clarify what he meant (tweet above). See some tweets after the cut...

  31. Come on people calm down...it was a rhetorical question...in many language around the globe, people do ask that if they don't get the needed attention or respond.

  32. Even if he said they can't speak English, they shouldn't be mad na. Most of them speak with heavy accents, so much that it's hard to put what they're saying together. Stupid Xenophobic mofos.

  36. Africans can over react, English is just a language, if you are been asked whether u speak it or not, don't be offended. English is our other language, we have our own language which we speak, this is just a question. Asking you if you speak English is not like asking if you've shower in a week.

  37. Some African pipl r just naughty, dey wud ve asked him if he can speak dier own language, i dnt see any reason to drag him, dragging him posits dat, speaking English to dem is a sign of value, ewww absolute stupidity, I wish we were never taught English, dis English tin is borrowed, is not ours, tis stupid to want to protect it, all of dem nid slap

    1. Amaka there must be a universal rallying language in the present world and that language is English so we must all learn how to speak it, write it and read it. Or should we go to Namibia and speak Ibo to them? Food 4 thot

  39. He comes from Haiti which is worse than South Africa; Haiti is a country cursed by events with bad soil and he dared to ask if South Africans can speak English. He is a fool, lost in USA.
