This is what is known as the Ojude Oba festival which holds on the third day after the Eid El Kabir celebrations.
This year was no different and Eagle Aromatic Schnapps, from the stable of Intercontinental Distillers Limited, a brand at the fore front of promoting tradition, supported the event.
As a build up to the event, the brand paid
a courtesy visit to the Oba, HRH Sikiru
Kayode Adetona to felicitate with him and receive royal blessings. The Oba noted
that the company, Intercontinental Distillers Limited a past chairman, Chief
Ogunbanjo of blessed memory was an Ijebu man. He said any business an Ijebu man
did, he would do excellently. He
enjoined the brand to continue to promote tradition.
The Ojude Oba Festival was graced by notable personalities like Gov.
Seriake Dickson, Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Daisy Danjuma, Deputy Gov. of Ogun State, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga , Former Gov. Gbenga Daniel , Popular
Industrialist Chief Okoya Thomas and was filled with resplendent displays from the various Regbe Regbes (ie groups)as
well as warrior families who thrilled the crowds with horse riding displays.
At the event, the brand identified with the
Bobagunte Regbe Regbe which has notable Ijebus like Iyalode Alatishe and popular
fuji musician Salawa Abeni as members.

Cultural Nigeria today, it is the gathering of people who come together yearly
to celebrate the culture and tell their story to the world the way it should be

Oba together extols the essence of culture and gives the people a sense of
belonging while latching on to tradition of yester years. He enjoined the coming generation to preserve
culture and tradition by holding on to this platform.
The Brand gave out free gifts to visitors
at the festival; the visitors enjoyed free sampling at the Eagle schnapps stand….

ReplyDeleteGosh i miss ijebu-odes ojude oba. Never used to miss it as a kid. D women dressed as men on horse back. The competition btw d families in front of d oba (awujale). The rows of tents at all d families afterparties. So bloodyyy fun! I miss home.
