Buhari denies accusing U.S. Government of aiding Boko Haram

Statement from the presidency below...
Persisting claims in  the local and international media that President Buhari has accused or indicted the United States Government of helping the terrorist group, Boko Haram are untrue and widely off mark.
Reports to that effect are an unfortunate misinterpretation and distortion of the President’s remarks at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) during his highly successful official visit to Washington DC.
Indeed, President Buhari made it abundantly clear in those remarks, copies of which were circulated to the media, that he was convinced that the United States could never support groups such as Boko Haram.
“I know the American people cannot support any group engaged in these crimes,” the President clearly stated.

The regrets expressed by President Buhari at USIP about the impact of the application of the Leahy Law on Nigeria’s war against  Boko Haram and terrorism cannot be construed as an indictment of President Barack Obama and the United States Government who have publicly and privately declared their preparedness to give the Buhari Administration the fullest possible support and assistance.
Within the context in which they were made, President Buhari’s comments on the adverse effect of the Leahy Law on Nigeria’s efforts to contain Boko Haram’s atrocious acts of terrorism should only be taken as a passionate appeal for even greater understanding and support from a very powerful and longstanding ally.

President Buhari has nothing but the highest possible regard for President Obama, the United States Government, the people of the United States, their laws and institutions.
The President had very successful and useful talks with President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry, other high-ranking US government officials and members of United States Congress during his visit to Washington DC.

It is his expectation that those talks will lead to better mutual understanding and a further deepening of bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United States, especially in Nigeria’s current priority areas of  defence and security cooperation.

    6. Prisca Ginika, PMB, can not be afraid of US, in my own view I believe those talk was not from PMB, it was from those enemies of Nigeria that wanted US to hate PMB, als for US not to give help to FG of Nigeria.

    7. I dey laugh. When I read the statement credited to him I was like' this guy doesn't know the implication of such utterance. You are the president of the most powerful black nation, watch your utterances. This is not Nigeria where our leader make careless and inflammatory statements and no one really cares. The pressure on our naira is because of some of PMB and APC's utterances. Be careful guys.

  27. Whats the difference? what is good for the goose plays out again. Release counter statements as you want, you will always get backlashes until you become a man of your words! The problem i see is the youths of Nigeria, with the kind of hate interwoven in their DNA,one can see that at old age when they lead Nigeria (The only country children are not the leaders of tomorrow) that's if they ever do, the hate campaign will continue.

  28. Culled from James Gunn, thisday comment:
Jonathan Goodluck was tagged clueless. He surrounded himself with the best and capable hands he could find. This is a rundown of some of the capable hands and their current positions after government.

Diezani Allison Maduekwe: Former Petroleum Minister ---now---President of OPEC.

Akin Adesina: Former Agriculture Minister ---now---President of the African Development Bank.

Arunma Otteh: Former Director General SEC ---now---Vice President and Treasurer of the World Bank.

It is not a coincidence that they have been appointed or voted into this positions. I am waiting to hear Ngozi Okonjo Iweala's new appointment. Not all were saints, some were certainly corrupt but some were brilliant minds who worked assiduously for this country. He left Obama and his double speak and went to Putin. Putin went as far as instructing a Russian bank to lend us the money for arms purchases. Buhari needs to swallow his pride and call Jonathan for advice. He was not the best president but he was better than all those that preceded him. Buhari will NOT make any headway in this war against Boko haram. The only idea he thought he could bring in was moving the command and control of the military to Borno State. Totally unnecessary. In this age of internet, fibreoptics and broadband, advanced telecommunications, satelites and drones your military command does NOT have to move to an Area of Operations. Afterall an aircraft carrier (as formidable as an entire army battalion ) can anchor in the atlantic ocean and lay siege to a country. America did not move its Pentagon Command and Control to Iraq and Afghanistan. All the years of criticizing Jonathan, that was the only strategy he could think of. The trips to Chad and Cameroun are in continuance of what Jonathan had already started. I remember the furore over the plane found with millions of dollars going to buy arms from the black market in South Africa. They said it was corruption and embezzlement. This man was making the most of a crazy situation but he was called all sorts of names. Now Buhari has got the first taste of an international diplomatic upper cut. Since he announced that the G8 said he should bring his shopping list, this is almost 2 months. No new military pacts, alliances or training packages have been announced. I weep for Nigeria. The next 4 years are going to be filled with perpetual backward motion.
