President Buhari appoints self as Petroleum Minister

President Buhari while addressing some select reporters in New York on Tuesday, after addressing a Global Leaders’ Summit on Countering ISIL and Violent Extremism, he will remain the Minister of Petroleum.
He said the step is being taken as part of efforts to sanitise Nigeria’s oil industry which is said to be plagued by corruption, massive fraud, and crude oil theft.

He said:
“I will remain Minister of Petroleum.
“I will appoint a minister of State for Petroleum”.

Buhari restated his determination to sanitise Nigeria’s oil industry and free it from corruption and create more transparency.
He said that his first step in sanitizing the petroleum sector has already begun with the appointment of a new management for the NNPC and said that the prosecution of those who misappropriated NNPC’s funds is already in the works.

Buhari, who took office at the end of May promising to fight corruption, has made it clear he wants to overhaul the oil sector in Africa’s biggest economy, which provides the government with about 70% of its revenue.

Lmao... I like his style, he's hiding his own corrupt practice in d open. for the shallow minded, it means any proceeds from petroleum won't be reported to anyone, for further explanation he will only be accountable to himself. What he tells us, is WHAT we must take. I'm sure the moronic supporters of this blind party will still agree with this path of deception embarked on by "their" president..

I know some people would feel he's tryna be a dictator but believe you me its far from the point. The minister of state will consult him on petroleum matters ,that's what it means. It's look he's gonna be calling himself minister or Occupying the office. It's the best thing in progress. Nigerians will see

the president who manage UNGA TRIP ON HIS OLD AGE wants to still be the petroleum minister in a sector like defense that needs full representation. why did he appoint GM FOR NNPC AT THE FIRST INSTANCE?. NO BODY IS BUYING OUR OIL NOW, BECOUSE OF OUR UNEASY POLICIES FROM HIM COMPARED TO OTHER COUNTRIES. IS HE ALSO SAYING JUST AS HE WAS APPOINTED THE MINISTER PETROLEUM BY OTHER REGIME THAT THERE IS NO MAN/WOMAN OUT OF 170MILLION CAPABLE OF MANAGING THE SECTOR? #OnlyInNigeria you see this kind of rascal attitude in government!!!!!

Jayayoe said...

You all can say whatever you want but if he is really serious about this, I think it's the best decision. It's just painful that most of us do not know the source of our problems..we only try ti cure/solve the effects of it. It is an open secret that up to 98% of our wealth comes from petroleum and only a prudent and transparent overseeing will amount to effective operations in that sector. The president trusts no one 100% at this point and feels He's the only one that is driven for anticurruption practices. So if he puts himself there..so be it!!.Are we interested in effective productivity or are we concerned about sharing posts to people just in the name of sharing?!! wake up people..you want change..this is change so get used to it!!!

We already know that's what he'll do, all his mind is in the petroleum sector. He should not forget there's also money in the agricultural sector, & agriculture needs boosting. Buhari is not transparent & can't be, he has his own agenda, let's see how he is going to sanitise Nigeria...very partial man & hateful man! Just like Okorocha....

Good to know...if possible He should also appoint Himself as Minister of power and finance...since they are the most important and corrupt sector in Nigeria.

Unknown said...

tnk God for that, i really welcome that idea. the less privilege will benefit form this administration.......

Nigerians, Apc, trusted and voted for this ma, Now he has no trust for anyone.
Buhari the tribalistic Hausa Goat.

Anonymous said...

So its true that Buhari does not have regard for his citizens. how is it that he makes announcement outside? like we're always the second to know. What is wrong with him telling Nigerians first about his plan? Let me look well again, maybe i'm missing something

Unknown said...

This is d change we re talking about first in history of naija one man serving two powerful offices.president and petroleum minister.APC change!!!!!!

Get ur facts right olodo.
Obasanjo wan minister for petroleum ND it is not unconstitutional

Youth Watch Nigeria said...

It's a welcome development! He is experienced. Obasanjo did the same thing so there's no need whipping up sentiments.
We need to sanitise the petroleum industry even though we are looking to diversify the economy. Because like it or not that's our major source of income generation right now as a nation.

Now let's get to work

Greg said...

Nigeria needs a different form of solution than what people are thinking.
If India could become among the technology developed country, india leading in technology, Nigeria can be better if a different approach is imployed than president being the minister of petroleum instead of heading TECHNOLOGY INCUBATION to help our economy.

Anonymous said...

Hmmmm experience ko! Where is the leadership on delegation and management?
At this rate Buhari will be routing oil to the North to support future muslim domination.

Anonymous said...

We shuld get sanitised first before considering other sectors.welcomed idea,i second.

Hmmmmmm still observing. Lips sealed.
